Why burden me with Self Employment?
In general TurboTax 2023 worked well for me. There were a few things that were not clear to me (I had US income, etc ...) but generally worked through those things. In previous years I had rental income but NOT this year. Yet TurboTax kept insisting that I needed to upgrade from Premium ($40) to Self Employed ($60) despite THE FACT that I did not need the extra forms, or need to spend the extra $20. I eventually relented and paid the $60 because that is still a good deal versus doing it manually or paying somebody else to do it, but it was ANNOYING. If not for that BUG, I would have given it 5 stars across the board.

Convenient self serve option, pushing me to better
If I didn't use TurboTax since starting to file my own taxes, I would likely have not used it this year. Starting next year I will likely be using a professional accountant or something along those lines as TurboTax has grown frustrating to function and spends too much time pushing "Tax Experts" to review my submission. If I wanted to pay more on top of what I'm already paying for using the software, I would do as I said I will likely do for next year, and hire a professional. I don't need a middle-man software to tell me a professional is the best option.I will find a local option, and someone who hopefully specializes in Indigenous tax exemptions.

Problems
I have been using Turbotax for many years. The software appears to become more glitchy and less intuitive every year. This year there were a couple of significant problems which your advisors could not solve since they had no control over the software. My wife died last year and I had to do separate returns this year. Previous years they had been done together. I was in the process of completing my own return when suddenly, for no apparent reason, the software switched to a joint return ignoring the fact my wife was dead. The Turbotax advisor said she could not switch it back and I had to set up another return for myself re-entering all my information, taking an extra half day. One example of the inflexibility of the system. The online help function is also not helpful. Frequently it simply says "not available at this time". It would have been nice if I could have interconnected the two returns I did for my deceased wife and myself rather than having to manually move information from return to another. Also, I have been using the self-employed software since I am self-employed. But my wife is not. I have been forced to use the self-employment option for not only myself but also for my wife's return and being charged the full amount for both returns. This has been going on for years, so I have just paid the extra amount as I did this year. My wife's return has always been simple with the only complicating part being the split pension income. There did not seem to be much help in doing the split pension income this year. I had to figure out a lot of it myself since there were two non-linked returns. Intuit needs to pull up their socks for future Turbo-tax software.

Calculator Was off...
Return was easy to process, connection to CRA info was seamless but my return, calculated at about $4500, turned into me owing $95 after my NOA was released so not sure if Ill use again next year.

Less Simple
I have been using Turbo Tax for at least a decade and it has been relatively user friendly. The last two years the self employment return has been far from straight forward with easy screen flow. I finally had to call for help and after some challenges it finally flowed to the expense pages. Cost keeps going up and always seem to need a more expensive program for completion of the returns.

better than paper but...
used this software for several years and generally get good results, but the costs are getting too high for the loss of function. My wife started a self employed business, so now we both need to be charged for that, even when i dont have a business.... extra $20 for nothing on my return and no choice if I want to use this software... Maybe time to look around.

Change rates, Type of Product and Discount
I am using Quicktax/Turbotax from Very long time, since lots many people where skeptical about using cloud/online version. I am happy with your product, that said couple of thing changed this year which I am unhappy with it. 1. Now for rental income I need to buy self employed version which is one up from Premier and very costly, 2. Discount code and link you sent via email was always valid as long as I start using it before date, Now thats not the case even if i complete my return and not file before date code goes away and I had to pay regular price. 3. once I paid you sent around three email with discount which is now useless for me after I paid full amount. All in all I am not happy with this tactics and this is the first time in 16 year you made me think to consider exploring other software products like ufile or studiotax which i avoided so far. There might be many in this situation so I advice you to reconsider this changes. Good luck and Thank you so far.

Turbo Tax Self Employed
I needed to use the self employed turbo tax edition for a rental property in my name.
I was disappointed that I was also required to upgrade to the self employed edition for my wife who did not require that edition.

Some subtle mistakes (2016, instead of 2026) (2022 instead of 2023). Hard to find how to fix things (Tuition transfer) when not doing what you expect. Need highlight warning.

NETFILE Restrictions
This new Turbo Tax was not a big improvement from last year, but still easy to use. One disappointment was the inability to NETFILE because I claimed tuition for my MA from a foreign institution in the UK. Please fix this for next year.

pretty solid
Quite intuitive. Only big change needed for me is the ability to play with charitable donation b=numbers between my wife and me since the AB rules changed this year.
It would also be nice to have app help easily available that does not require paying for the special review/audit features. It took me awhile (finally just googled it) to figure out how to contact TurboTax with a technical problem.

some glitches
1. Got some warnings, clicked "Ignore" as they don't apply to me, but then kept getting the same warnings several times.
2. Got an error message, corrected the error, but still kept getting the same error message on the review.
3. I file a joint return with my husband. There was an error message for a missed amount on his CPP but the link took me to my CPP not his.

Simple to use and makes doing taxes easy. However, I thought it unnecessary to force me to upgrade this year for a few forms that worked just fine the previous years for the 1 rental income (in my own home). Made me think about looking for other cheaper options. I didn't but may next year if they charge extra for additional forms that are already included.

Works great but is EXPENSIVE
The product works great and is very reliable. Easy to use in most cases. Does have small points of confusion but hey, Canadian tax law is complex.
Only major issue is the price. They have made it too expensive.

Cost Effective for a simple return
Everything was very straight forward. The only problem I had was how to get my amount of rent into the return. I eventually found out how to do it but it took a couple of tries.

Some glitches but overall good
I've used TurboTax for many years, it prompts are excellent and its always up to date with the CRA changes and requirements. There was one major glitch in the 2023 software program and it was a real pain trying to notify TurboTax so they would know to correct it. Overall I am pleased to use the TurboTax format for filing my Canadian taxes.

Affordable help
I love this product and have been using it for years because it's affordable, and the 2nd cheapest option after requesting a paper return to be mailed to me to complete by the CRA.
One suggestion: for Quebec residents be more conservative with QPP/QPIP deductions, because they asked for over $1000.00 back from me for that reason.
Also, someone has been deleting PDF T1 from my previous years, so you should work on something like a cloud service to keep all that info.

Not happy
Last year I used premier edition to file my tax with rental income. This year I started that way. Even Turbotax is advertising to use Premier edition, but in reality system is forcing (also clarified by service desk agent) to use Self-Employed edition (additional $20/each retrun)

Simplicity
This is a great way to file tax if you have basic tax knowledge and simple tax situation. I did have some questions and tried the phone call but every time I received the call it went straight to my voicemail - even when holding onto my phone. It was strange, I never did get to talk with anyone. That area could use some improvement.
Overall easy to follow and prompts or questions are great to make sure everything is covered correctly.

Some Issues
I question the need for the program questioning whether I have direct deposit setup, and what type of account. That is completely none of your business. I am offended by those questions. This is tax preparation software, not money management software. Quit probing for information that is not relevant. Also, the information asked for below is also none of your business.
