Easy to use

great alternative to expensive accountant

Make the Switch
For years, I used to do my taxes manually as I had had a couple of bad experiences with having others do it for me. When tax software appeared, I was reluctant to use it because I wasn't confident it would do any better than the others had. I finally took the plunge with TurboTax last year (2010) and found it easy to use. Since my situation changed this year to self-employment income, I had to use the Home & Business version of TurboTax. I'm glad I did, even though it cost more than twice as much as the Standard version, as it made filing my return in time to meet the deadline much easier, and I love how it carries over my deductions for future years.

Good Product That is Cheaper Than An Accountant
While it is a little expensive, TurboTax provides good value. It catches things I would tend to miss.
The only thing I could suggest would be, when filing medical receipts, if prior receipt's input could be inserted after using the first letter, like in most software today. When you have over 50 receipts to file each year, such a feature would be very helpful.
This would also be handy with charitable donations.

Great Product But...
On Questions -

...and the correct answer is no! Double negative questions are very hard to figure out - and this was not the only question badly phrased.

The only thing I would change
The only recommendation I would make is to have a screen after Netfile to show the total amount owed. I like to file first, then pay, and right now I'm having a hard time finding the total owed page

A tax program that I use every year
Turbo Tax Home & Business is an excellent tax program for ...Home and Business. I have used it under Quick Tax name and under simpler versions for more than 15 years and I rate it 5 stars overall. A single issue that I have with it is the limit of gross sales at 10 millions (you get an "overflow" if you exceed it). That is important if you buy and sell a lot of expensive gadgets that return a small net gain per item, like day-trading securities. In my case, I had to split my business in three sub-businesses to cover my turnover and may have to do more so as the business progreses. That is, unless they add two or three significant figures to the gross sales and purchases (it would cost them nothing to do so, there is plenty of space on paper).

Will never do a paper filing again
This product is excellent - admittedly, I haven't used any other electronic version, but I can say with confidence that anyone still doing paper returns are undoubtedly not getting the best return possible. TurboTax lets me try different options and shows the effect instantly (ie. medical receipts on my return, or my hubby's? pension split or not? how much?). I have 2 complaints: 1- the lengthy, annoying "interview" process at the beginning. I preferred the previous process, which breaks the interview into less annoying chunks that I can address as I reach them, and 2 - I preferred the old "t-slip entry window", which gave me easy access to all t-slips and to switch back and forth between husband and wife. Nonetheless - I won't change.

So Easy
For simple returns, it's incredibly easy to file taxes. Thank God for TurboTax!! Even for self employed individual the process is pretty easy.
Make no mistake, the product saves you HOURS AND HOURS and you don't have to worry about making mistakes with calculations.
One of the best inventions of our modern world.

Easy to use
Easy to use but be very careful when entering numbers and other info. The help tips on the right side of each display was very helpful. It bailed me out at the end when it wouldn't let me select NETFILE without first updating the software ( under HELP ). I feel that the software should include a warning at that point that a check of the software update status may have to be checked first. However, there are other reasons why the software will not let you to select NETFILE.

Always purchase
I have owned my own business for 14 years and have always done my own taxes and once I found TurboTax it just made everything easier and who can beat how easy it is to netfile instead of printing out a huge return and then having to mail it in and wonder if it got there. You know in just seconds and it gets processed faster too. I wouldn't do my taxes any differently now, and I know that any info I need to carry forward to next year will be easily imported into my new software next tax season. Couldn't be any easier!!!!

partnership income
