Always reliable
I love turbotax, been using it for about 5 years. The interface has improved during that time. They're working hard to make a very complex process very simple.
If they had a button for 'trustworthy' I'd rank it very high too.

Very Comprehensive Program!
I thought I needed to use the business version as I am a small, albeit part-time business owner. I started off on the basic to see where the program would take me and was pleasantly relieved/surprised that my requisite T2125 was part of the "basic" version, meaning I didn't have to redo into the business version. Excellent!

Thanks Turbo Tax
Turbo Tax is a cost effective way to complete your taxes. It is user friendly and walks you through the process with little problems. My only complaint is that it times out rather quick (online) and the server gets over run every once in a while.

A few things to improve
1. The initial dialogue about "working" is not clear enough. There should be an initial question, and branch, based on "were you entirely self-employed?". If "Yes" do not do down the T4 route at all.
2. Although better than pre-2011, it is still not clear enough what to do to start entering Business info. The key is click Edit on an existing business. This is far from obvious, especially the first time.
3. Refreshing a session after the time-almost-up warning does not always work, times out anyway.
4. Time-out needs to save work better. It seems to go back to the last complete major section, which mean loss of hours of work.
5. There should be a "suspend" for when you know you cannot go to the next page for some time; and that should save all work.
6. What to do in the T2125 HST clawback section where you are instructed to:
"For each applicable remittance rate, subtract sales, commission and fees eligible for the Quick Method plus GST/HST collected or collectible multiplied by Quick Method remittance rate."
Remains opaque. It isn't new any more. Figure out what it means and provide examples.

Helpful but some rude comments
The fill in forms are easy to use. The advice forum has some very helpful advice, however it was difficult to find at times and there also seem to be many tax professionals who spend their time telling users they shouldn't be doing their own taxes, often in rude terms.

Didn't always save properly
When adding some info (Charitable donation receipts + RRSP contribution slips) it wouldn't save properly. I had to click the "Save The Return" button after each entry to properly save the added info.

Pretty Good Overall
I found the Business interview and 'Guide Me' buttons very helpful in ferreting out additional deductions for my self-employment income. The only issue I had was figuring out how to record my contract income for which I did not have a T4. Tip: Click continue to get to the second page of income categories and record it on the 'Other Income: specify __________' line. Thanks.

Not quite headache free but close
TurboTax is a very user friendly interface for preparing taxes and takes most of the pain of income tax away BUT there is still room for improvement. I tried to prepare my return without the help of the government issue tax guide and found many of the fields in TurboTax to be head scratchers written in Accountanteze (the native tongue of the financial expert). I spent far too long looking up the meanings of some of the questions being posed which almost caused my session to expire 4 times. If they could present the "interviews" as they call them in plain English and provide more pop-up explanations it would aid tremendously. Still, easier than doing it by hand. I will use it again.

Easy and painless
Hard to imagine that once I was done with my receipts (1000s of them) and was simply able to enter amounts, with good albeit rudimentary guidance from the GUI, I was done in under an hour.

TurboTax is very good. However, I find the warnings not always the best. I used to also like the old way they had it years ago where you could manually enter in the amounts on certain forms instead of going through the wizard. That being said, I would never choose another software. This one is still the best.

TurboTax keeps improving
1. I started using QuickTax (as it was then called) back when Intuit provided a CD with the program. Whatever the drawbacks back then, the program was highly navigable. Navigation on earlier online versions wasn't so great, but it has really improved.
2. The version for the 2011 return had a glitch that wasted several hours of my time and furthermore required manual correction of the amounts. I am pleased to report that I encountered no such problems for the 2012 return.
3. Over all, I am quite pleased with the product.

Will use again!
This is the second year that I have used Turbo Tax, but the first that I have had to claim additional items, such as UCCB, EI, T4A, etc. The program walked me through everything step-by-step and helped me understand everything I had to claim in my return. On top of that, the value of the service is extraordinary!Will definitely be using Turbo Tax next year!

Good product, clear and fun
This is the very first time a do my taxes on my own. Turbo Tax is clear and it goes along with the user till the very end. Some info is missing. For example it says "if your expense was related to conventions, do not report it here, there will be a space for that later", and this space never came. Also, it will be great to have, for the same cost, an 'online helper', someone to chat when you have a question, synchrounous and immediate feedback online. Turbo Tax does not need a real person to do this, just an intelligent avatar that can help the user. In any case, thanks Turbo Tax! (And I hope that the return amount you gave me will be the one I will get!)
