Handy dandy but poor value to do tax basics
TurboTax is convenient for importing tax information and for navigating around the basic menus. Requiring TurboTax Premier in order to handle investments has been an unacceptable upcharge this year. This product doesn't offer good value if all you are doing is entering basic T slips information and basic tax activities.

Frustrated
If you have a simple return, TurboTax is great. If you have a more complex return (and upgrade to Premier), it is more complex. It is difficult to detect errors in the returns because there is no drill down capability. It takes a long time to review the return for accuracy. You basically have to run a parallel spreadsheet to make sure the results make sense.

Annoying
The data entry was very annoying. Very few questions per page. Very chummy tone, almost condescending. So many clicks for so little information entered. This really took away from the process and was a detriment to actually doing my taxes.

Like the software but impossible to get a hold of someone to talk to. Can only get virtual and when it cannot answer the question thats where it stops.

Not easy
Was a pain trying to get to different forms. The work from home section flat rate method would not let me netfile. Some forms I could not find. I wont be using Turbo tax again next year!!!!

Disapponting
Turbotax has a known bug in the education tax area. Forces you to mail in your income tax. This is disappointing and the fact that they are aware and haven't fixed it is concerning.

Not that easy to use
I found it difficult to navigate between returns.. Have fund UFile as an example much easier to use and at a much more reasonable cost.

A couple more forms? $40 please.
A basic return with a couple forms for some small online investments takes it from a free service to a $40 service. Then, to add to that they try to upsell you again at least 6 times during the return process. Also there's questions about my spouse's net income... and she needs to know mine... yet neither of us has completed our return. How are we supposed to provide this information??

don't like the online version
i've used this software for years and its still easy to use but this was the first year i've had to use the online version as opposed to either using a CD or downloading the software. For some reason it charged me for 2 returns (I think) whereas ive never had to pay that before. Also, you can't view forms in the online version.

Could be better
T1135 functionality is as poor as paper filing/completing manually. Surely, asset/investment rollforward functionality can be incorporated. Also, the assets should be organized/presented for each spouse separately and then joint accounts - it's simple a laundry list akin to the phone book - very painful to use.
Foreign Income - rental income should have foreign address not Canadian address as described in the software.
Foreign Income - why would you allow the entry of capital gains/losses in a foreign slip and than require again later on under disposals just to force someone to delete the original foreign slip with the capital gain/loss reported to avoid duplicate reporting. Inefficient/poor design.
Would be amazing (i.e. meet basic expectations) if T1135 would carry forward interest or divs and cap gains into the determination of taxes.
Med expense - every year it says to cfwd the med expenses - every year I delete them all only to see my proposed refund decline and then I guess with trial and error which ones to re-enter. Room for improvement.
Would be much better to have a table of contents with the tslips or at least major summaries that are easier to access from the table of contents - always hunting and pecking.
Review process - I'm frustrated by the number of sales pitches to upgrade; I'm also frustrated that I seem to go through the review cycle 4 times for no apparent reason - in particular when I don't select the upgrade option.
Moving expenses should cfwd each year until a new income source is available to utilize. The software seems confused by this. Perhaps a simple confirmation that cfwd will continue until new income and related conditions are met.
the best price for the software should always be offered to returning customers not through gimmicks or other promotions.

Premier Tax
I used to buy Turbo Tax Basic with an activation code for 8 returns for $35 that worked on a MAC
Now forced up to Premier, but cannot find a Turbo Tax Edition for multiple returns with an activation code that works on a MAC.
Gone from paying $35 for 6 family returns to $35 for each one. 4 of them have minimal tax receipts.

I am a retired person, and you kept asking for a T4 income slip. I had to hunt for the T4A (P) and OAS, because you did not offer that up as an option automatically. I would like you to ask if people are retired, and then remove that T4 and replace with the T4P and OAS instead. This was an aggravating experience. Please make it easier for retired people.

BACK TO OFFLINE
I used the off line version for years and loved it. This year I got the online version buy mistake. I seemed to be fighting to do what I wanted. Next year I am buying the off line one and go back to the filling in forms and printing what I want. Could not print the forms that I wanted to save

had problems with purchase software code/overcharg
I paid for software. couldn't find how to load it. logged in on my profile and prepared taxes then was charged again. Also could not find how to open forms to update % of rental ownership. preferred to buy disc to download to my computer and I'd like my money back for the download I didn't use

Unfortunate packages
The product works great, but the new pricing did not work well for me. I had a single foreign investment with total investment income for the year worth less than the cost of the required upgrade to be able to enter the info into my return due to the paywall.

Editing Plan at the end
The frequent options for upgrading were confusing. I inadvertently upgraded to bundle and could not edit it at the end without starting a new file. Thus I had to pay for 2 plans.

Not as easy as previous years
I found the step by step process slower due to completing Turbo Tax online rather than downloading software. It also had trouble accessing myCRA. Had to attempt it 4 times before it worked.

Forced upsell
In this year's version of TurboTax, the software automatically forces you to use the Premier version of the software if you have investment income. In my past 15 years of experience, the added features of the Premier version are not necessary.

I was disappointed I had to pay to complete my tax return. The ability to qualify to complete the return for free are so restrictive that very few returns can be completed for free. Will be interesting to see the reactions from others when they make this discovery.

Disappointed had to upgrade
I have always used Intuit Turbotax but I was upset to have to upgrade in the middle of the process to the more expensive program to be able to add my wife's profit sharing. The profit sharing was a small amount but the up-cost of the program was significant!
