Great Program
Turbo Tax is one of the best products out there for Canadian Tax; unfortunately, customer service leaves a lot to be desired. Basically, Intuit dominates the market and doesn't care about their customers. For example, in 2018 files would not save after an update and the same thing in 2019 and no indication if 2019 is fixed or not. Took a week of constant calling to get a temporary fix for 2019 because Intuit never follows up on issues

Mostly very useful
I used Turbo Tax 20 for many years. They used to make it very easy to telephone connect to support, but that is now very difficult. Intuit should bring this service back.
Otherwise, their "Easy Step" system makes it easy to do the return.
Sometimes, switching to the "forms" and back is very useful, although the forms are very small and hard to read.
The "help" windows do explain the topics when needed, but tend to be a bit short and not fully explanatory.
The system is good, and user-friendly, unless a problem comes up - that is when the direct phone connection would be so helpful.
I do NOT find the "help" forums very helpful at all - they usually are on a subject different from the problem I am researching.

Easy to Use
I've been using TurboTax for years, and always found it easy to use, but I do have an accounting background. My son used the on-line version last year and also found it easy to use -- his is a simple return with only a few T-slips, but he doesn't have any tax or accounting background.

A problem this year
The TurboTax 2018 has a problem with shutting down when finished this year!! It won't back out of the program, you have to just close it!!

I find it interesting that you cannot copy and paste information within the software. I entered over 30 medical receipts and could not copy the name of the patient, the name of the service provider, or even the description of the expense.

pros and cons
Overall the program is good, although a little slow when using the easy step process.
The one area that needs improvment is when filling in forms that have multiple entries, such as T5 and donations. - If a user has more then three entries, in order to view the entire list you are force to scroll through. The system does not allow a dump to a spreadsheet or full print off for checking purposes.
Also, when filling in the information using the Forms method, T-Sheet input into T5, T3 or donations requires a save and exit in order for the information to update the Graphical tax summary. The is no means to Save and keep working.
In the graphical tax summary available when working in the Forms method, the system does not provide combined totals whereas in the Easystep process the combined tax owing/refund is always provided. The user is forced to add the total owing; therefore, I recommend adding total balance to the Refund/Balance dashboard.

Would like to be able to check off amounts with a check mark during review process.
Also I needed to speak to someone re an issue I had with the program. It was very difficult to find a phone number for someone I could talk to. I finally found a number and left a voice mail for someone to call me back but they never did. I think you need better access to your support people. I have been using Turbo Tax for about 6 years now. I am a retired C.A.

Simple to use
Turbo Tax has a good UI and easy to see. I just wish that it was easier to turn off some of the "tips" at the end, because they don't go away (unlike the warnings, you can't clear them).
Also at the very end, it would be nice if there was an option to say "I'm already paperless" instead of having to choose "I don't want to go paperless". It should be similar to the "I don't want direct deposit or my info hasn't changed".

issues
There are a few issues with the program, like entering a T5008 - I had to do it on the forms because the not all the boxes pop up on the screen to fill in. Then when you are done the return and want to do another, it used to take you to the home screen, now it just rotates around the last 3 screens.

REVIEW PROGRAM

One helpful suggestion
One great help would be in the medical expense receipts is as follows:
There are many expenses for the same person such as drugs, vision, dental, meals, travel (km) accommodations etc. It would be so much faster if you could copy and paste the information from one column to several column instead of retyping the same info over and over. Now it's a pain in the butt. Otherwise, it's a great program. Being using it since it inception.

most glitches ever
I have been using TURBOTAX for 18 years and have never encountered more problems as I have this year. First the program wouldn't download properly and I was on the phone for 1.5 hours to correct the problem. Second: too much advertising. Third: when trying to start a new return, popups saying previous return has been modified do you want to save. I click no or cancel or yes, whatever, and it keeps popping up and wont let me start a new return unless I go into file and click on new. I do like buying online however and hope it is more user friendly next year.
POINTER: a small box on right hand corner that tells you how many returns you have left would be a nice feature.

Good purchase
Very easy to use. Until the last update which goes round and round with advertisements I was 100 % satisfied. The latest update messes up the smooth process and makes you stop to review and figure out how to print the return to mail. Not impressed with the inserted advertisements. My level of satisfaction has dropped to 85%.

Good tool, but difficult to fine-tune
The EasySteps procedure works well, and there are useful functions like the RRSP optimizer. The calculations have always been accurate for me.
However, the following areas could be improved:
- The software does not use RFC 8601 date formatting.
- Making manual adjustments in form view often requires endless mouse-clicking and convoluted non-WYSIWYG dialog windows.
- Every time we've imported a prior year return, all of the carryforward information is absent and must be rekeyed.
- The different segments of the EasySteps process causes the navigation to be fairly cluttered, with multiple different pages doing different things for the same credits.
