Tech Glitch
Frustrating experience when trying to file rental income - short term rental amounts default to 0 despite not having selected any profile items in the rental section related to short term rental. Had to search online for solutions to make the values null to avoid the warning about missing data for something I wasn't trying to claim in the first place.

It's decent
The product is decent. Gets me anxious when it reverts a bunch of steps back after auto-logging off or when it keeps putting up the same warnings that I reviewed and cleared a few times. I think that's just a built in thing to make you upgrade the service, though. Still works well for me and I get the taxes done within an afternoon each year.

It Worked For Me
My story directed me to use self online service. I find the personal nature behind why my taxes were not done in efficient time was because my partner was in the industry and it became too personal to finish.
Online taxes is a nice way to get things done without having to deal with personal opinions or other people in the industry wondering why.

Handy Guide but price keeps increasing
The handy guide is helpful and makes sense of tax lingo or rules the non-accountants are less familiar with. My only critique is that it can be confusing to navigate through self-employed business expenses that don't seem to have a proper place to be counted under. example - business/personal phone that is 50% counted for personal and 50% business but does not belong under bus-use-of-home expense. Secondly the price keeps increasing each year which I don't view as reasonable. Good product to use otherwise.

Navigation Issues
It is very difficult to navigate back and forth through the steps, should go back to the menu tree that used to exist.
Not being able to see the actual forms that get submitted until the very end is also very annoying, go back to how it used to be.

it's easy but also confusing
i had a relatively easy time doing this, but there were questions i had that i couldn't answer without paying more so i did my best to follow the prompts given. its convenient for someone who cant access their CRA until they file.

not as easy
I have been using Turbo Tax for many years but found the changes to the software not as easy. The previous "step by step" approach was very easy to follow. For the first time, this year, I had to contact the Help Desk.

Self reporting expenses issue
I found the expenses section of the self income report counter intuitive. When I clicked "add" the button turned to off. I was stalled for quite a while as it appeared it was going nowhere. Maybe some clear instructions as to what to expect is in order?

Non-Res Mail In
The notification that a non-res tax filing has to be sent by mail came at the very end of the filing. It would have been nice for this to come at the beginning.
Also there was no way to change the service type from expert assisted to regular further down the line.

User interface

this needs improvement- i.e. option to skip downloading T5008s as they are rarely complete and or correct. i don't want the volume of T5008 forms but would rather summarize and enter manually. I like that turbo tax gets better every year.
There must be a way to eliminate how many times one gets asked about Film deductions.
tax filing is always a painful chore.

very disappointed that none of the 3 returns we paid for resulted in auto transfer from CRA so we had to manually enter all Tx, RRSP and other documents of information CRA already had.

Every year I use TurboTax for my taxes. Every year I get an email with a supposed discount offer. This year was 40% off. I follow the link, and never get the discount. I feel cheated every time.

Poor Man Tax Help
I have used this software to do my taxes. It is simple and easy to follow, as I do not have a complex return. The only setback was that it cost me $70.00. That is a lot for me as a senior and who works odd jobs to survive. Not sure if there are lower-cost systems. Buyer Be Aware.

Misleading upgrade
Turbotax wanted me to upgrade from Premium to Self-Employed. I am retired and did not generate self employment income in 2024. The only reason that I can think that TT wanted me to upgrade was that one of my investments was classified as a Limited Partnership. If that was not the reason then I am still at a loss to understand. If it was the reason then shame on TT for using a miniscule income from that investment to bump the cost up by an additional $20 (plus tax!). It left a bad taste in my mouth and I will reconsider the competition next year.

works well for investments and rental business
I have a lot of different investments and two rental properties, one of which I sold last year. TurboTax handles all of these cases.
However, due to the complexity of some of what I wanted to do, I do wish the in-app help was better. It searches for keywords and has a hard time finding the right help topics. I suggest they add some AI capabilities to the help feature.
I do like the continuity of TurboTax keeping track of my tax situation year over year.

Still quite useful
Overall I like using TurboTax. It gets the job done quickly. This time; however, since moving to Japan last year, I had trouble getting in contact with TurboTax because I don't have an international phone. It would be great if TurboTax had more options for getting in contact with their customers.

Its taxes.
generally good to use, however, the T5008 functionality sucks. The date of sale of stocks does NOT get into the file when downloaded from CRA, and it has to be entered manually.
Also, some sales seem to be missing.
