Great product for the average citizen
I really did like the straightforward instructions and easy-to-read layout, HOWEVER... for some reason I could not go back further than 6 steps and sometimes the "Back" button would not give me the option to go back to a more recent step. Very odd and slightly annoying. Also VERY ANNOYING was the fact that my friends 20% discount code magically did NOT work even after I had tried all of the suggestions in their help section regarding this exact problem other people were having. How convenient for Turbo Tax to have such a "glitch" where their potential customers have to pay FULL PRICE regardless of any discount links they had used.

I used the Home and Business Version. I found some of the navigation less than satisfactory. It was difficult to review certain sections in detail without going through all of the steps again, one by one. I found the navigation clumsy, sometimes sections were difficult to understand without further research. Finally, the PDF version was sent with a watermark on every page that says "Duplicate- Do not send". I'm intelligent enough to know that I already submitted online and do not need to resend - I would prefer a clean duplicate.
On the other hand, the value was good, but not sure the value was as good as it could be considering the substantial amount of time it took for me to understand that everything was accurate and accounted for properly. The user experience needs more work.

I much prefer the old versions that allowed you to actually see the tax forms as you worked. I didn't have any confidence that I wasn't missing deductions etc that I had used before.

Not totally user friendly!
I found it hard to get answers to simple questions.
It was more complicated and not as user friendly as last years. when you type in a help question it should be answered by turbo tax and not put out to questions that might be helpful from others. This is not acceptable to me. You should have direct links pop up to revenue Canada's site, and if user wants they can click on it and get answers for their questions. I had a slip that I did not know where to enter, it took me hours and was very frustrating!

Cannot See Forms
It is easy to enter information but it is very difficult to print or view forms. I would not recommend this product because it treats your personal information as belonging to INTUIT. It is not at all straight-forward when you want to view or print your information. There should be one button "FORMS" where you see your personal information on the tax form. This is necessary to view line items used to authenticate you on CRA websites. There should be one button "PRINT" that allows you to print your return WITHOUT leading to another personal interview that misleads you.

Painful and necessary
I found it confusing where to put certain pieces of information, though once I figured it out, it went along smoothly. Next year should be a breeze.
Turbo Tax also found a couple of deductions I didn't claim myself, and would not have without using a CPA.

Found that this year's version didn't always save changes. As well, it kept saying there was an error in my business address and I couldn't figure out what the problem was so I was unable to NETfile and had to mail my return. Normally I love TurboTax but this year they must have made changes that didn't make it as good as past years.

odd printout
the business section for home based business did seem like they didn't ask as many questions as before and seemed to be missing information. When I printed it it printed 6 blank sections of my business info and 1 properly filled out.. Whatever you tried to do to improve the program didn't work.

Frustrating
I found a number of things frustrating, after years of using this product. (1) timing out and having to start again when I had to stop and look something up or answer the phone; (2) no page numbers to refer to when making notes to myself though I know you intend "flags" to work for that, but they don't for longer term reference, i.e. things I want to ask an accountant about or remember for next year; (3) insufficient information on charitable deductions which I make a lot of, and imagine I have claimed too much of in the past for best tax value but I don't see any carry over; (4) I could not netfile because the program had inexplicably created 10 blank T2125s in addition to the correct one with my data, which exceeded CRAs limit for T2125s.

Need access to Forms as well as interview method
The big missing link is to be able to go straight to a line item on a form to enter or change data. The interview process as the only place to enter data in the online version of TurboTax is so circuitous that it is painful.

tacky programs
this program is great until one goes to create the .tax file at which time one's computer is inundated with tacky software ads. A real turnoff for me. I'm wondering if I've downloaded some virus at this time.

Taxes made easier, sort of...
This is a nice way to do taxes, although if you are a small business owner, it might be frustrating trying to figure out where to properly input your Cost of Goods. For the past 7 years I have used this tax program, and every year I am surprised to see that Intuit has yet to figure out a clear way of showing where to put this information for inventory or COG. It's like they have completely missed the boat on this entry... it is also a bit hard to jump between entries that you might want to come back to, or if you make a mistake and want to go back to an old entry, its a bit of a shot in the dark to find the spot you are looking for.

Not bad but a few quirks
A few bugs in the program, I could not access the tools button until I was a few steps into the process.
The CCA section is not very well explained, I deleted some line items that caused bugs resulting in program crash, I had to start an entirely new return which was very inconvenient. I would still use turbo tax even with these issues

Frustrating
I kept getting an error message for the Child Tax Credit (as many others did) and there was no Fix or explanation offered. Also a pretty heavy handed approach with Audit Defense - claiming I had red flag warnings when everything was in the allowable limits. Other than that it was good. Just doubled my time trying to sift through the nonsense

getting more complicated
I have been using your products for almost ten years. For many years I used the CD that came to me in the mail, but this year I seemed to have dropped off your mailing list. Like last year, I found the Home and Business version difficult to use. For the first several years I found the program a joy to work with, but now I have begun to change my mind.
(1) I used to have the option of making adjustments by going to individual forms, for example, and now this option is absent.
(2) This year as well, I was unable to transfer information from last year’s submitted forms into this year’s return, even though your material claims that this is possible. I had to re-enter all the personal information for me and my wife, and I had to seek out the information, like CCA, to enter it into the 2012 forms.
(3) One of my businesses suffered a loss this year. It was the first time, and that meant that my medical and charitable expenses could be carried over to next year. Although I was prompted to carry over the medical expenses, there was no indication in Turbo Tax that I could save up this year’s charitable contributions as well. I did i on my own.
Last year when I was confused by some aspects of Turbo Tax, I wrote myself a note not to use it for 2012. I am writing myself a similar note for 2013, but I will put it in a more conspicuous spot.

PC vs MAC
The web site say it Turbo Tax can be used on PC and MAC. I bought a version in the store only to find that only the online version is capable to work with both. This meant the cost was twice what it should have been.

Splitting income and expenses with spouse is not easy - you should be able to enter one spouse and then give the % of sharing and have it filled in. The CCA says to enter the prior year UCC and then after you enter it in it shows you what the system has from the prior year so you end up deleting what you just entered.

Hairstylist
Could not file electronically because Hairstylists who rent a chair are always subject to EI premiums (receive a T4 even there are no employment earnings), even when they have not opted into EI by special agreement with CRA. Perhaps this is unavoidable because the first time filing this way generates an agreement.
It was VERY easy to enter revenue and expenses as required for self-employed people.

Not as smooth as past years
I am a repeat user of Turbo Tax and have always been satisfied with the product for the ease of use. The interview process is a great way to ensure you don't miss any details you need to include. I have found the format to be similar over the past 2 years which also makes it familiar and simplifies the process each year. Unfortunately this year I was unable to carry forward info from last year, meaning extra work. I also dealt with an error that was only solved after many frustrating attempts. In the end I am pleased, but a bit concerned with the final submission. Overall a useful tool for preparing taxes and a good value.
