Useful Software
I have used TurboTax (TT) for many years for myself and other members of my family. It receives all relevant information, does all calculations and optimizes for the optimal return. It is not always clear to me which field to enter information about different types of business expenses, fees for financial advice or other information specific to my case. For this reason, I find it essential to send a PDF of all my tax returns to my financial advisor for her review BEFORE filing. I do NOT depend on advice form TT. I go to File, Filing Hub, Review and download copies of my wife's and my returns and send them off to my independent financial advisor. She catches my mistakes. Editing TT is a challenge and somewhat counterintuitive. For example, if I uncheck Carrying Charges, TT does not delete charges I have mistakenly reported. To edit out mistaken entries, I have to work as though I'm entering information in their larger category. So I go to Investment Expenses and see the total, no details. I choose Edit and then work through all the screens that follow, editing out errors. I find that TT is geared to data entry rather than editing. Accordingly, if I need to edit, I repeat the process of entering and look for opportunities to edit. Another thing I have learned is that not all support personnel who answer phones know the software very well. Most of them waste a lot of time and never get to a solution. For this reason, I find it is better use of my time to work my way through all the menus on my own until I figure out how to correct the problems. TT appears to prefer this self-serve solution, as they make me wait to speak to an agent and there is no supervisor or manager to speak to when the agent can't solve a problem. They just flounder endlessly, sometimes for hours, with no solution. TT is definitely self-serve. Having said that, I have eventually found answers to my questions by going through all possible menus. I have also learned a lot by downloading the PDF of the actual CRA forms, printing them and hunting through them with highlighter in hand, tracing the pathways of numbers from one place to another. This is a good way to make sure I haven't entered the same deduction more than once. In summary, I recommend TT with the provisos I have outlined.

This is a great product and I've been using it for year. The one thing I'd like to see fixed: more granular navigation. There are many instances where I have to go back page-by-page to fix a particular problem. This is an online product so the wait between pages can feel slow. I'd like to see more specific, more details links to the different pages in the product.

Improvement suggestion
I use the version for folks with self employment income. Therefore I don't have to file until June 15th but I have to pay any anticipate tax owing by April 30th. There doesn't appear to be any option to enter this amount which in previous versions appeared as "payment on filing" only place to enter the amount is with "installment payments" which it really is not.

Good integration with CRA
I like the way it integrates with CRA. Brings tons of information from the database, so you don't need to waste even more time on that.

I Have No Major Complaints.
On the most part, the process was fairly straight forward. As we move on year to year, there's changes that may cause hangups, and that's the primary reason I gave it three stars under "easy to use". I had issues with "Auto-fill" that gave me the impression I was "dead in the water". CRA wouldn't let me proceed accessing my account. One could file without it answering the questions, but it wasn't obvious until the process failed 3 times and prompted to manually enter. I wasted much time until I discovered it could be bypassed. I filed through the same process as I did the year before. It was fine otherwise.

Easy to use
I've used this program for my husband and I for several years. There is never a problem. Revenue Canada accepts the returns with no changes necessary.

Good but glitchy
I use this every year. I sell through a direct sales company so selected self-employed and filed my spouse's return at the same time. The program automatically charged him for self-employed (he isn't) in past years I could add the basic package for their return. Also, when the offer comes up to upgrade, when you decline you are sent through several screens 2 times over (glitchy) before moving on. I shouldn't have waited so long to file, so had to put up with the annoyance. Other than that, went well. Thanks!

Annoyed
Beware!! If you are filing a joint return with your spouse, and they are not self employed, the software will charge you the higher cost for your spouse. You have to file the returns separately or you will over pay

Very practical
Overall good step by step guidance and confident that all correct and issues addressed. Only issues: (1) for some reason, it still defaults to questionnaire answers from previous years which is annoying when not applicable to current year (2) don't like all the advertising of other tax services multiple times through it (one place would be enough) (3) would be good if had a view of the actual tax return line numbers in the step by step guidance as cannot seem to achieve this view until return is in PDF mode.

Over charged
I would recommend as long as both family members fall under the same category. My spouse does not work and I had to pay for a self employed tax return for him. I tried to change so we didn't file together and the option did not exist. To much info for me to start again. Disappointed changes aren't allowed.

a bit too slick

File Your Taxes in 1 Night
Except for not being able to compare to last year's return for the self-employment stuff, this is the easiest way I have ever found to do taxes. I cannot recommend this product enough.

Great software needs refining
I think turbo tax works great for someone who fits the regular Canadian profile, but if you frequently study and work abroad it leaves something to be desired. The interface is easily navigated until you realize you forgot something. Once you correct your mistake then it is hard to get back to where you left off.

Pretty Good - Use Layman's Terms
I really like the program, but wish some of the language reflected that used by CRA. Example: Disability Tax Credit for a Child. Its sometimes hard to determine if I'm claiming the correct credit in the correct way when they don't specify who has the disability, just who's claiming

Effective Netfiling!
I love that I could have my taxes filed in one day, but I was disappointed with some glitches which took me into loops when I tried to review things, and also that I could not go to forms directly as I do in the purchased software. Just the same, I am happy and feeling taken care of!

Great online tool, HOWEVER, I was NOT HAPPY that I had to enter in my vehicle info TWICE! I had already done all my car stuff, and then when I did my self-employment stuff, I had to do it AGAIN! This is ANNOYING! The system should only ask for this ONCE!

works well, do your homework
Did the self-employed and joint file version. Was all good...until I hit the part where the partner had Quebec tax...had to hunt down where to input that...finally found where it but it wasn't easy immediately in the HELP...other wise worked like charm if you did the full prep

Makes tax return completion easy. Good to have TurboTax calculate and suggest best way of declaring pension splitting income etc. for couples. Only negative aspect was not having a clear indication on summary pages that following income splitting where part of my income was moved over to my wife's income my "pension income" remained the same whereas my wife's "pension income" had increased. Summary page didn't show that the transferred amount had been entered in the my income deductions section. I wasted time finding this out!

Excellent Product
TurboTax Self-Employed is an excellent product, but you have to know what you're doing. I have used Turbo Tax for a number of years and I'm always amazed at how robust the program is. However, it does glitch at times and then you just have to leave the program and re-enter.
