Only one flaw
I have been a user of Turbotax for many years. It has improved consistently over those years. However, I do not like the fact that I must file with Revenue Canada before I can get a pdf copy of my return. I always like to review my return in the pdf format before fining my return and the inability to do this is unwelcome.

Corrupted Data
Just as i was finishing my return it corrupted my data. I had to start again and refile. I was charged twice for filing and now i have to try to get my money back from Intuit.

Premier is NOT worth it
Do not upgrade to Premier as it is no different from Standard. You do not get any extra expert tax advice. When I tried to ask for the advice I was promised, I was told I needed to upgrade again. Save your money and just Google your questions or contact CRA.

Not great for capital gains
Turbo Tax is OK for very very simple returns.
In 2017, I had capital gains on the sale of equities. Turbo Tax gave incomplete and misleading instructions for entering Adjusted Cost Base. I consulted the Turbo Tax telephone help line several times. They had no idea what I was asking. I gave it my best guess, and entered the information where I thought it should go. I was mistaken. As a result, my capital gain was recorded twice. My taxable income went up, incorrectly. I had to spend hours on the phone with CRA and months waiting for the correction to be made. I do not recommend Turbo Tax if you have capital gains to report.

This site started out as an easy software to use but over the years it has become very hard to follow. The set up is great however the execution for someone who does not have an accounting background needs work.

Deceitful Protection Purchase
I have used Turbo Tax for the past five years but this is the first time I have ever had a negative experience. It had nothing to do with the preparation, calculation or organizing of my tax return, which was as smooth and efficient as it has always been, but rather with the process of purchasing Audit Defense protection when it was time to file. I have always opted for the standard Audit Defense package, but this year the online software misled me into a forced purchase of the more expensive Primary Premium Pack as there did not appear to be any alternative purchase options for audit protection. The main website contains no references to this product offering and I feel like I was held hostage into purchasing it when I didn't want it, and of course there is no way to downgrade after purchasing. While it may be only $10 more, the fact that I was forced into buying a more expensive product that I did not want felt like a cash grab on Turbo Tax's part and truly ended my experience this year on a sour note. The experience is compounded by the fact that it is not readily advertised as a standard product offering, so customers are not able to make informed choices on their level of audit protection.

Find an Accountant
Product was much more thorough and easier to use in previous years. This year's version requires one to undertake additional research and spend additional time to complete tax submission.

No Totally Helpful
My wife gets income on a T4A, has self-employed side-job income, and we bought a rental in 2017.
Her income gets TurboTax sideways every year. Last year, CRA told us we owed thousands more after using TurboTax. TurboTax was useless for us as first time rental owners this year.
TurboTax is better than nothing. It would be good for people who only get T4 income, and rent or own a house. We can only hope that things went better this year. We're considering a CA next year.

No Senior Option
I do tax returns for several seniors because I have a finance background and believe I should help those in need. In the past, I was able to do 8 returns under the one purchase price. As one of the largest providers of online service with Netfile capabilities, I believe Intuit can afford to increase the ceiling for free returns which is currently total income $25,000 or less. Seniors who earn $30,000-$35,000 are still barely able to get by.

Just Passable
Awkward to use software. Lots of repeat steps. Help on specific topics difficult to access. For example, if you are on a page, say T5008. clicking help should take you to help regarding T5008. It doesn't. You need to search to get to the relevant topic. While in help the screen is blanked out so you can't directly follow the instructions. You need to exit help. Then if you have additional questions you need to go back into help and search all over again. It doesn't even return to where you left off.
To me this is just basic stuff that's lacking.

Not so great with a Mac & Pension Splitting
It's a shame that I can't recommend this software if you have a Mac and need to look ant pension income splitting. There are bugs with the buttons regarding splitting which once splitting is selected it's almost impossible to get data without pension data being split. I wasted 4 or 5 hours trying to find a solution to this bug.
Otherwise the application is simple to use.
They just don't really care about Mac users. Don't even offer a download, or dvd for Macs. Must go to them online.

ALMOST straight forward
I'd say you're like 70% dummy proof. Especially when it comes to taxes, people get VERY confused and anxious. I think you could go even further in the prompts and maybe add an "i don't know" button to some of the yes/no questions.

Weak Product
Using TurboTax online with a Mac. Unable to find the forms method which made it very difficult to see what was happening. Felt like running blind and very unnerving. Been doing my own taxes in various countries for over 20 years and never had this issue before.

Sometimes confusing
Found it difficult to navigate back to make changes.
Ended up on the Premier site when I really only required the standard which costs less.
Overall a good program which I have now used for several years.
I will use it again but pay more attention to which I am on and make sure I am on the standard one.

Errors
Have used TT for many years, always fine till this year. Errors with child fitness credit that could not be explained. Numerous calls to TT and escalation to higher levels of service. In the end told to ignore and was able to Netfile. No real explanation as to why the error code and a hugh waste of time for me and TT personnel.

For Apple Users -DON'T USE THIS
The worst case of linking your file to a location for Netfile to "pick up". I spent a day trying to get it. I phoned INDIA for help. They aren't Apple users. I read the instructions and tried so many times. CRA hung up on me- she wasn't an Apple user. Finally, I phoned CRA after dinner and a very patient young woman who really knew computers and pathways finally made the linkage and we did the Netfile. I will never use TurboTax again. Your instructions were worse than useless!

It was hard to figure out the Capital loss section and how to apply capital losses from previous years.
It would have bee great to see functionality similar to that of the RSP contribution bar where you can move a 'Captial Loss' bar and view the difference it would make on your Tax Return.
