Changed Interface - Not great
I normally have loved this product for several years. It still mostly functions the same, but they changed the navigation design this year, which has made using the product quite cumbersome.

Too expensive
I had to enter a very small amount of income as a fitness instructor in addition to my fulltime job. The program forced me to upgrade to self employed return and I had to pay almost triple the amount. It would not allow me to enter the self employed income unless I upgraded.

Incosistent Self-Employed Charges when Married
When one spouse is employed and one spouse is self-employed, if you want to file together you have to pay the higher fee to file as both self-employed, even though only one of you are. It is a rip-off!!

Turbotax
Used Quicktax, now Turbotax for 15 years +. every year it gets a bit less user friendly and costs more. This year if your "situation" doesn't fit the software you've started preparing your taxes in, you have 2 choices.... do it by hand on a paper return or pay their "upgrade" and continue on. Cost me 3x more than last year for less flexibility in inputting information where I wanted to input it.... garbage. Wont be doing this again with any Intuit product.

Steps Not Always Clear
For example, went through steps on RRSP deduction limit and claimed I used it all though I had not. Could not resolve even after redoing section multiple times.
Explanations/examples not always clear. For example, are consumables like drill bits, screws, and solvents considered office expenses?

Disappointing
I have been filing with TurboTax for at least 10 years now and I'm very disappointed with the sneaky ways they are trying to get more money. I have no income, none, and in order for me to file with my spouse I would have to pay for the self-employment version on top of paying it to file his. So, in order to save some money because we are low income, I have to file separately. It would be nice if there could be exceptions made that if a family makes under a certain amount they only have to pay for the one file, especially if one of the spouses don't even have an income.

Useful but confusing
I like Turbotax, but it can be confusing to use, and you can mess things up easily if you are not careful. Also the price is getting to high for a program that you are doing all the work yourself. Might have to go elsewhere next year.
$75.00 with the taxes is getting to be to much.

Deceptive
First time doing it online instead of downloading. Did not like it. Saw a promotion that looked like it indicated free if income was below a certain amount. So instead of getting the option that would allow me to do multiple returns I purchased one for my wife and plus one for my son who has no income and living with me. I thought that would qualify for the free offer promotion. Nope, I was charged the $60 for his as well as whatever the one my wife and I had. It would have been cheaper to do the multiple returns package.
Program was also changed enough from past years I found it more difficult to use.

If TurboTax cannot do it, why wait until we pay?
After spending hours doing the interview and filling all information that is not imported, we found that TurboTax is not able to do the tax preparation if you move from Ontario to Québec.
"Have you moved during the year" is one of the first question asked!
Why not stop and warn the user at point?

Online is more expensive than box version
The online version is more expensive than the box version. Last year, this wasn't the case. I wish, for kids with revenues SUB 10,000$ the income tax report preperation sould be free. Especially when we are also prepairing adult tax reports. The actual tax report preparation went well.

Doesn't match CRA calculations
Amounts calculated by TurboTax did not match CRA calculations. CRA assesed us for an extra $2000 for 2023 and $700 for 2022.
CRA gave no details so cannot find out where the difference is. We have 1 rental property and have previously not have to do the self-employment return.

Warning
If you use it once, TurboTax the next year assumes you are still self employed. Even if you fill it all in as blanks in that section, it still assumes self employed and will charge you the extra money for the self-employed return

Frustrating
Changed program so much, no longer easy to get right to the section you need to add to, update. Had to continually go through some questions over and over. Worse Turbo Yax year ever. Very frustrating and time wasting. Forms was quick & easy, could bypass entries that were already correct or answered.

Extra Charges
As I filled in my information which was straight forward, I came to a part , unless I bought a higher priced form I could not proceed. I still think that I should have only paid around 60 dollars but was charged over 100. I don't get it.

Should provide update when price goes up
It took me to the payment page of filing to be told that I am paying for self employed, which is maddening. I only found out on the payments page, while asking for my credit card and after on the phone for over an hour, the representative came to the conclusion that it was because of my rental property. But I still had to search and find everything. So for the price increase there is no extra value. It seams like a cash grab to me… I will be using another program next year.

Disappointed
I helped my adult children with their taxes - who are all self-employed - and two out of three of them had errors in the calculation of how much tax they owed.
My one daughter got a much smaller refund then what Turbotax calculated and my other daughter owed almost double of what was calculated by Turbo Tax.
My son’s taxes were accurate.
For my husband and I who are retired and for my mom - it was easy.
I’ve used TurboTax for years and it was very disappointing to have these errors this year.

Pricing issue
I am an employee but run a small business for part of the year. As a result I need to use the self employed version. This is fine, but the issue I have is that my wife needs to file with me and despite her NOT being self employed in any capacity, I am forced to buy her the same self employed package. There is no option to only purchase the self employed version for one user. Intuit is essentially getting an extra $75 for nothing. Frustrating and makes me feel cheated.

Disappointed
I did my taxes like always, but it didn't allow me to enter my RRSP withdrawal for LLP for me, I have previously withdrawn for my spouse. and since this was done in 2014 by Intuit there is no way for me to check and fix this. Now mot just my tax refund is delayed it's also inconvoenced my as I have to call CRA and give them all the details etc. Since this was done on the desktop version of the software, Intuit software didn't have the option to show the withdrawal for me or my spouse. Pretty disappointing g

I think it's ridiculous how you forced me to upgrade to the most expensive 'self-employed' option just to declare the rental income from a secondary suite. My tax situation is in no way as complex as someone who is self employed. I only need to submit one extra form to declare rental income so it would be nice if the upgrade was optional, if I feel it would be to my benefit, but it's not. Honestly, I really like the software which is why I've used it for many years, but I find this practice greed-focused rather than customer-focused so TurboTax no longer meets my needs. I'll be switching.

Next year I'm taking it to an accountant
2nd year using TurboTax. It carried over from year before, which was helpful. But after entering everything there were errors - it kept counting medical expenses twice or something - I could not fix that - not sure why it was doing it. At the end after I said ignore the warnings and tried to fix things, I then paid TurboTax - THEN I was told I couldn't netFile. So I had to print everything and take it to Revenue Canada! Next year I'm not going through this nonsense.
