Pros & Cons
Program is very good at carrying forward amounts from prior years. Takes the drudgery out of calculating or transposing numbers when doing it by hand.
I am quite familiar with tax returns, but every year, there are some things in Turbo Tax which are not resolved or not intuitively obvious. Easystep is not as easy to navigate as claimed. If you have to leave a section before you finish (or one wants to check on the form to say proof some numbers) it can be a pain to navigate back to the exact place you left. Also, there is a problem somewhere. My student child is single and as a student, has no investment income. The profile was correct (checked twice) yet it insisted on asking if my adult child wanted to split investment income with their spouse. Really?!
Also, just after successfully filing with NETFILE, it asks me if I want to file with NETFILE or print the form and file by mail. Really?!
These types of hiccups undermine confidence in the programming.
A big improvement would be to allow filers to enter the information for capital dispositions of securities only once and have a percentage apply to the other spouse. It would save an enormous amount of time.

Good Program Except One Thing
Completed individual returns, however when attempting to complete my spouse and mine at the same time to compare the results if I was to pension split, it was too difficult as there was no information being transferred to the new entries even though all of the information had already been entered. Neither the 2015 nor the 2016 information was transferred as some of the questions could not be answered without the information being transferred.

Use for others
The turbotax home and business is pretty good for aiding small upstart entrepreneurs. When you wish to use the software for the non-entrepreneurs in the family it proves to be cumbersome as it can't simply be dumbed down to meet simpler tax situations. This makes the process take far longer than it should for simpler applications.

Very good overall - needs improved bus. features.
I have used Turbotax and its predecessor QuickTax for many years, and have been very pleased with the results. However, there is room for improvement in the area of CCA for businesses. Where a business is shared by a husband and wife, it is necessary to enter the same information twice about CCA being claimed for the tax year; once for the husband, and once for the wife. It would be more intuitive if the data entered for the first partner would automatically be applied to the second partner's return.

I thought it was a little easier to move around in Turbo Tax this year. It could be better though. Moving between tax returns & going to search to review portions of my business tax is not as user friendly as I would like

First ever: optimizer not working
I expect that all items have been thoroughly checked by your IT software gurus; optimizer for charity amounts did not stick after optimized, requiring manual input.

price keeps going up, value not so much
I've used this for years and need it to handle a return for self employment and various investments. Easy to use once you are used to it. The price keeps going up but I don't think its as good a value as it was. We don't need to do a bunch of returns but have to pay for that privilege. Also had trouble getting data entered from the RC62 form to show up on the T1. But other than that, it seems to work well.

Some improvements
I would like an easier switch between Easy Step and related forms. I found it very cumbersome and confusing this year to get past the forms version of what I was seeing on the Easy Step screen to another form.
This is tricky when looking for an amount on a specific line in the T1 for example while in the Easy Step mode in another form.

more than a decade!
I have been using Turbotax for more than a decade. It is sometimes complicated due to tax rule changes every year. I have to do it at least three times prior to submittal!! Tough on business!!..Overall it is a useful software out there!!!

DIY Tax Filing is easy with TurboTax
The program is easy to use if you know what you're doing. Some of the Help features could be improved. Some answers provided were not helpful at all. But if you look long enough you'll find what you're looking for. Would be nice to know what new changes have been made and what additional credits are available. Difficult to navigate through the meals/entertainment expense claims. The program should automatically take the number that is applicable for 'other expenses' and move it there. I probably lost a few bucks because I did not remember to move it to that section.

Wording issues

Excellent value for money
I find Turbo Tax to be very good value for money and a relatively easy to use product. Support appears to be solid. I would like to see a couple of feature improvements:
Carry forward info should include all T-slip, charitable organization and medical service provider names as often the same charitable donees and medical providers are used year after year.
An automatic exchange rate calculation should be available for T-5s expressed in US dollars

I found this product this year frustrating as a pop up square continuously came up with each page called 'error' and I would have to delete it. Also when I clicked on the left to go back to certain areas it would not take me there. Very annoying. I do find the overall product generally easy to use tho, and clear in instructions.

some confusion
I find that the tax software do not adequately spell out the processing of medical, political, and charity deductions.
If they can be carried forward from year to year, the software does not seem to allow that to be easily set up.
It also does not remind you that you have not entered any
amounts for these(as a tx tip).
