Good Time Saver
I get this every year to save myself a bunch of time come tax season. My return is usually quite complicated, but I am able to manage it myself with TurboTax.
I wish the help windows were a little more descriptive, but other than that, its money well spent.

Premier for simple stock sell
Nice software but:
- I think the extra money I paid for the premier version for capital gain/loss was too much.
Capital gain/loss need more development, which apparently has been an issue from the past. This was the first time I have to do that, and it was confusing.

Pretty Simple
I was not happy with the service I received from my accountant last year. Plus, I wanted to understand a little better how taxes affected investment income. It was so easy to move income and deductions between my wife and I to maximize my return. Very happy with product.

Good but only for easy returns
The section dealing with Gifts of Capital Property is not very clear. It would seem that there should be a reporting of the items not just claim the capital gains as 0 rated.

Good but...
The program worked well, easy to use and easy to integrate my wife's info with mine, until I tried to Netfile. The documents would not download using Chrome browser. I reverted to Internet Explorer and it worked fine. I was left with some frustration as I tired various things before finding out I could do that.

good software but.......
Ok so ultimatly this is great software, but there are small issues with the layout and such, needs to be simplified more for some older users, people asked me for help with this software and i had to refer them to the ask help desk.

Good Value

Call toll free when having concerns.
I called the toll free number when I had any concerns and was helped out immediately. I think toll free number is more practical than live chat.

error checking could be better
I entered a date that should have be 2012 as 2013 and the program did not show an error message or prompt; this meant I spent considerable time looking for my missing medical deduction on wifes return. since medical deductions are limited to end of tax year it should be simple to pick up that kind of entry error.

Pretty similar to Standard Edition TT
I've used TurboTax/QuickTax (standard) for about 4 years now. It's pretty good in that it makes an overaly complex tax system a bit more approchable. This year I have more and more vairied investment income, so I tried the "Premier" edition - I did not see any differences between stanard and Premier. Not asying there aren't any, but I didn't find them.
He's my major gripe about TT (Standard or Premier). The last few years we've transferred dividend income from my wife to I. Some of our information slips report BOTH dividend income that can be transferred AND other income that cannot. The only way I can figure out how to handle this in TT is to create two entries for each such slip - one with all the eligible dividends, and the other with everything else.
Seems workable, I hope it would survive an review by CRA. It's one of those things that would be pretty easy on paper, but using this software tool is difficult.
A feature I would like would be a "what if" type scenario tester - where you could "save" your return in a particular state - try a few things to see what the effect on your refund would be and then if you didn't like it roll back to that save point.
Other than that I've no major complaints - good product, usable interface (I don't think you could make any tool that completes a Canadian tax return a joy to use) as far as I can tell accurate, very good help both in the descriptive material and the community forums.
I'll be using it next year (probably the standard version)

Carefully follow steps
I suggest that you have all your medical receipts and Charitable donations added up before you start. It's inconvenient to have to add them one by one during the process and it also helps to decide if you can even claim all of them depending on your income.

Premier harder than basic
In basic I just put amounts where I wanted. In Premier I was asked for details that were not readily available to claim the capital gains & loss that I already had the final amounts for - I had to guess at some & change when it went in the wrong place. Not getting Premier again but will use basic.

IF YOU CAN ALLOW DOWNLOAD of turbo tax software just like your US partner, if will be great. in addition, if your canadian version of turbo tax is very close in feature like us partner, it will be perfect. one more, if your hotline is good as us partner that will even be better.
I used to rate 5 to US turbo tax.

good value for money
Very easy to use program, it helps you from step to step along the way. This year I had a glitch with a deduction that shouldnt be there and called the phone number for help, very good customer service. The problem was fixed. The customer service rep said they would check into my problem and call me back and they did. The netfile was easy, now I am just waiting for my refund. Yeah!!!

Easy to use except northern residents deduction
Everything went very smoothly except when I was entering the northern residents deduction. Long story short, I did figure it out with the help of the 'community' with others who went through the same thing. They need to fix this so if you need to go back and change something, you can.
