Good Purchase
The product is easy to use and is improving every year. It will be nice if they could provide online chat support when we need to confirm something. I understand this is costly but will be nice to have.

Not Always User Friendly
Like this survey above already - Why show Easy to use rating besides trying to figure out oh yea the small stars changed color??
Have someone with minor computer skills review the program. Used Premier with easy steps. Like where do I go from here-i don't want to connect? I will try preview and maybe I can send it or find continue???

Helps if you know the Tax Act
Using the Premier Edition there were several sections that were unclear and there really was no help in the auto fill forms. An example is adding capital gains that did not receive a T5008. With shared returns it turns out I had to manually calculate the 50% share for the gain(loss) as the 50% that had been set up in the T5008 did not apply and there were no clues to indicate it.
Otherwise once you have done your preparation the actual tax preparation was hopefully done correctly.

More features possible?
As a Turbo Tax subscriber and an on line investor I find return of capital (ROC) is my biggest concern when calculating gains and losses. It would be very beneficial if Turbo Tax could have the ability to track the ROC for each security and bring the accumulated amount forward each year. This would provide an easier system for calculating the adjusted cost base of sold securities.

Optimizers could be better
Overall, Turbo Tax is a good product. The main issue I have is that is does not have an overall optimizer, only single stream optimizers. For example, I had to manually optimize my charitable donations in conjunction with the pension splitter to get the best tax return scenario. I found that I was not getting full value for my charitable donations and Turbo Tax was not recommending a carry-over to the next taxation year. I had to do this all manually in a spreadsheet to determine which scenario would give me the best tax return for this year and what I should carry-over and what the pension splitting should be.

Awesome software!

Solid tax program
I've used Turbo Tax for many years and it's always done the job for me. I have some complicated investments and a rental property and it can handle it. Only problem encountered this year was trying to get an answer to a question I had about loss carrybacks. Could not get one from the online community and trying to contact Turbo Tax directly was near impossible. I finally figured it out on my own.....I think!

Quick and easy
Quick and easy, the only issue I have with it is that after you netfile the return with the CRA the software doesn't make it obvious that you are done, you get stuck in this infinite loop of pages with "Continue" buttons that make you think maybe you're not done yet.

Easy Step Really Works!
Provided you identify your income and expense profiles correctly, turbo tax does a good job of steering you through the required inputs for the best possible return. However, if you miss ticking off a box in the profile question at the start of each section, Turbotax will exclude the associated tax forms and will not ask for the inputs involved. That can be confusing and should be one of the first places to look if you are not asked for inputs you were expecting to provide. In my view, when saving for retirement, one should use all your TFSA headroom before contributing to your RRSP's. The treatment in TurboTax seems o give preferrence to RRSPs

Great, but you can improve
I've been using your product for over a decade, and will continue to use it since I believe it truly helps me get the best return possible.
However, since I've used it so often I have a suggestion. CRA has a ridiculously convoluted and antiquated method for us tax payers to report Depreciable properties (form T777) - as you know these are things we purchase which we use for work, which we can depreciate over the years. As a work from home employee, itemizing these in my return makes a great impact in my final tax tally. The issue is that your product does nothing to simplify this endeavor. No wizard, no explanation, no help. You simply mimic the horrible design outlined by CRA before computers were invented. So my suggestion would be to include a T777 form helper wizard, to allow us users to correctly determine which product codes to use.

paper everywhere
the CRA download is just fabulous, although lots of t5008 do not specify income type and the software wants it. wasted more than an our trying to get about 200 t508 entries right and they were wrong so re-downloaded the whole thing from CRA again.

Still has bugs
I've been using TurboTax (and QuickTax before that) for more than 20 years. It was great, originally, because it worked so smoothly with Microsoft Windows. You could move data easily from other apps into the tax software--just copy and paste.
I've provided comments on previous versions. While it mostly works; there has usually been something about each year's version that isn't quite right. To the company's credit, I've actually seen later versions with fixes or improvements that I had suggested. (Quite likely, many other users had made similar suggestions.)
So this year's version (2018) is still a bit buggy.
1. For some unknown reason, the registration page would not print to my printer, even though the printer dialog box showed the printer was "Ready". Once inside the tax forms, I could print these with no problem. Then again, at the NETFILE page, I could not print the confirmation screen. What a nuisance.
2. The Detailed Tax Summary has always been a great help. Its something that I always print off and put away with my tax documents, each year. There are two ways to use this feature:
(a.) It prints a separate column for you and your spouse; or
(b.) It prints your data for current year and the previous year.
This time (2018 Tax Year), the (b.) version, above, pulls up erroneous data that does not correspond with the previous year's data. It is obviously garbage data, because I have last year's reports to compare; and this feature always worked in the past. Now where did that bug come from, for 2018?
Printing out incorrect numbers is unacceptable for tax-preparation software! I really don't think the package is worth the money, anymore. Quite disappointing for such a long-running product, to see the quality diminishing.
In case you want to know, I am a retired research engineer, growing up with the microcomputer evolution. I am not pretending to know everything about computers, today; but look at the trouble the industry is getting into: Canada's Phoenix Pay System; Boeing's 737 Max; self-driving cars that crash. Lots of scope for the next generation of computer scientists! Good luck, guys and gals!

It's OK
I had some issues this year, unlike many previous years - for example, for one of our family returns I needed an NAICS industry code - the instructions said to use the TurboTax one. but not available! Went to the CRA instead.

Foreign Property nuisance
I'm a long time user of Quick/Turbo Tax so obviously I find it works fine and is worth the price. This year I tried very hard to find ways to fill in T1135 form as CRA expects with a breakout by country but I never could find out how. The closest was an input that I could find extra lines required from TurboTax Online, but that seemed to necessitate me starting my inputs again from scratch. Your Help was useless and you never responded to my Contact Us note. I input my CRA forms manually because I found two years ago TurboTax couldn't handle all my forms and CRA used different formatting/consolidatioin online from mailed forms and it was a nightmare to verify what had been downloaded and where TurboTax had run out of space. Beyond those two glitches, I love TurboTax.

Turbo Tax Edition Change
Last couple of years, used Standard Edition. This year I required Premier Edition. Did not get normal Open Previous Year Return. Will be going back to Standard Edition next year. Will this happen again, as I would not have to fill in but merely confirm personal identity? Perhaps the two editions are quite separate.

ok in general. but fix the following problems.
-not allowed ot enter the instalment payment data on line 476.
-Address of outside canada not taking.
- some places date format is confusing, like date of entry to canada and date of departure from canada, then they still ask the question if you were a resident of ontario on 31st dec. if you keft the cointry, how can you be a resident still?? so give an option for being a resident out side canada too on 31st dec.
- create a schedule 3 for US traded stocks, so that we can put in the average value of us dollar rate, and it automatically converts gains/losses to canadian dollars. under the current system, i have to do manually and enter the data in canadian dollars. if you make many trades, this is a pain. so fix it please as an option of US traded stcoks schedule 3.

I am using Turbotax for 15 years at a friend's Window Computer. I sent several emails to TURBOTAX asking questions on how to use my MAC computer at home. I have NEVER received a response. I have rated Turbotax with 4*, since I have never used another software.

Good Value Tax software
Have been using TurboTax software now for about 10 years and have been quite happy with overall results. It seems to be getting more complicated, likely because taxes are getting more complicated to do. This was first year in 10 where I had to call in for help with 1 item. When some T-slips are imported from CRA if some of them were missing information on them, the software was not terribly helpful in letting you know that. This was related to capital gains or investment income with T5008 forms. Calling in helped to solve the problem but it should have been unnecessary. Other than that I'm quite happy.

Turbotax Premier
Overall the product is good and does the job well. The only criticism is the lack of autosave. Filled in personal info and got to download of tax info from CRA. That screwed up (probably my fault) and I had not saved. Had to go back and start from beginning.
Don't understand why it did not pick up the personal info. from previous year's returns.
