Not so pleased this year
I've used Turbotax for well over 10 years. This is the first year I noticed grammatical and spelling errors in the program. Some of the wording in statements was missing something and caused issues with understanding the instruction. Frustrating.
Found help vague and possibly missing information I felt should have been there. Never was able to transfer my returns from online to use with my desktop version. Not much for help on it, even in the community info. Not impressed this year and I have another to do.

Getting worse
The interconnectivity and the missed connections are dreadful when trying to review the information you have input - you literally have to go through all the steps again to find the buried screen holding the original content you need to adjust.

TurboTax Premier
I've been using TT Premier since my dad passed in 2014 (who also used TT) and found it to be quite good as it walks you through all the forms. This was the first year I got some odd (to me) warnings to review that didn't really make any sense.

See my previous comment for the way Turbo Tax complicated the process for reporting capital gains in 2024. TT should have updated their software to not require a Period 1 vs Period 2 split.

Good Choice
Overall no issues
In the profile, when asked if you had deduction for public transit, best to say no because it will bring up the form but you don;'t use that form. Just wait until the Ontario section asks you automatically, and then enter you Presto amount.
Good program but takes a few years to become used to all the little things

Turbo Tax Premier Desktop
Good software but would be better if they brought in the exchange rates for stocks T5008. Would also be good if you could import stock transactions to Turbo tax instead of manually entering them.

ok for net file but not great for print and post
I complete 2 returns - one for me another for my partner and we net file and it all went quite smooth. I filed another for our 17 year old who works part time and doesnt have a CRA account set up yet so we wanted to print and send it. When it came time to printing it didn't give me the address where to send it. Also after I had printed it - it was confusing as it was asking if I wanted to file even though I have it printed. This could use some changes.

overall a good product
2024 tax year was challenging, I have several investments and I could not submit due to CRA issues with mid year and end of year reporting of investment income. Once the issue was fully understood, I was able to make the necessary changes and submit. Turbo tax online support was of limited help.

the errors. Resolving errors is made more difficult as the process reverts to top of error
page (particularly frustrating when searching
for simple errors when one has several hundred T5008 transactions). Why not set the
default to Capital Gains?

No other choice
If I have other choice better than TurboTax, then I will try it. Annoying glitches still existed, e.g. no way for the husband to log off from CRA after data transfer, then my wife cannot log on to CRA to transfer data on my computer

No worry product
Just fill in personal information and then report income and expenses. The apps will take care of tax calculations like personal credits/allowances, deductions and transfer from dependents etc.

Workable program that has some bugs that will only affect taxpayers with unique investments. Eg. Cumulative losses from previous years can only be input with an override on line 17400 of Schedule 3. As well Form T1170 does not work for Capital Property donations. The Charitable Donation optimizer does not optimize the donation amounts to be shared between spouses and you need to override the amount to be used by your spouse.

Certain function does not work properly
The product automatically claims CWB when your income meets the requirement and does not allow you to choose, it should make the election optional rather than a MUST because people may elect not to claim the benefit for some reason

CD versus Online
This year was very confusing; bought Software at Costco which I have done for years and then found out that I had an online version that included the CD. This CD can not be activated with the activation code supplied. Activation code can only be used for Online use of product. This limits use of forms mode w2hich I use for parts of my return. Very confusing. Fortunately Costco takes return of merchandise without question. Later went to Staples and got CD version I was looking for. Total waste of my time and not appreciated. Will use product again but will be very careful that I find CD version before purchase.
