Still needs work
I love TurboTax and have used it or QuickTax prior to the changeover. There are still problems with some links. I will click on a number that has appeared on my T1 cover, but the link doesn't show me where the number actually came from or how it was calculated.

German Pensions
The information on where to add the German Pension into the TurboTax needs to be reviewed. I am 80+ and have been using Turbo Tax Standard for a few years now for the pension optimizer. Before I begin, I do the taxes using the CRA forms by hand, then compare the results from Turbo Tax. The pension information is not being added on the appropriate Revenue Canada form fields, so I have been overriding the amounts in the actual forms before submitting.

Problems
with T1135 and unable to enter additional rows. Unsure whether or not OK to netfile the T1135 even if CRA would accept it. Also unclear whether or not OK to delete the t5008s.

Pretty Slick Program

Tax on Split Income Info
I prepared 4 returns and on each one I indicated that TSOI did not apply. In each case, the eight pages of the NIL return was sent by NETFILE, and also printed out in the file copy. A WASTE OF 32 PAGES OF PAPER.

Problem in 2018
This year (2018) I had trouble getting the software to deduct the correct medical expense number. The system automatically selects the applicable dates for the period that expenses are deductible, which did not provide the maximum deduction. I had to override dates on the maximization work sheet to get the correct amount for deduction.
Not sure why this happens.

Worthwhile
This is a good program, especially the EasyStep which insures you enter all the necessary information. The price is about what you might pay a tax preparer to do a simple return. If your return is more complicated and you have a good idea of what to do to prepare your return, you'll save money but you will also spend a bit of time which you might prefer to spend on the golf course!

Audit Defense issue
Tried to purchase Audit Defense after filing only because I missed any warning that it must be purchased BEFORE filing. I was specifically looking for this and then spent much wasted time going around in circles.

Need to brush up each year for this
Good product, but for the person like me that only looks at this stuff once per year we need to brush up on the software every year as it seems you need to have a pretty good grasp on all the CRA forms and tax sections before starting your return.

The option that reads, "No, I don't use direct deposit or my direct deposit info hasn't changed" should be split into two distinct options ("No, I don't use direct deposit" and "No, my direct deposit info hasn't changed") to avoid confusing users.

Saves paper
I used to have a tax account do my taxes and noted he made a few mistakes. Although with investments you are still required to do your own calculations (US dividends & Capital Gains), using the quick fill forms helps speed up things.

DON'T FILL IN T5008 USE SCHEDULE 3 UNTIL CRA MODIF
all went well except I filled in t5008 as best as I could and found on my final copy that I didn't have any credit for my losses ie after I had already submitted [filed my return], re reading instructions anD chat sessions with help were not any help so I filled in schedule 3 and low and behold there were all my losses recorded and showed an increased refund but can't find out how to resubmit a modified file? before deadline

Good Way to Do Taxes
Bought the Turbo Tax Premier at Costco like last year. Easy to use. Very hepful tax accountant that we purchased on their online service - James from Quebec. TurboTax needs to keep him every year. Super helpful and reduced our income tax owing by $2K.
Only area I would improve is the phone in service to connect with an accountant to review your TurboTax return. I phoned four times and had to go through the same five questions (email, name, phone number etc) with a computer generated voice. How can this be skipped after one time?

Help info needs work
I found TurboTax very good over all but there are a couple places were it could be improved. Most notably, the help info for self-employment income. TurboTax required an industry code for the income but did not include the codes. A link was provided to the Stats Canada site but it resulted in an Error 404. Finally, I was able to track the information down in the Taxes section of the Canada.ca web site but the code I selected (611000) did not satisfy the program when I tried a different code (611710) the program was satisfied; however, both are valid industry codes.
Other than that, it would be nice to be able access a breakdown of cumulative amounts that are added together on a line (ie line 212) when the amount shown is drawn from more than one source; this would greatly facilitate accuracy checking.
