lousy
could not find a place to enter the Search and Rescue tax credit.
Want to mail it but see there is a version for mailing to CRA but no clue how to find that version
Will never buy this product again
the "help" was useless I wanted to connect with a live Turbo Tax person. maybe that could have helped.

I was tripped up with Tax Installments paid
The info for tax paid was counted twice so CRA will have to fix my booboo
I could not get the input panels to use a larger font (I had to use a magnifying glass to read the numbers)

Final Printouts are NOT CRA style
Did not know the "pdfs" and paper prints would NOT be in CRA final format. (It assumes one will file by Netfile...). Original TurboTax from years ago had final forms.

Do not buy the basic
Much less user-friendly than the other versions. This is a perfect example of getting what you pay for.
Unable to zoom on form and the tooltip help boxes are not helpful.

Seems Slipshod
No optimization of income splitting nearly cost me money. Had to do it myself by trying a dozen different amounts. It also took me to complex forms and left me there, gasping like a fish out of water; so not enough guidance, when using the guided method. It didn't mention or remind me about transfered tuition, had to dig to find it. Not nearly as easy this year. Probably cost me more than the price.

Navigating from section to section is tedious! Not sure what the issue is? Me or program? I assume me unless you can tell me otherwnise.
Also, ear the beginning an error message appeared and would not go away; each keypunch required at least 1 to 2 extra to continue through the error message.

could be better for students
I am a student for the 2017 tax year and I bought the basic turbotax because it was the cheapest and I did get what I paid for. It should have a button to direct you with more information if you are a student. For example I was self inputting my information and then turbotax froze so I closed it on my second attempt I let it input the info itself and my refund was dramatically different. The reason being is that I was inputting the grant from Canada student loans in the lump sum space when it was supposed to be entered somewhere else. Had I inputted it myself I would have shorted myself about $500. Perhaps a student version that offers one or two returns but offers all the forms that come with the standard services I was offered throughout my return.

If you realize you made a mistake after it has been efiled you can revise it but you can't refile it.
There is no provision for efiling an update.

Detailed Quebec summary no longer available
I've used Turbo tax for many years but I was very disappointed in 2017 version. It's not as easy to follow as previous years and it no longer gives you a detailed Quebec tax summary.

2017 Return
I am not pleased with the changes to Turbo Tax Basic for the 2017 returns. After putting in the personal information the program continued to ask for input on areas that were not relevant. Certain information was difficult to find (where to enter the amount of taxes paid on personal property). I have used the program for years, but will be checking other programs for future use to see if they are more user friendly.

font way too small
overall the software is worth it, but when forms popup within the software, the font is extremely small and there is no way to increase it. very very difficult to read.

I kept getting an error message that I could not get rid of and had to click on it every 20 seconds or so to get rid of it . I did 4 income tax returns and screwed one up and have to call CRA to cancel it . This year was a frustrating experience.

Good value
Good value if you want to have a copy on CD. However, with easy step, this basic version does not allow the RRSP or medical expenses info being entered directly but recommend the standard version. You need to go to the specific form to enter this info....defeat the purpose of easy steps... hence not 5 stars

More difficult to use
I have used TurboTax for at least 15 years and this year it was the most difficult to navigate through. It asked for Country Code and I could not find one for Canada on CRA site. It would not let me progress until I entered code. Second tried to change Direct Deposit Info. Took me 20 minutes just to find where to do it. Tried search feature. Didn't Work.

needs improvement
Program works well but the filing with CEA is a bit cumbersome. Last year (2016) I received a note "Netfile confirmation" with a confirmation number. Not so far this year.

Can't use Firefox

Small Bugs Holding Up Whole Process

Not the best
For a basic tax return, I found this version a little difficult to use. Information was difficult to go back and make changes to, without clear explanations. On some auto filled options, you are supposed to be able to double click the result and be taken to where the info was generated, This did not work.
And the constant upselling attempts for a basic return were more than a little annoying. It was annoying to the point that I will probably try a different product next year.
