End User Advice
The programs seems to be getting more complicated with less background information. I am not clear if this is a result of Revenue Canada complications or Intuit but the programs seem more applicable for paid tax processors than the average person doing their taxes with some investment data to report. My return was also constantly starting over with questions I already answered. Perhaps using the book marks would have helped but in other years I could navigate much easier. I would still recommend the program.

Easy to use

Mostly good, with a few flaws
The easy step process generally works well, and the ability to import slips from the CRA is a big time saver. The import capability has been available for a few years, but I was not able to use it due to a limit on the number of T5008 that could be imported. However, every transaction in the T5008 list in the EasyStep process needs to be updated to indicate the type of income is horrible!

NON RESIDENT
The software should allow Non Residents to file electronically and submit info as needed. I use TurboTax for many years.

I love using Quicktax but I am always disappointed in the HELP system. I find I use Google when I have questions about how to do something.

Limited OS
You need to make the online down load available to Chrome OS. Purchased and Down Loaded could not use. Had to fire up my old Dinosaur

very good stay, I will come again
I have been using the Turbo Tax for 10+ years. Due to Government rules it has become more cumbersome even with this software. The tax filing should be made easier by Government.

Pretty good...
Worked well even for self-employment, and lots of investments.
Some problems with fixing errors that were not really errors. Supposed to include the feature to decide when to start CPP pension, but it was greyed out and wouldn't work.

Be Early
The Turbotax folks are very helpful, but in the last week before taxes are to be submitted they are very busy. Don't wait until the last moment to file your taxes.

Last year "Stocks" was part of the Basic version, now they pushed you to the Premier version for the stocks, very cheap way to force public to buy higher version. Lost a customer

Late Bugs Spoil the Show
I have been using TurboTax and its predecessor for at least 25 years and have always found it easy to use. This year there were three major problems that must be addressed, that telephone technical assistance could not help with:
1/the wrong return was being printed
2/the system was constantly freezing in the printing/filing stage
3/required information was not allowed to be entered because it did not match TurboTax's requirement (value had to be greater than zero)
4/the F2 override function was not available.

Good for Rentals / Investments
I've been using TurboTax for years and it works well for me. I have multiple rentals, dividend stocks, bonds and earned income. I use a combination of EasyStep interview to get started and the forms view to enter and check / audit my progress for several sections. There are search functions and links to CRA documents so you can easily research a topic to ensure you are getting the most out of a deduction but are following the rules as specified. It has a thorough review to catch errors and recommends additional steps or checks to ensure my return is complete and accurate. I recommend this product if you want to complete your own taxes and get some help on the way!

Good Product
The package is easy to use with its EasyStep process. The detailed forms are also available so you can see exactly what is being provided to CRA. Optimizers and tips are also provided to help minimize the tax owing as far as possible.

turbo reliable but no mac dowloadable version
I have used turbo tax for years and always use the forms entry option. I recently changed to an apple MAC computer from a PC based computer and found the only way i could access turbo tax was through an online filing version that did not have an option to input from forms. There is no Apple MAC version that can be downloaded and installed on a MAC. I did not like the online version so resorted to doing the taxes on my old windows PC. Turbo tax is a good product on the PC but a lousy product when you own an apple MAC.

i have a very basic tax set up with the exception of a rental property. The price jump between the different versions is quite high compared to the version i would use if i did not have a rental. however the software does work well.

Ups and Downs of Turbo Tax
Turbo Tax certainly beats doing taxes on paper forms! We have been using it for 11 years.
We would have had a better experience this time however if we had imported the 2020 data. We overlooked this because it was a page down on our screen and it was not intuitive to page down. Partly our fault but perhaps a potential program improvement for next year.
My only other issue was that it was not easy to figure out how to input a terminal loss on depreciable equipment.
This year was one of the most complicated taxes we've ever done. Bottom line Turbo Tax was a life saver!

Can't transfer from online to download
Used download Turbo Tax for years, but for some reason used online for 2020 and very frustrated this year that info could not be transferred to the 2021 download version. This fact should be shared on purchase of online version.

Good but could be better
Still major deficiencies in data entry, you can paste into some forms but not sub-forms.
Not running on Windows 7 is a pain as I have to run Windows 10 virtual machine just for this program.
Some of the optimizing tools don't seem to work, and it would be nice to have one 'optimize' button that did them all so I don't have to iterate thru them and their interactions.

Good but some suggestions
The program is easy to use and handles fairly complicated financial profiles, with many types of investments, foreign ownership, etc.
I think it could be improved by making the review and editing of T5008's more user friendly when there are a large number (50+).
Currently you have to save one line at a time and the program goes back to the top again. For each item to edit, you have to scroll down to the next item. This is very time consuming when there are over 100 transactions.

Six returns - one key glitch
Mostly amazing; getting better each year. The import feature is great. However, Gov has all that info so would be nice if the they stop tormenting millions of citizens by making us go through this each year. Give us the official results for individuals to accept or adjust. Did have a glitch with the program, though. Somehow after completing a dependent's claim, that person become stuck in the cache (or something like that) as the main-tax-preparer. Took some time to resolve.

T5008 errors
Bank provided T5008 data randomly left blank instead of being designated Capital Gain. Very difficult to rectify with over 300 transactions to check.

Good value, easy to use
The only problem I had was Netfileing a return for a person who moved during the tax year and retained his old mailing address. The program wouldn't netfile the return because the info on record with CRA was different.

great...BUT
I like the program and have used it for years. It is very terrible in one large respect...wh you print your netfile confirmation and it wastes 3 extra sheets of paper when only one is neded. Please correct this and stop contributing to the destruction of trees.
