Frustrated with Basic
I am used to buying the "no frills" version which used to be Standard. The version I purchased this time was Basic. It kept telling me that I should purchase Standard or Business even though I don't have anything too unusual. I didn't think much of the "upsell." I ended up just going through the "Forms" method and managed to make my way through prepping taxes for myself, my wife and three adult children, two of whom are students.

Change from past
This is not as easy as in past years to navigat e. The terminology would be great for accountants but not the average Joe. IE medical deductions terms could be a little clearer. The "look ups" for questions were complicated and were not close to my question. It shouldn't take 2 days to do my taxes!

cant net file
why having direct deposit at the bank Turbo tax will not allow me to send in No amount of phone calls can i find out how to over ride I paid in faith to have my income tax sent in yet now have had to send in a paper copy plus postage

Why
Things were OK until I attempted to netfile, the ALL HECK BROKE LOOSE, and the CRA website refused to accept the file as something did not match their records. I had previously corrected my date of birth which had 2 digits transposed.

Basic is the really Basic
If you used Standard before and decided to save few bucks and purchased Basic, you are going to be disappointed. It is not as interactive as Standard. If you need to add information it presents the CRA form to fill in yourself vice presenting a step by step pop up. I do not recommend Basic to anyone but do recommend Standard and more advanced software from Turbo Tax.

problem last year same this year
Last year the system would not allow me to enter digital subscriptions and help was no help. Assumed it would get fixed this year as it was a problem for many. No such luck, I will look at other options next year. LOL lets see if If Inuit reaches out to me as I was unable to contact them.

Turbo Tax Basic was very easy to use once I got online after about 6 hours trying (yesterday and today) but it would not let me file for 2021 so I filed my 2021 return on the 2019 form. I tried many times to request live help but that didn't work.

2020 return was easy
I used 2020 and everything went smooth, this year i ran into difficulties with my spouse information, cant find the answer no where, will have to end up paying the expert help. There needs to be better information or samples to find answers.

I shall give TurboTax a second chance. This year was a nightmare. Next year be ready for people to file on the first day. Other software packages did not have the same major issues as TurboTax. I did not appreciate the blame game. Own your own shortcomings!

LOST A CUSTOMER
This version was in the same price range as TurboTax software I have used for more than a decade. However, you have not included the optimizers for pension-splitting, medical or charitable donations as you had in past versions. By stripping these from the Basic software, you jacked up the price for those of us who do dual returns. NO THANKS!. I will be searching for an alternative tax software that includes these features for my 2021 taxes and beyond.

Not Detailed Enough
I would not purchase the Basic again, will stick to the Standard or higher. Not enough details in the Basic to give you an understanding of what comes next. I liked the prompts in the Standard Tried to save money but was not worth the frustration

issues submitting my taxes
Issues w/CRA and TTax. Lost all info when getting slips from CRA did not work and at the end unable to submit the return missing option for Review Taxes if need it in the future. Line 30100 calculation is unavailable or hard to find.

Not near Standard
TT Basic is cheap, but don't save the money - spend a few extra nickels and go with TT Standard. You will be glad you did. I have been a Turbo Tax user for over ten years, using Standard. This is my first year for Basic, and it will be my last!

Confusing Choices
Don't ask confusing questions that shouldn't be confusing! Do you want to use Direct Deposit?
Yes - I need to register or change my details
No - I don't want to use Direct Deposit .... or ... I do want to use it and it is already setup
What? For this to work for my Mother I had to answer NO to the question about Direct Deposit so the CRA ... Would use Direct Deposit!!
Ask the question about Direct Deposit Properly:
For Direct Deposit of My Refund please select one of the Three Options Below:
1. I would like to use Direct Deposit but I need to Register for Direct Deposit First OR I need to Change my Direct Deposit Information!
2. I would like to use my Direct Deposit and it is all setup / has worked before!

Good but could be more helpful
I have been using Turbotax for years. First time I am using the basic version. I found annoying all those pop up to upgrade. If I choose the basic route is because my taxes are not complicated and and I can handle it. Also the locked cells were annoying.

not impressed
I feel that previous years of turbo tax was more interactive. It would ask if I had expense and I would enter, the program would fill out the forms (I.E. Expenses for teachers) . I was not happy with turbo tax and will be looking for another program next year.

Like it but...
A few weeks ago, I had to make a complaint about a software flaw that wouldn't let me enter an amount in the right category. Today, even after it updated (like it always does), the flaw was still there. I guess they only update the tax rules. I hope CRA understands my workaround.

Quality has degraded badly-find some other produt
… or do it yourselves.
We've been using TurboTax for years. The first year or two it was easy, simple, relatively painless. The complexity of our taxes hasn't changed in all that time - we still have the same forms we had back then. But the quality of this product has degraded badly year over year, to the point that it would have been easier to just do it ourselves. Between displaying the govt Provincial forms for us to fill out, rather than have a screen interface (but using an UNREADABLE font), screen options that don't match the govt forms (with zero explanation so no idea if you're filling in the right online form), and a help system that is no help, well, it was so bad it was funny in the end. You'll need a sense of humour, that's for sure!
Note to the company owner: with a product this bad, you should be looking at letting go several departments.

low value program
Poorly put together program. It is never clear what is going on. You are bounced from screen to screen and can never be sure where you are or if all bases have been covered. The help system is poor, often just regurgitating CRA jargon.
