Navigating Problems
I found navigating through your programme very difficult. It is hard to go back to add or change something you think of later.

Good with issues
For some reason I could not transfer my 2010 data to my 2011 return. Official answer is that Dec 12th we took down the 2010 system to launch the 2012 system. Buy more horsepower or storage - I just wanted the file not the system. Maybe some one else wants the system. This is incredible bad service.
A silly question - why do you pre-populate each $ entry box with 0.00. For each box - I had to delete the 0.00 before entering my data. Please fix this.

Needs better expense areas for self-employed
We like Turbo Tax, but we hate the mental gymnastics we must perform to get all our expenses put somewhere. As self-employed individuals, we find doing our taxes a very "taxing" experience because we have so little room to add expense headers, suitable to our profession.
We do like the layout of the software, but something must be done to accommodate the self-employed and their expenses.
Very confusing with the first section of business expenses (without prior explanation to those working from their homes).

Difficult to use
I found the home and business package difficult to use. The FAQ are full of spam comments originating from users that are clearly accountants or advocating use of professionals and not this software. This constant threatening run-on should be removed from the help section as it does nothing but reduce the confidence in this program and instils unnecessary fear in filing alone. The tax professionals were helpful when I called twice.

Online use for MAC
I did not like the fact that the online version did not permit me to view the forms, with the CD version I had the choice to navigate through the steps or the forms. I have a MAC home and Turbo Tax needs to improve this aspect.

TurboTax-Canadian Edition
There are some program glitches, such as income splitting that is really confusing and it can create major errors. In addition the program should allow you to go directly to each page instead of streaming you through the entire section- very inefficient and a time waster.
The business section has two areas one for business income and one for say commission income and they can be interpreted by each individual differently and can create duplicate entries- need to have no repetition once you chose the section applicable- please fix this.

good but could be better
I would like to be able to go back to a "page" without having to go through a whole section, for example when doing the Business expenses, if I want to go back to ONE page I have to go through all of it to get there. You should have the pages listed singularly so one can just go to a particular page.

Harder to use this year
I've been filing taxes for myself and my family at turbotax.ca for the past seven years. This year seems more complicated than all of the others. In past years, we each had separate returns in the Return Manager, this year, my wife and I have a single, combined return. This means instead of entering my information and then hers, I have to alternate between our documents.
I also can't get "Take me to" to work. It keeps telling me I can't use the feature until I save a personal profile, which I thought I did.

Simple - but caution needed
The program follows the same format as QuickTax in previous years. However, the review system does not work as well as in previous QuickTax versions. Having trouble uploading on NetFile? Make sure that your "company name" does not exceed 30 characters and/or have invalid symbols.

I have been using this software for the past 10 years and this year I found the questions to be hard to understand. I also couldn't find where to get the info when asked about spouses income (ex. line 104) so had to go back and forth a lot.

Many problems ...
I have used TurboTax(QuickTax) online for years. Many problems this year (2001 returns), many internal errors and restarts, home based business poorly laid out, problems with spousal partners, asks questions about you then ignores the answers when giving choices late on resulting in confusion. Downloads slow and or not available. Not very MacOs friendly, gives hints only in PC. No side by side spousal reports as in the previous years. Would often spin in Updating mode for long periods of time. Would indicate that your session time was up but then proceed with out re-logging back in. Very frustrating!
Not worth the extra cost for filing small home based business.

Shady business practices
The second you choose something like "audit defense", you're locked in. It's NOT like an online shopping cart. I have to call after paying to request a refund or was told I need to redo my entire tax return. After 7 years of using Turbotax, it's changed for the worse. They've become shady as a business, I won't use them again.

What a bunch of crap that I have Self Employment and my wife has a basic return and she has to pay the same as mine. Oh and, you find out at the end, after you've put in the work, so if you want to file separately go ahead and do it all again.

difficult to navigate
I had difficulty trying to get information about why medical expenses exceeded a threshold which I calculated as being within the threshold were being rejected and a surprise additional cost because I work at a regular job as well as on contract as a self employed person. This should have been flagged up front.

Inconsistent information within the program
1) I indicated in the profile that I am a sole proprietor, therefore not in a partnership. Yet the T1 return that is produced and submitted to CRA refers to “Your percentage of the partnership”, and “Other amounts deductible from your share of net partnership income (loss)” to “Claim expenses you incurred that were not included in the partnership statement of income and expenses.” Why is it using sections pertaining to partnership income and expenses when I have clearly stated that this is not a partnership? This is inaccurate and misleading. Using Chat to inquire about this was not helpful at all. It is also very frustrating, and appears to be common known problem that has yet to be fixed.
2) In the checking stage before filing, a warning came up stating that “I’m reporting Canadian source income from Lloyd’s of London”, a situation that would prevent me from being able to Netfile. I confirmed that I had NOT checked Yes to this statement In the profile section of the program. Fortunately I was able to get back to the warning and tick NO to “Does this situation apply to you?” and was then able to Netfile. Why did this come up in the first place, when it was clearly not applicable.
3) Discrepancy in the date/time that the return is confirmed as accepted/filed. The confirmation in the program stated that CRA received and accepted the tax return on May 1, the implication is that the return is late filed, when in fact I filed the return at 8:53PM local time (9:53PM EST) on April 30, confirmed by an email from TurboTax, therefore definitely on time. Why the discrepancy?
4) My child is disabled and the tax program correctly applies the various credits related to this situation. However, in the Transfer Summary for Next Year, the answer to the question “Disabled?” is No.
In all of the situations described above, there seems to be a disconnect in the information within the program, leading to frustration, extra checking/verification, and a lack confidence in the results produced by the program.

What a Rip Off
Changes to TURBO TAX This year means that if you have a rental property you cannot use the "Deluxe Online edition" purchased from a retail store. You must use the Online Self Employed version which costs $70.00 per return. Because my spouse and I income split, we had to submit joint return, which meant that we had to pay $158.00 after tax.
I have been using TURBO TAX for over 15 years, and never have had this problem.
I purchased the "Deluxe Online Edition for $50.00, and it is useless for my returns.

watch for gotcha pricing
If you have T4A income (box 48), Turbo Tax assumes you are a small business - and charges you a premium to file your return. This is a type of predatory pricing - be warned!

Trying so often to upsell is just annoying. Just give me the option I need from the beginning, without making me go through a lot of "Other" options. Also, I think your criteria for "self-employed" are unfair.

Being forced to buy an additional two programs because one of my family is self employed was a shock as this has never been necessary before. The setup of expenses was confusing.
On asking about this double charge it was recommended i file husband & wife separately, however not sure if this would allow for pension split. The FQA person unsure about this.

Didn't like changes
I have always used turbotax online and it has always transferred my info every year. This year it did not and it freaked me out thinking I was in some rogue copycat site. After two phone calls, one with a new employee who spoke to me like I was idiot, and another much more helpful one who suggested perhaps I didn't "SAVE" my info from last year, I went ahead. I had to to enter EVERY single detail from scratch. I am not impressed. At the end of the filing, it said save your ID and password so all this info is here next year! It has NEVER changed... so NOW I am wondering what the heck happened!!!!??? Why did I have to do all that again!!!
