Taxes More Complicated
Have been using Turbotax to assist with doing a number of extended family members taxes for a few years now. Started with mainly the standard product and even had a few that didnt register. Has since progressed into growing families and more complicated investment and home business scenarios. Turbotax has been able to grow with these changes and handle the most of the increased complexity although I do find that I have to research more info each year to be sure I understand how the various issues are to be handled and how Turbotax handles and reflects it within the software. Has seemed to come out fine every year and thus will likely continue to use it going forward. I do find the Home & Business a little pricey as we only need it for 3 of the 12 returns. The Premier product would suffice for the rest. Would be nice if there was perhaps a blended product offering or smaller number of returns as both the Premier and Home & Business include 12 returns.

Good Product
I would say this is pretty good product. It will not help you with complex tax question or problems like how to report a short sale gain or loss but it handles the basics well.

Not Clear and Concise
You could do better in saving the files to only allow those used, instead of having to choose which ones you want to save from the get go. There should be a box stating that you already deal online with the CRA instead of going through everything. When owing there should be a option to pay @ a later date, you don't need to know how I am going to pay.

No Customer Service
Terrible customer service this year, no number to call, forced me to set up an account to ask a question & kept telling me to set up my profile when no spot to do so & wouldn't accept my question, just brutal. I have my son's to do & the system says I can't do anyone else's but my own, CRA says that makes no sense??? You tell me what I should do!

First time Ive done my own taxes in over 10 years. It took a while to work through everything, but it is mostly fill in the blanks. I made a few mistakes, and I just didnt understand stuff, but the errors were detectable and correctable with reasonable ease. it still takes a lot of hours and your stuff needs to be organized, but it is quite doable

Works, but needs improvemkent
It is generally the same as previous years. I like the autofill section - it tells me what data CRA has on my earnings and deductions and enters that information automatically. The review and assist function was just OK. The expert worked hard, but the wait time to speak to him was 20 minute, although the recorded message when I phoned said it would be 3 minutes. The software necessary for the expert to see my return on my screen took a long time to install - 10 minutes using 3 different browsers. Finally, the "help" function needs improvement. There were several lines on the form which I did not understand, and when I tried to get help on them, there was nothing there. On the whole, this is cheaper than using an accountant, and I will use it again next year, probably.

Disability
TT should give more guidance on medical expenses and long term care costs. Clicking the "are you disabled" box can lead to confusion and errors. A worksheet to determine the best route would really save time.

My Go To Software
I used to do my taxes with Excel. Turbotax is pricier, but a lot more convenient and hasn't failed me, yet. Because the income tax forms are convoluted, you never know for sure whether the software is working for you. There is a black-box quality to it. Because I have always done my own taxes, and my family's, I am pretty confident once I get a chance to review things. There was a but in this year's software. When the slip information was downloaded from CRA, the T4A amounts didn't show, and the totals were wrong. However the data did actually come down and it sorted itself out eventually.

Decent software with terrible expert add-on.
Beware paying for and using their so called expert assistance. It took three calls to complete my tax return with their instructions causing a netfile error, then causing the submission of an incorrect return, with a file saving error in the process. I wasted approx. 10 hours in the process.

Many Years of Successful Service
I Have been using Intuit's Tax software (QuickTax and TurboTax) for more than 15 years to do my family and friends tax returns. To date no one has been challenged due to an error of calculation nor have we missed any eligible deductions.

Filing with deceased spouse
Filed for years and always easy to use. This year filing with a deceased spouse, the software is awful. Fields will not populate and helpline was unable to resolve. Now locked out of CRA.

I use 2 T2125 forms. There are several more of these listed. Why can I not delete the ones I do not use. When printing the return, this is an awful waste of paper as it prints all the blank pages.

why is there not a program for a single return
This business program is for 12 returns. Why is there not a program available for purchase for a Self-employed individual that only uses one of these returns in a year? Would be less expensive as well I would hope.

Needs Refinement

Depreciation on 2 autos
problem with two autos on the same business schedule with different business usage rates. Your form does not calculate it properly, therefore, you have to do a second T2125 form for the second auto. Same as last year and a real pain. Same on employment expense form too. Would be so easy to correct!

TTX Review
Worked well except in the help section I searched for Industrial Codes and when I clicked on the link it took me to StatsCanada listing of codes that were incomplete and therefore the incorrect ones to enter into the program. I had to phone the help line to get it straightened out and they did.

Mostly OK
I have been using TurboTax for a few years and generally like it, but.... my wife and I are partners in a small home-based business. I don't know how or see how to transfer all the business expense info from my return to hers. This should be possible but can't find out how, so I have to enter all of her info again, and always make mistakes. Part of the problem is that I can't switch easily from my return to hers, even though I'm doing them both at the same time. Aggravating!
