Great prgram but expensive for me
Turbo tax is a great product which enables me to do my own taxes. I love the tips and help options it includes. The only negative is I am self employed (only me in the business) therefore I feel the current software package I need to buy is very expensive to use for just one tax return. Any chance you could come out with a cheaper version that includes fewer tax returns for people like me?

Good for self employed
If you have a small business, TT Canada can walk you through the process. Once you've done it, in following years it is very easy to simply fill in the relevant information

Pretty Good but some bugs
The program works similar to past years but there are bugs in the program that did not exist last year. It indicates that taxes are due April 30 not May 2. Also for some reason some boxes appear blank. the T1 return does not show on my screen even though entered on T slips but it is calculated correctly

labourious data entry required for T5008
The T5008 data editing facility is frustrating. Although these are all capital gains, this has to be entered manually for each slip. With about 200 slips this takes HOURS to do, as you have to click on edit, wait for the T5008 to load, then change the investment type, then you have to memorize an amount in the box. When you press done, it takes you right back to the top of the list and you have to page down until you get to the amount you memorized. If you forget or are distracted, you have to undertake a binary search to find the point that you were at. If after completing the whole process, you forgot to do one T5008, you must go through them all step by step repeating the whole process.
This could be sped up 10000 fold by
allowing you to change all investment types with one click.
It could be sped up 1000 fold by not having the hour glass rotate and recalculating the taxes each time you change the investment type, but this is good information to have
It could be sped up 100 fold by paging though the T5008 in order and changing the investment type.
Corrections could be sped up by having more information on the T5008 summary, for example the investment type and the name of the security

Can be better
I am using PC based software since DOS / 1980's, from Cantax etc days, have preserved the original floppies as well. Have been satisfied with Turbo Tax since its inception, but this year for the first time I have seen software crash repeatedly. 2nd peeve is that it does not properly transfer rental form info to spouse when co-owner, using copy transfers the name of transferor as well. Quite irritating. many years ago there used to be a check box, now no longer so.

Employment Expenses
I looks like there is a slight error in the portion of the software. it's not possible to choose option 1 and fill in the forms. Had the same last year. The Help was not sufficient to solve this.

Easy to use
Simple and easy to use product. All you have to do is fill in the blanks.
I had problems with the product not launching (opening to TurboTax home window) once the product was installed. Helpdesk could not resolve the problem. Had to run as administrator to use program.

asks good questions but found it left out Schedule 8 and only became aware of the need for it when reviewing the print out of the return--this refers to CPP on self employment. Also why does the private residency get printed when no sale took place--printing and paper used wastefully

This product works well but would be a great deal more user friendly for those with visual impairments of the "continue " button was closer to the left of the screen so the it doesn't scroll off when the font is enlarged.

Good but has problems
Turbo Tax is good software but you still need a working knowledge of Tax in Canada. The interview questions can be vague or ambiguous. You cant print summaries. Too hard to override defaults.

help menu
I like the interview method which walks you through each step, however, the help menus contain little guidance on what you can/cannot claim, or what the tax rules are, or scenarios. I had to go searching elsewhere for articles, which may not be accurate. Considering the price, there ought to be more intelligent /informative data in the help menu.

I really feel reassured when I use TurboTax. One suggestion though, would be to have an option where you can download just one return for a reduced price instead of 12 if you don't need them. Overall, great product!

Please do not keep on sending me reminders to file my tax returns. I have already bought it on my own because you had not sent me the reminder in January of this year. You sent it 2 months later. That's quite irresponsable of you not to send it out in Jan as has been done for so many past years. At least you could have sent an explanation notifying customers that the returns would be late this year. Very irritating to keep on looking for the returns and then having to initiate the purchase on my own and then for you to keep sending me reminders to buy something that I have already bought. Stop sending me reminders and next time notify the customer as to what is going on and why the returns were not ready in Jan as usual

Some Areas Need More
Overall the program is simple to navigate through. Overrides, if necessary, are dificult if not impossible to make.Some credits automatically claimed by the program, based on other information in the spouse or partner return,( i.e.Canada Caregiver Amount), needs more information on eligibility criteria.

CRA problems
There should be a save button.
3 time I had to start from the beginning because of problems getting my spouses CRA data. The program just sits and waits. My data was not saved when I had to restart the program.

Easy to use
This software is easy to use but at times can be confusing and requires some additional information or research. This year for some reason, prior years info was not transferred into the personal info section when starting the return. Also, given the info I input I am obviously not able to use RRSP so why can't this section and related questions/input be removed from the software? Would save some of my time. One of the best parts about this software is the CRA on line filing feature which is very handy. Mostly, this is user friendly but some basic tax filing experience is certainly an asset.
