functionality
This year's function was a bit different from last year, 2011. Some elements were changed so, I managed since I have been using this software for so long...
Easy step function is practical and user friendly.
some boxes used to have the hyperlink option for further explanation, which it was missing on this year version. (that was helpful and handy)

Needs some work
In some cases like professional member fees, i would be great if the space allocated would allow for the name of the professional association.
In a similar fashion, on some of the expenses (for instance Medical) it should allow space to note that the expenses correspond to multiple expenses accumulated for a period of 12 months.

Could use improvement
The most annoying thing about TurboTax is navigating from one page to another. I always end up at the beginning of a section rather than specifically where I want to be. I am probably missing an easy instruction but the fact that I have missed it tells me that the program could be made clearer and easier.

This program was easy to use but when it comes to downloading the video, you cannot download it. It is very difficult for an older person who is not computer savy to follow the instructions and guidelines. This program was much easier to follow last year and made more sense.

had much trouble with the dependant summary portion and spent hours trying to change the credits. In doing community research looks like other folks were as frustrated about this as I was. Really need to improve this as right now not sure if I would buy this product for next year.

Business Info.
In a 50/50 business partnership it would be nice to have the option of copying information from one partner to the other without having to enter everything twice. Having to dupilcate so much of the information is time consuming and is an open invitation for errors to creep in.

full copy printing
I love Turbo Tax, but this year I was disappointed that it only allowed you to print a condensed version of the tax return. Some people still want to have the option to print a full return.

Works but getting worse
I have been using QuickTax/Turbo tax for over 10+ years, and it appears that every version makes it more complicated and les user friendly. By dumping it down too much and leaving it key elements. For example, the digital promopt for T4 entry skipped through the enter process.

not as good as it used to be
I have been using TurboTax (QuickTax) for over 10 years, and have been generally happy with it.
This year, however, I was not at all happy with the experience of using it. This is for two main reasons.
First, the QuickTax Stock Tracker files can no longer be imported into TurboTax. This ability was one of the main reasons I used TurboTax in the past. The ability to track stocks, compute costs basis and capital gains is very important to anyone who buys and sells stocks. Having to compute and enter this by hand is very tedious. A software program should be able to do this!
Secondly, the browser interface to the help facility is erratic. Almost every time I tried to access the help facility an Internet Explorer window would popup, but hang. The only way to get access is to repeat the action multiple times. Eventually a connection would be made and the information displayed. But this always took a lot of time. Note that I was filing late, after the deadline, so this problem cannot be blamed on server congestion.
For me to consider using TurboTax next year, there would have to be some way to import stock trade data.

Glitches - Where's the Support?
While helpful, there are a few glitches and sometimes when you enter something and then go back and change it it doesn't update on all fields. Also it is hard to navigate to certain fields and you need to go to the forms themselves and do manual changes as the easy step does not give you an option to access certain fields. My biggest beef is that they position Quicken as having access to a live operator who is a tax specialist that can annwser your questions. Uncortunately that ends in May. This my be fine for the majority of people. But I am a business owener and do not need to file until June 30. That said when I went to access this service it was no longer available. Other than that the program is good easy to navigate and gets the job done.

Mac compatible?
I would love to have the program actually be mac compatible. I find having to run a virtual program on my machine slows the program down considerably. I have searched high and low for a tax program that I can run on Mac and am frustrated that I have been unable to find one. Is there one now and I just can't find it? I was very frustrated at the "waiting" for the button to respond every time I was finished entering my info on the page. By the time I was done doing my husbands and my taxes on it I was almost stark graving mad.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your program for the ease of filing. My husband turned me on to a program from paper/pencil a few years ago and I do like it much better. I usually enjoy doing taxes but this year was not a great experience.
Thanks.

I was happy with Turbotax until I started a small business. Its easy to see that the development and feature focus in on persoanl vs business taxes

Seems impossible to edit
I wanted to go back after saving my return, yet I could not go to specific pages or forms to change.
All I could retrive was the final summary of deductions or income summaries.

a big improvement needed
In the Easy Step interview mode, it would be helpful & way less aggravating if you would provide links in each tab to help avoid having to go through each steps of the interview tabs all over again to get to where you want to go. For example: in the Deductions Tab, you could list all the deductions already chosen. Then, when I need to go back to add/change, let's say, medical expenses later it would be faster to click on a "Medical Expenses link" instead of going trough all of the previous different deductions before the Medical Expenses section.

Live Community
Live Community seems to be all questions and no answers. I was not able to get any answers from this Ask My Question feature. I would suggest that you instead use an expert tax advisor to provide the correct answers rather than relying on other customers to provide what can become very important advice. If incorrect, an answer may lead a customer down the wrong pay and ultimately cost him or her money!

Average
Product is average. If you create more then one version of your return, you do not really see which version you are in as it only displays the basic name of the return without the extra. Updating info after original input is not that friendly. You need to review each entry to insure it is counted in.
I prefered my previous software but thought I had to use Turbo Tax because I have Quicken Home and Business. It became obvious as I went through the process that I did not.

still needs improvement
there are two issues I encountered
- First, Turbo tax did not properly communitcate with Quick Books (your Program) and provide the cost of goods sold.... I need to manually enter the date.... Not what I expected
- Second, if I allocate my charitable donations to my spouse, I expect it to be allocated, not changed to the highest income.... I'm smart enough to know where to allocate my donations.

Convoluted
I found TurboTax to be complicated and time consuming. It needs a more convenient method of switching between spouses' tax forms/files. The casual user is often not well versed in answering the preliminary questions that control the forms available. Sometimes forms seemed to me to appear or disappear or are missing for unfathomable reasons. Judging from the comments in the client chatter file, many people are finding this system time consuming and baffling.
You should expain before starting the importance of opening both the master file and the spouse file together so that they will communicate with each other.
Please remember that there is often a significant divergence between the expertise of your programmers and that of the general "clutz" doing his taxes once a year.
I found QuickTax much more effective and much less frustrating.

Integration of data from Home and Business is not great. If you have any errors in your transfer they end up in Turbotax there should be an interim step, this wouold allow you to check the data going in. Everyone has errors within their accounting software and it shows. I have to do it all manual, example, I have 3 phone lines 1home 1 business and 1 shared. Costing is a pain.

This was an easy tool to use, sometimes too easy. But hey, its software and can only do so much. It needs to be clear somewhere that you cannot do someone elses return using this software. When you go to file electronically, it is clear this is only for your self. Great - now that i did this for someone else i cannot do the NET file.
