New Features Needed for Turbo Tax
Items needed for T1:
1. T5008 - identification of security should be listed in the summary; a 50% spouse box should be added; there should be unlimited transactions
2. Foreign investments: an automatic conversion of US transactions should happen with CRA's avg. annual exchange rate if box clicked for US transaction.
3. Net Capital Loss Carry Forward: capital gains should show beside box so you know how much you can enter.

Optimize medical expenses recommended claiming expenses under lower income earner even though the refund was greater when the expenses were claimed under the higher income earner!!!

Transfers??
I am sure I mad a mistake because I could not find the info to transfer unused Federal tax from my student daughter. Do I do mine first then hers? It wasn't clear.
And Why does it keep popping up that I sold a residence?

Step down from pro version
TT covers a wide range of circumstances. I use Home & Business for myself and friends. It compares favourably with professional versions. Maybe I am missing some functions due to time pressure and limited training. However, I am frustrated with the following. Digging into forms with F3 and returning with ctrl-T is too limited; if I go in several layers, I want to get out that many steps. A tax monitor border would be more useful than the giant number in the review panel. What if scenarios and optimizations could be more easily seen. Rolled forward files could have T-slip names already filled in, instead of refilling each year; CRA downloads are too iffy still. Last year's comparatives could (optionally) show in a border line, rather than just on the detailed summary. Generally better movement among forms would please me. Currently there are too many "stops" & list look ups.

business income
Good product, but a little ambiguous on where to put self-employeed income. If you put it under income other you are not paying CPP.
If you put it under business income it charges you 100% of cpp contribution.
Makes a difference in your return amount

Great Product for Canadian (and US) Tax Returns
Like many people, I must file in Canada and the US. I am fortunate enough to have non-registered account investments in both countries, though this makes filing quite complex. While I find that process stressful and otherwise emotionally taxing, without Turbo Tax or something just as good for both returns it would be impossible.

Printing is a problem!
There is a problem when you try to print a screen. Selecting "Print" from the file menu only allows you to set up the print page but not actually print. I had to use a screen grabber to print out my "Detailed tax summary". This is aggravating. You should be able to print every page if so desired. Tax wise the program is great.

It's okay
I used the step by step method for my daughters small business return. What a waste of time. I ended up going back to the 'Forms' method. Also, the Help function is totally useless. Better information is available on the net. Interestingly some of this better help is from TurboTax.

50/50 Rentals
I am mostly pleased with the program, however, when you have husband & wife sharing 50/50 on a Rental Property & you are doing the returns together - the income DOES NOT transfer to the spouse's return - you have to enter it manually. This is really bad if you do not notice the $$ haven't transferred.

Limited Expense Categories
I have used Turbo Tax successfully for a number of years. Generally it is intuitive and helpful. As as self-employed person, I find the available expense categories to be very limited and not reflective of common expense allocations.

The disc PC version works great. We tried using the Mac version of Home & Business, but wasn't as friendly. Didn't show the actual Tax forms and layout was different.... so we had to go back to PC.
Would love to have identical program for Mac

Mac in Canada needs a business version
I would appreciate having a Turbo Tax Business version that works on my Mac without having to use a parallels program for windows.
I use the new Quicken program for accounting and it's great!

Happy First-time User
Although I am a first-time user, I was able to fumble my way through the whole process. The software helped complete my tax return and has taught me how I can better improve my record keeping for next year. I recommend it to others who own their own home-based business.

Most things work great, but as my friend turned 65 in 2017 but did not record OAP turbo tax would not net file. Her birthday is December 10th and thus did not receive any OAP payment. I could only netfile after recording OAP as one cent. Quick Tax should have recognized this problem as the birthdate is included in the return. Also receipt of OAP can be delayed until after age 65.

turbo tax 2017
I have used Turbo Tax for small Business for many years now, I always liked it but, this year I found that some menu have changed and found it harder to navigate specially in the Business portion. The program software was not always responding and I had scripts errors.
