Good when it works properly
Turbotax prompts you to do things that don't fit your profile then you can't fix them when you file causing CRA to refuse your return...extremely frustrating!

Frustration
I have been using Turbo Tax for many years. However the last few years it has become increasingly more frustrating to use it. I typically use the forms selection but have been forced to input some of the information on the tax forms using the easy step function. In particular. Digital news subscriptions and tax instalments, the latter being the most frustrating. Because you cannot input the information on the forms selection and have to use the easy step you have to go through a large part of the question and answer part that you really don't want to. Also there is not any advice as to how to circumvent the problems. Also when I tried to print a copy of my return for my retention it would only print my wife's return even though I selected my return. To print my return I had to select individual forms instead of Federal return. Yes I could have phoned but given the time of year I would have been put in the queue for quite some time. Frustration. All of this to say that I finally got the problems resolved by myself.

confusing
Some areas of the program are straight forward, others are confusing and not much explanation or help is included. The optimizers don't really do anything especially if you have say a large charitable donation. In other areas the program forgets the information you enter, so if you go back to review, you type in all in over again.

2017 Back Taxes
Used 2017 for back taxes due to being a non-resident at the time. Was easy enough to use, but there was a bug in the foreign income form selecting a country for the foreign income, and the help was sorely insufficient. I had to frequently go to Google for help. Still, can't beat the price.

Fix the printing bug
There are bugs with the printing of "spousal returns". The software prints the first return in the set, even when the second return is selected.

somewhat ok software
I have used Cantax in the past as a professional taxpreparer. after retiring I had to switch to a lower priced product. TurboTax is ok but I find in not very efficient to use. one of the missing futures is a summery of all T slips entered to make sure the numbers are correct. Also the way the dividends or some of the boxes are entered through the expansion of fields and than they add all numbers together it is very complicated to recheck the numbers. I am also missing the capebility of doing footnotes at an entry very much.

The tax calculations were fine but the tax owing payment system failed to work properly. I needed to abandon turbox payment method and use either the CRA website or my bank

To expensive for what you get
There are to many unexplained forms or minimal explanations for the average person to completely feel comfortable using this program, also the price for the average is way above their income.

Good if you're an accountant and a psychic
Many things are very difficult to find as an occasional user. I wasted almost 2 hours trying to locate or clarify items. The Find function does not find common terms like UCCB, CCB, CPP, CCA. It is very difficult to locate line items in the Business Activities, eg Other Income. References to certain features do not lead to those features, certainly not INTUITively, eg, CPP optimizer. Some features that could have been really useful don't get mentioned until after they could have been used, eg Previous year's import, Import from Quickbooks. Presumably an accountant knows these features. As an occasional user, I did not. Many links did not work, eg, Community Function, Override, it is unclear if these are because of a problem on my computer, in the software, in my download version. I assume it was not my computer as I double checked and updated versions of all my software (wasting more time). Furthermore, some features are not clearly purchasable add-ons as opposed to included, so you waste more time looking for something that you had not planned on buying. There are some features that are clearly programmed incorrectly, eg Quantity of Securities wants a dollar value, so even if you know what you are doing the program cannot proceed. On the whole, the program was useful for organizing and recalculating quickly but for a small business owner, the savings in buying the program and doing my taxes myself were quickly lost in the time wasted that could have been used to earn income. Conclusion: it's a good deal if you are technically familiar with accounting / bookkeeping terminology and can guess where a programmer would hide links to the things you are looking for, but a questionable investment if you are hoping to save on hiring an accountant.

Not so competive anymore
The QuickTax/TurboxTax was the leading product in the 1990s. It is not so competive anymore in the fully internet computerized age. The help function almost loses its value with not that helpful anymore comparing a regular web searching. A lot of improvement needed to keep it up.

It's gone downhill
Used to be an incredibly good product - but technical support on tax issues and product usage has slipped. For instance - the government introduced covid related work from home allowances - but searching forms lookup for "home," "work from home," or "covid" yielded nothing - I got the result by searching with Google. It was from an Intuit website - why couldn't I find it from TurboTax?
I have used Turbo Tax (or WinTax, the predecessor) for 27 years - but I am thinking of looking for a new provider.

Good for Simple Returns
This software works well for simple returns. It doesn't allow for both spouses to have their own medical expenses and/or donations which is sometimes needed for second marriages and/or high medical and/or high donations (especially with carryforwards). I had to e-file one spouse with her medical and donations and then remove her info for these and add his info for his return (at least TT allowed me to do this). As well, the default for income type from T5008's should be capital gains so one only has to adjust the far fewer times the income is fully taxable. With many investment transactions, much time is lost with the identification of income type. Next year I will input the summaries from the investment firm and not import T5008's from CRA.

Issues with CARE tax benefit
CARE tax benefit is calculating even when not eligible - if family income is more than $150,000. I have noticed it and spend a lot of time trying to find a solution how to fix it.
