Frustrating this year
The program insisted I upgrade from Deluxe to Self-Employed because it thought I had rental income. Despite deleting the rental income line, it would not let me file until I bought the upgrade. Always happy with TurboTax in the past. Not this year!

Price Promotions Don't Work
I was using a promotion that was offerred at $34 for Premier TurboTax. When it came time to file, the promotion was not there and TurboTax charged me the full price of $60 each for two filings for a total of $120.
Turbotax is a good product but beware of promotions they don't honor.

Price Increase
I'm not impressed with the upgrade required this year. I was able to complete my return last year with one version, and this year they bumped me up to the next cost level for the exact same product, just under a different name. I will be looking at other options for filing next year.

Large error this year
I've been using TurboTax for decades. Every once in awhile, there's a discrepancy of a few dollars on my self-employment returns. This year, the error was $924!
The other irritant with the online version is navigating to the different sections, especially in the self-employment income section. I need to go through several screens to get to the desired one.
I'll be searching for some other online tax preparation service next year. I'll try to get my money back for this year due to TurboTax's 100% accurate guarantee.

Online version vs CD version
Nice tricks to get people online and have no way of migrating back to "CD" version. Aside from that online if you have rental income it is considered a business and charged extra premiums where the "CD" version is simply the premiere product so to sum up the Premiere Product online vs "CD" version are very different and with no migration back to "CD" version you have us in a compromised position which you are taking full advantage of... it leaves consumers with a bad taste and a sore posterior!

Frays at the edges
The core product is fine. There appears to be no contextual help; pressing help presents some robot that never answers the question asked. It would be nice to be able to see the actual tax forms before buying the product. It often loops back and re-asks the same questions for no obvious reason, which is confusing. The warnings are a good idea, but often seem irrelevant, they seem more like a stab in the dark. Its ability to optimize between two returns is helpful/appreciated.

Something Has Changed
Seems to me that something has changed with TurboTax this year. I'm no longer self employed, but the online program will not let me transfer my data to a less costly option. The self employed package is more expensive than I need. Called customer service and received little help. After being a customer for 15 plus years you have lost me. Sounds like Wealthsimple might just fit the bill - according to a friend. Nice knowing you.

2023 Turbotax Online not user friendly
This was the worst year for product ease. You could not go directly to forms, no listing of forms. Had to start at the beginning of each component and go through all the prompts many did not apply. Did not carry forward much from 2022, missed all UCC data. Did not split 50% ownership on CCA on rental, had to dig deep to find out where to make the change manually. It populated items that hand nothing to do with our tax situation, the program forgot. When reviewing, it never saved your answers to it, had to redo everytime if you had to exit. May not use it again after15 years of loving the tax package. Truly annoying and not user friendly, too much advertising prompts to always upgrade to their tax accountants. Put a direct forms link back in, make it easy to see a detailed list. The Find would never bring up the form you were looking for, it was a useless prompt. The Self Employed prompts were annoying and deeply entrenched from page to page still missing ideal expenses. Due to incorrect population of data, for the first time my husband's netfile was declined. It had tampered with my husband's address which had never changed, they even ask that question at the beginning. Very frustrating year filing with 2023 Turbo Tax Online

Good if you know what you're doing
- Very poor online help while working through the return, e.g no entry for CCA
- had me cycling around and around again after making any minor change, or taking a break
- app didn't recognize that I had a business already set up in previous years, had me start creating a new business from scratch under the same name!
- it seems designed to run you around in circles so that you hire their consultants.
- so if you know what you're doing, or think you do, take a shot at it yourself for the reasonable price knowing that you have a safety net to sort things out, also for a very reasonable price.

Very Good Except
The online self-employment $60 version of Turbotax I used did not pull my unused tuition amount from CRA along with the other relevant tax information it pulled. When I entered the amount manually the program automatically used some of it even though I had an excess amount of nonrefundable credits. Worst yet, the only way I could correct the error was to falsely declare that I did not have unused tuition amounts from previous years. I was not given the choice of entering how much I wanted to use, if any. I also could not edit (meaning change to zero) the amount wastefully and unnecessarily used by the program. I noticed the error when I compared two versions of my return one with the tuition amount automatically used by the program and the other without. Both versions had the same calculated refund expected.
Another error showed up when I followed the suggestion that I had an excess amount of non-refundable credits and was advised to consider keeping some of my medical expenses for next year. Again I experimented with reducing the medical amount claimed for this year and discovered that any reduction would decrease my expected refund. It turned out that although I did have a surplus of unused non-refundable credits, a significant amount of refundable medical expense supplement (line 45200) would be lost if the full allowed medical expense was not claimed. This fact should have been considered when making suggestions. I am slightly worried that declaring that I do not have unused tuition credits will result in erasing the over 43,000 unused credits which would require that I contact CRA to correct the error. As a loyal Turbotax user, I hope that by writing this review I draw the attention of Turbotax to make the necessary changes to the program.

Self-Employed QC income&expens stamnt needs clarif
The 3 web pages of tables that TurboTax presents to Self-Employed customers in the beginning of the Income section are not understandable to non-CPA people. Please provide a lot more guiding questions and explanations as to what each field means in the "Québec income and expense statement" webpages. Ex: What does this mean: "Debts other than accounts receivable" ; "Loans, to individuals or partnerships, outstanding at end of fiscal period" ; "Book value of immovable property"? Why am I being asked to fill in the fields of these 3 tables when I never said to TurboTax that I have any such things/property?
Fixing this will be of great help to your customers, and give them the much needed additional clarity. Thank you so much for all your hard work!
Or please MOVE that section at the very end of the Income and Expenses sections, so they get auto-filled, or left empty if we don't know what to write in there. Since it's super unclear what I'm supposed to put in there...
2. Also: Where's the section on deducting business expenses relating to the educational materials self-employed consultants/coaches/marketers/sales people have purchased to improve their skills/expertise: online courses, audiobooks, Zoom trainings, masterminds, group coaching programs, seminars...? Or please provide a very clear notice (with a detailed list of non-acceptable expenses) on TOP of the "Add More Business Expenses" webpage if such things AREN'T allowed by the CRA/QC/ON, etc. Big thanks!

still many glitches
Turbotax is pretty easy to use, but there are many glitches that have never been fixed. For example, for several years I've found the spousal income splitting is not applied until far too late in the process, after the charitable deduction or medical expense recommendations are made.

offer cost criteria up front
RRSP:Need to be able to add 2023 Jan 1 to Feb 28 contributions. I can only add this manually for 2023 Mar-Dec. Which obs isn't the whole year. Many ppl don't use the first 60 days contribution of the following year. Need more options for which RRSP periods to claim within the year.
Slightly annoyed that I after beginning the return, the upgrade requirement is imposed. I suggest TT provide the costs of packages and their taxes up front. Overall the program works well.

TurboTax is a great product if you live in Canada. If you live abroad as a Canadian Government employee or member of the Canadian Armed Forces it's a real pain to use since we are actually factual residents of Canada. The product ill-supports those options.

Too Fussy
The 2023 version of Turbo Tax has become much fussier and harder to use. You can't get back to previously completed sections easily, and trying to find information is a nightmare. For some reason, my wife couldn't enter new T4As on our joint return; definitely some kind of glitch that I had to figure out a work-around on my own. Seems like latest version of TT is designed to be more complicated and make the user pay for more costly "help" versions despite price increases.

Easy Enough
The Do It Yourself package is 100% worth it and not that much extra work compared with filing with an Accountant. Although it is a bit more complicated (and expensive) since I'm self-employed, I prefer using this over an accountant due to the cost savings, plus I get to be involved 100% in the process and I know what I'm filing.
However, the Live Assisted is NOT WORTH IT, do not buy it! They didn't help me at all and their "expert review" was just them looking it over and being like "it seems good". I was under the impression that they could answer questions about filing as self-employed, they could not, or at very least let me know what fields to fill out on the form and they couldn't even help with that. It's absolutely a waste of money and the experts are useless. If you want help just go to an accountant or Tax Preparation service instead, don't use Turbo Tax.

because I have a small amount of rent income i was forced to purchase the self employed version despite my situation being exactly the same from last year - no changes. this doubled what I paid for my 2022 return. Overall I like the product but having to pay double is not cool :-( I will look at alternative options for 2024

Good, but navigation is terrible
It irritates me that I can't jump to specific pages to make changes without having to click through a number of other pages first. This is particularly bad with self-employment income, where after selecting that section, I have to step through 10+ interview pages just to change the value of one expense! Turbo Tax should stop thinking of the experience as step-through-it-once-and-it's-done!

Forced upgrade
It forced me into Self-Employed even though I am not and haven't owned property for 2 years. There was no way to change this.
There was some weird Agrifund investment that I couldn't delete.
Pension income is under employment. That was super confusing. T5 slips are under T slips not investing, which is easy to miss.
While it's still an easy way to do taxes, its ease of use and value has declined since last year. I've been filing taxes with TurboTax Online for about 7 years.
