Intuit - Self Employed
I used to love this platform and have been using it for years. Unfortunately, the advertising and the aggressive upselling of other tax products makes it less palatable to use.
I have found the self employed portion of the program to be less slick and well, intuitive than the rest of the program.
Otherwise, enjoy the ease of filing returns.

Full charge on zero return
In the self-employed return and filing along with payment if the spouse show a zero return its a bit unfair you charge a full return price. As a zero return should be done free!

Good product but...
My wife got self-employment income last year and we were filing together so I had to pay for the self-employment upgrade for my return as well without getting any benefit from that.

it was all very impressive until....
I was not aware that there was going to be a fee to file. When I stated, I selected the "free" service, but was not able to file until I gave you my credit card number.
This is false advertising and makes me question your legitimacy.

Needlessly Confusing
People who used this product to prepare their own return will regret it eventually. Confusing, convoluted and overcharging. I was charged as though there were non-capital losses on my return when there are none.

Getting more complicated
I've used TurboTax for many years but this year it seemed more complicated and difficult to use. There were confusing comments and messages that just seemed wrong. For example, saying I claimed CCA on a rental property when I did not. Forcing me to use a more expensive version that didn't apply to me (the Self Employed version - when I am retired). Some of this may be related to, the Canadian tax system but not all.

Self Employment Issue
I had to figure out why I received this error
"Your province of self-employment is different from your province of residence. TTO does not support Multijurisdictional returns. Review your entries."
Checkbox on " I was self employed (freelancer, contractor, independent worker, professional, commission-based, farming, fishing)" is not checked and I have entered just T4 and T4E, no other T-slip

expensive
It is very easy to use, but i found out that if you
don't do yours and your spouse income tax
together then you end up paying for both separately. if you bought the box you get up to
6 returns. I am not happy about this because my husband doesn't even get a return because he didn't work last year.

Turbo Tax split income
Don't do it, unless you are 100% sure.
Once income splitting is enabled you cannot undo it. You will have to pay for a new return and start all over.
Other than that, good software.

Works well for simple returns, but...
There are two separate bugs when calculating foreign tax credits. I reported this on the 2020 edition, and it hasn't been fixed for the 2021 edition. The first occurs when there are two sources of foreign income (ex: employment and dividends) in which case only one of them gets transferred to the return. The second occurs when Canadian tax payable is less than foreign tax paid, in which case the normal foreign tax credit is unable to be fully claimed. In this case, to avoid double taxation (for countries with a tax treaty), this should be addressed as another deduction through line 23200, which Turbotax doesn't do (see S5-F2-C1 Clause 1.24).

worth the struggle

DISSAPOINTED
Eventhough my husband was the only self employed person in the joint tax returns, I was required to pay the same amount for a much simpler return. Why can there not be an option for this configuration as it is probably very common

Disappointed with online version
I have been a long time TurboTax CD version user for over 35 years. First time trying the online version, and don't like the user interface. Also miss some features in the CD verison. But biggest problem is that there is no export capability to transfer data from online to the CD version for next year! This is NOT GOOD!!!

long time user now dissappointed
I have enjoyed using this software for well more than 12 years. probably closer to 20. However I was introduced to other software that allows you to see the line numbers in the return. For business returns this is invaluable. Turbotax needs to include this. I am not coming back if it is not.

Too "User Friendly"
Too "user friendly". Couldn't see the sheets or the forms like in past versions of this program. This program was more advanced and easier to see what was going on in the past. The "user friendly" tabs were vague and difficult to travel back through to edit something that needed editing. In the past it was A LOT better program.

a little disappointed this year
The self employed schedule of expenses was moved to a higher priced package therefore it cost me more money to do the same thing this year then in previous years.
Contact to ask why I would require a higher priced package to file a simple T3 slip was not satisfactorily answered.
The geat thing about this program is it completes the pension splitting calculation and gives the best possible split.

New fees are disappointing
It would be nice if the cost of filing was related to your income. I am a low-income single parent, so free returns online was why I kept coming back. Now I have to pay even for a simple return and am also bombarded with suggested to upgrade my plan at every turn. Too bad, I'll be checking my options for next year.

unfair charging tax return for spouse
I was self employed; filed return together with my spouse, whose income was zero. Turbo tax charged for my spouse return as a self employed and provided no option for individual tax return. Whereas this option was available in past.

2021 tax submissions not accurate
We submitted returns for each of us, and when we received the CRA calculations, they did not match for one of the returns submitted. Assuming the CRA is correct, not sure why we would pay for this product in the future.

Be carefull if you have investment tax forms
Luring features, when I was asked to upgrade to the Premier package, Turbotax said the Premier package covers all tax forms that I need to file. But in the end, Turbotax required me to upgrade again to a higher package because the Premier package won't cover all the forms that I file. This is customer cheating so I won't choose Turbotax anymore.

Glitchy this year
I found the system to be glitchy this year, was redirected several times to previous tax years when I logged in. The system should default to the current tax year when a user logs in.

Not smooth process
I have used this product before and found that the 2021 online version has some bugs. It keeps repeating certain pages and forces you to repeat them before moving on to the next step.

Too much for too little
I'm not against charging fees for extra services, hte business needs to have revenue, but, to add a single line from one self-employed slip one has to pay ~50$ to do that? With all my information already in, and my history working with turbotax, I felt cornered in paying it. Alas, if it is still this price for such a small thing, I'll just try other services next year.

Quality has plummeted
1. Multiple pages have missing links to CRA and external sources! Was no review done?
2. Why not make parents complete dependents' returns before their own so there isn't all this confusing back and forth switching from one return to another in order to complete required fields?
3. Could you try to upsell more?! Every page seems to try get the user to spend more money. Makes me trust the software less.
