Be Careful
If you are using easy step be aware some of their calculations listed are wrong, but they do appear correct on the forms.

Overall good for basic tax returns.
Please improve the Farm and investment features as it is a waste of time to have to enter all farm income & expenses twice and all investment income data twice for farm & investment partnerships. Just allow us to designate the partner and percentage on each one and carry it over to the partners return.

Customer Service
Customer Service tax assistance using the program should continue throughout the year for people who file later than the deadline. It was stated by the company that there are fewer requests for information later in the year. That being said, reduce your staff to the appropriate number for the call volume. At minimum there should be 1 person available all year to answer questions.

Could do better
The US version is better...c'mon TT Canada...make our version as user-friendly as the US version

Medical expense entry
I find it very difficult to enter a large number of medical expenses. The user interface is not user friendly. Should be able to either import from Excel or Intuit should provide a much better user interface for this.

Issues with commodity codes
The commodity code is right but turbotax says its wrong so I cant net file. This has happened two years in a row. Also on the business form its telling me to fix the percentage of partnership to zero but it doesn't accept that either. So I had to mail two returns. the code is for canola

I found the software slow and easy step missed alot of items. Never got me to pension splitting even though it was specified. Runs very slow this year as well.,

Help that was not helpful at all
I have enjoyed using this product in the past but in saying that never needed to call the help line in the past. This time I did need to call the 1888 number and it was a complete waste of time. It is out sourced to another country and the person I got spoke little english and didn't have a clue what I was asking.

I always buy this software
I have always used the Quiken product. I would choose non other. It talks me through complex calculations and has saved me thousands on accountant fees.

Great but still lacking
The Help topics should be updated to coincide with tax changes. There is no search result in the Help topics for First-Time Home Buyer's Credit. The only place you can enter any information regarding this credit is in the Interview. This is inadequate for users who use the Forms method.

T4A - Line 107
I could not enter the information from the T4A on Line 022 or Line 107. It said that the information was not valid, and when I tried to get an answer on line, I was not able to, so I am very frustrated with Turbo Tax at the moment. I was not able to complete this tax return and did not find out why or how.

To be consider
I have noticed that, Turbo Tax keep suggesting that the medical expenses should claim under low income partner, but in my case its gives less return (or no return for the medical expenses) if I choose that way. Because my partner's income was only UCCB.
So Turbo Tax have to consider to improve in the way to check that the low income source and its eligible to get return???!!!

speeds up refunds
The prinicipal advantage of this program is that it is relatively straight forward, albeit cumbersome, but ensures a rapid refund. If you are not expecting a refund then look for a better program.

Needs work on Home Business Version
Had a bit of an issue with farming activities (income & exp) and the help wasn't as helpful as I'd like it to be for a Home and Business version.
The net capital loss carry forward wasn't explained well and there was no recommendations from Turbo Tax even though I had prior year's losses reported in Turbo Tax. Net Farm Loss carry forward wasn't explained well either. I may go to an accountant next year.

A couple things to Fix!
I have used Intuit's Quicken and QuickBooks for years. Those products are way more intuitive than this one. I expected it to work in the same way and it didn't.
The biggest issue I have is the No Autosave! Silly me, I assumed it worked like the other 2 products I mentioned and I managed to lose all my work when I left my laptop open with the work in progress and then Windows came along and ran their Wednesday night update. Lesson learned!
The other thing I didn't like the promotion of the Audit Protection. And some of the questions were worded such that I was not quite sure how to answer.
I still think the value is high and will use it next year.

A bit cumbersome
I purchase the business package of Turbo Tax expecting to be able to E-file for the few business clients I have - and guess what...I can't E-file for them. Turbo Tax does not even allow me to e-file a simple personal tax return for my clients.
what is the point of having the capability of doing 12 returns without E-file option?
- Difficult to go back to main process once you click on a business information page.

Updates not kept up
I received an error message when doing the review on the file regarding my address having wrong characters. The error message talked of '&' or '*' etc but did not mention '.' - the most common and basic character used in an address - a period. I reveiwed the online community and saw that many people had the same problem over many months.
My issue is that TurboTax saw all us confused users trying various methods to correct our addresses while writing to and reading the community boards to finally solve our issue. TurboTax did not take the time to change their error message to cover this most common error. It would have saved a lot of people a lot of time.
And it would have saved me the time and effort to find a new provider for next year's return. TurboTax has lost its edge on service.

Efficiency
It would be very useful to program into the software a closer relation/connection between the methods of tax calculation, i.e. the “Easy Steps” method and the “Form” method.
Why not add a return-button to the taskbar to facilitate the return to precisely the departure page when shifting between the modes?
This would greatly increase speed of search and verification.

New glitch
Thank goodness another user played with the software - otherwise many of us would not be able to netfile. TT, you gotta get a better handle on your technical staff. The error/fix is NOT with the percentage ownership (as software indicates) but in the formatting of the business number.
