2017 Turbo Tax
In past years I have been able to edit the tax return in forms. This year the only way to update certain data was through Easy Step. I had to call Turbo Tax to get this information. Put it back to where we can fill in all fields in forms.

Business codes?
It all was good till it came short a bit on business/Industrial code. it would not accept the code was used for the last 10 years.... it was very strange... must have been a glitch! just watch out for some surprising glitches...

QuickTax 2017
I think there are areas where QT could still be greatly improved. The 'help' files in particular. CRA has all kinds of stupid credits and finding out what they are and whether or not you are eligible should either be AUTOMATICALLY applied by the software (when possible) or an EASY look up. Also, when you get to the point of filing the return, QT doesn't seem to know when you have made a copy of your return or not and you can end up going around in circles saving it multiple times because it loops around in this section.
There are many areas of filling out a return that are still too confusing and could be made easier with better guidance by QT.

Many schedules hidden
There are many flaws with this products. Even though I paid an excessive price for the Small Business version it took me about 2 hours to review the forms and to find forms which I needed to calculate business expenses properly. also I had to hunt for a form to record T4A -RCA. Had to hunt for a schedule to record CCA. You may as well buy the cheapest version if you are experienced and know how to fill your tax. If I didn't know I would have botched this exercise entirely

has become unfriendly
I just wanted to say I always used Turbo Tax. In the past I find it to be helpful but recently it is difficult to work with especially using the easy step and trying to do an income tax return for disability benefits and credits. I did try to use your help button but let me tell you...some of the responses are ridiculous...such as start over your return and could be a glitch. it's becoming a waste of time and frankly this year I am disappointed!!!!

Use STD edition if completed via form
If you are completed your return via form only the standard edition will do just the same and save you $70.00. I thought this version would have more tools as far as ETF ACB tracking but it does not. Just add more tutorial

Excellent as usual
This version was better than last years which made a mess of my rental income information. It had trouble splitting a 50/50 partnership and deleted my mortgage interest. This year it did not so that was good. Still not great when dealing with capital assets or rental income, could be a lot simpler and easier.

Non resident-Skip it
This software is poorly suited for a non-resident of Canada. Even after you check in several locations that you are non-resident, it still asks and in the reviews of your returns it still tells you that your postal code and your province are invalid. Once one checks that one is a non-resident it should bring one to the pertinent forms only. Instead, it makes you go through the entire interview process.

The Help Button Doesn't Work Well
I find this 2017 version awkward to navigate. I prefer to use "Forms" but to go from "Forms" and find something using "find" doesn't work. It's frustrating. I have used TurboTax (and its predecessors) for years and years, but it seems to be more cumbersome to use the program instead of becoming easier, as one would expect. Let me state that I have been doing income tax for clients since 1990.
I will say that when I contacted TT today for information about filing capital gains, the response was prompt, efficient and most pleasant. Thank you.

not the best purchase ever!
I found doing this year - 2017, on my small busines, very frustrating. When I did simple taxes on it, The program seemed to make things more complicated!!!
For the average JOE, doing the EASY STEPS, should be less complicated - not so many irrelevant questions.
Also I missed not being abler to bring the 2016 tax info, to start 2017. I had to import a lot of things that would have saved me time, if I could have just brought up the previous years inf.

Unfriendly for Home Business
It could be made so much easier!
Why do you make me enter all the home business information twice when we jointly own the business with my wife? The business data are the same for each!
And it is really difficult to check - compare - that the multitude of entries are the same for both returns. In my and my wife's return. I have been pointing this out I do not know how many years now! You buy the software mainly because of the home and business reason. But you are not doing anything to improve that part! It sucks majorly from this point of view. Not what I would call Easy Steps. Lost Time Steps would be a better handle. Please, fix it! I understand the cloud version of the software has it? If yes, then cut and paste it into ours as well. Thank you!

Is good. Sometimes need the help tab and not able to direct me fully to where I need. IE CRA or other. Hard to contact someone from Turbotax. Takes days, weeks or sometimes never respond. This is frustrating. When searching for a line on one of the forms, does not locate. Would be nice to do a search and it pulls up the correct schedule or form. Would be nice once you have filed, to make an adjustment right on the file and print off the T1 adjustment with the new added changes.

Not Completely Happy
I have to use my PC to work on TURBO TAX ... I have a MAC and I prefer using that all the time and turbo tax is not compatible on MAC yet

long time user
I continue to use turbotax and its predecessor quicktax. I do find it becoming less and less user friendly though. The way the software worked and its tips in the past seemed more intuitive then it is now.

NOT SURE i MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE
I FOUND THIS YEARS TURBOTAX VERY CONFUSING AND HARD TO USE. THERE WERE TO MANY MISLEADING AND REPEATED QUESTIONS THAT CONFUSED THE HECK OUT OF ME. I HAVE USED TURBO TAX FOR AT LEAST 20 YEARS AND THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR THAT I QUESTIONED IF I SHOUD USE IT AGAIN OR FIND SOMEONE ELSE TO DO MY TAXES NEXT YEAR

Hated the Help File
The Help included in this product is next to useless. It does not seem to be context-driven and it brings up all kinds of useless responses to text queries. I also note that the program contains the same bug with regard to Foreign Tax deducted (relates to 20(11)) that ended up costing me an extra $120 last year when I was told by CRA that this field was not to be used for this purpose (overpayment on Taxes deducted from Foreign (US) dividends.

Have used this for many years, Good Purchase
The only drawback with this program is that they don't make it easy when it comes to transferring disability credit amounts, from the dependent to the person taking care of that person. I would like to see that a little less convoluted.
When I was looking for the information I noticed there were a lot of other people as confused as I was. Would be nice to see that a little less complicated. Now a days there are a lot of people looking after their elderly parents and I am sure they would like to see that section simplified.

I have been using Turbo Tax for 4 years now. This year I found the program to be less easy to use. Information was harder to find. Guidance was less readily available. When I went to help instead of answers I got the questions of other people who where having problems answered by other users not knowledgeable professionals. Not happy about this.

I have used turbo tax for years and this is by far the worst version. I ran the program 4 times and got 4 different results.
Also I received a notice from CRA for my 2015 return to tell me the info you calculated was wrong and I have to pay a penalty.

Will be great with refinement
Great price point and good for home-based employment expenses.
Not clear with self-employment business and home-based income and expenses relating to self-employment. Guide/Help is pretty much a glossary... not a guide or helpful resource.
Definitely needs to be refined but it's evolving and will hopefully get there! excited to see next year's version!
Autofill and Netfile are great features!
Walkthrough starts out great before fizzling and disappearing.

Mac users
Turbotax still does not sell a downloadable verson for Mac users. I have had to keep an old Windows computer on hand which has Vista on it which now will no longer be supported. I will be looking for an alternate supplier for 2017 tax returns. This is unfortunate as I have used Quicktax/Turbotax since 1995.

TurboTax 2016 Home and Business
The medical portion has changed from last year and only allows one item under easystep. If you go to forms and select medical then click on the first entry then you can enter additional forms as in the 2015 version. This is often needed if you are carrying forward from last year or need to carry forward to next year.

Better when it was quicktax
I use to use quick tax all the time. Once it was taken over by trurbotax, I have notice it deminishing a in quidence over the years. their use to be help videos which are no longer part of the package. Also the guide me feature less available.
Still makes it so much easier than filing by paper.

Old interface - still buggy - too expensive
The interface is old, does not follow modern windows or an GUI standards. And then, it even breaks it's own rules and is buggy. Too expensive, esp the different versions. Should be 1 price for them all!
