Good Tool
this is really a good tool to calculate tax, but I'd say it's missing a detailed help for each field on the screens to guide people who may be doing this for the first time

It suffered internal errors while I was working-that was annoying-but......it could have been me that caused it because I was working back and forth between sheets to make sure I didn't mess up-maybe I "confused" the tax brain .......

Concerns
I was unable to duplicate business expenses claimable vs. amount shown through Turbo Tax even though individual entries were identical to my spreadsheet; the ~ $200 difference cannot be explained away by the 50% Meals & entertainment .. I couldn't figure it out and gave up trying :( Additionally, adding to CCA in addition to carry forward of outstanding amounts kept causing duplicate entries and confusion on reviewing the summary; perhaps a software glitch?
All such concerns aside, this software is very helpful in running scenarios, informative, and easy to use :)

I like the way Turbo Tax gathers the information and calculates a running total of the amount owing or refund. There were times when I needed further explanations and could not find them, but in their defense I was rushed because I left my taxes to the last minute. This was my first time using Turbo Tax so I hope next year is easier for me. I will have to make an effort to learn the program better.

Decent
Pros - easy to use
Cons - too expensive and should have capability to search on forms themselves vs. using the simplified screens. I searched for something for an hour and couldn't find it. Would have been a big time saver to just have access to the tax forms and then be redirected to Turbo screen if necessary.

Great but Slow Access on last day
Great product but on the last day of filing expect a risk of access slowness and server overload making it difficult for you to access and process your return.
So, while procrastinating to the last day is probably your fault, TurboTax should take time and care to ensure that there are virtually no service disruptions on the one day the majority of Canadians utilize the product - tax deadline day.

Great advice on line
I have spent the day on line with Turbo Tax agents, and advice experts. They were tremendously helpful. That made the purchase of the program worthwhile. I used the online version and it can be confusing to follow at times, but the very competent folks at the other end of the internet and phone lines were great.

Not so painful :)
Intuit has improved the tax preparation web experience to the point where it is almost "not painful". Sending money to the Feds is not fun, but trying to keep some of it back is a good exercise and Turbo Tax has it down. The new flags are good and the help functions mostly work. I really liked the doo-dad towards the end of the return where you could add in some last minute things that were forgotten by just scrolling down a pull-down menu and finding the right page. The web app takes you there and then you just pop in your numbers and then it takes you back to where you were. I remember some of the older tax returns where I would spend half my time trying to find where the heck I was :)
Excellent Intuit... now just write a new Quicken app for the Mac instead of keeping us tethered to the 2007 one. Your CEO is on the Apple Board, so shouldn't he be a bit more friendly to the people who use the products of the world's largest capitalized corporation!

There should be a way that you could open the general return and then enter an amount in a line that you know goes there I had a amount for being a 1st responder that should go on line 232 as other and could not get there

It was alright, but I think i will go back to using a CD-based program of their next year insteadof the web-based return. The only reason i tried the web-based return is that the CD-based return isn't supported on Mac. I'll do it on a computer with Windows at work next year like I have in the past; ease of moving around the program was certainly not as strong on the web-based platform.

Other than the occasional "what the heck is that suppose to mean, I'm not an accountant" moments it went pretty smooth. There are some questions they have to ask that quite simply are confusing but, that is year end taxes.

Good, but not great
Ran into some problems initially with importing my 2010 information, but it seemed to have been fixed by the time I returned. I had some difficulty with some terminology used in this version, although I have been doing taxes myself for years. OK, but some improvements need to be made for the Canadian product.

Excellent except when the server malfunctions
I have used TurboTax in both Canada and the US for 10 years. This year's preparation went fine except for two problems.
1. If you change your password to your account before you transfer last years data, the server is unable to find last years data. I had to re-enter, my personal, business and CCA amours, manually. The system should allow you to save the carryover information to your local system in case the is an account problem next year.
2. When entering my self employed return, the system encountered numerous interview errors ending with the return showing the puppy error saying that the return had a severe problem,. I tried several times to continue with the same return to no avail. I had to create a new user id and re-enter the complete return; this time it worked flawlessly. I assume the first problem was due to the increased load on their servers, being that it was 4 days before the due date.

Awesome
This program is very awesome. The online program is the best for me to use on my mac at home and PC at work. This is the first time I filed taxes on my own. It is very user friendly and it makes it easy to complete the tax form.

Only for the completely prepared
This is an excellent program if you are completely prepared to file your return from beginning to end. If you only have a few minutes here and there and want to take a few sessions to complete it, it is very tedious. You have to complete at a minimum a section. If you have to change even only one number, you have to go through the whole section again. There is no option to go straight to a specific line and modify it.

Pretty slick
I've used this program online for many years and recommend it. However, it can be frustrating to find certain boxes for special deductions. I also was not able to buy a reduced version of the program once I chose the home and business option at the beginning, so I paid more than I should have.

problems from Feb fixed
OK, when I first started to do my return in Feb. I was unable to transfer 2010 data to 2011. I gave up after trying various methods suggested by Turbo staff. I just input all the data (i.e., RRSP contribution limit, previous capital losses, etc.) in myself as it was simpler.
Then the whole limiting the number of items at 12 for toting up your capital gains/losses from sales of mutual fund or stock shares was annoying. I even went in and combined tow stocks as one listing to get them all in. Eventually when I went back in Apr. that was fixed.
All I can say is this year started extremely frustrating with the glitches and ended fine but the process of getting problems solved was way too slow and should have had clear instructions addressed to EVERYONE on the pages in question as these were issues I alone did not have judging from the message board.

Overall, it's great. If you are married and have the typical text book tax return. However, it would be better if the software guided you through what can be claimed for shared custody arrangements, by whom and how.
