Good program but found some errors
Problem with CCA classification regarding treatment of acquisition and disposal of class 10.1 assets--program incorrectly recorded a recapture of depreciation back into income and because of an over-ride which even CRA approved of, program would not let me Netfile.

Changes
Generally good. A go to every year. Love the auto-fill from CRA and the pulling information/forms from the year before. The easy method has facilitated our rental income and deductions. Our son had his first t4. I prefer using the forms method but it did not have "single" available for the profile.

T5 splitting
Turbo Tax allows you to split T5 income. What was not clear, was that my wife and I both received identical T5s for the same joint income. You have to only enter one T5 and split the income 50%. If you do the same for each T5, even though you select the 50%, you effectively double your investment income.

OK for what it does
I've used Turbo Tax for many years. It is OK but has several annoying limitations:
1. Every medical receipt, charitable donation and capital gain or loss has to be entered manually with multiple fields for each entry. I have about 100 of these in total, so this is a real agony. Since I keep these records in spreadsheets throughout the year, it would be much much much more convenient to dump the spreadsheet table into the software. Sadly, because Turbo Tax doesn't come out until year end, it is impossible to enter this info directly in at each date when it occurs, as I do with my spreadsheets.
2. Most of the warnings done in final review have nothing to do with me.

Need better handling of tax-exempt foreign pension
Possibly extra fields in the foreign income entry form for tax-exempt foreign pension. This could then fill out the FTC forms, add the amounts to Line 256, and adjust the pension splitting amount.

Good but with problems
Overall easy to use. One problem was in easy step when submitting percentage of partnership for real estate rentals. The Co-ownership selection needed a partnership percentage amount to continue in Netfile even though it was not a partnership which was confusing. T776

Too much previous knowledge is assumed by the prog
I guess if you have a very simple return this would be a fairly good choice.
I have a basement suite and this is the first time I have used a tax program. Context sensitive help is glaringly notable by its absence. If you do not understand a term it is up to you to find out what it means and how to fill it out.

Glad to Use It for 3+yrs
I have used this program fro the 3+ years and could not do our taxes without it. I found 2018 tax year harder to understand some of the changes and the changes in the forms - so speaks someone who used to do the taxes the old way - no more

still takes time
CRA auto fill still relies on CRA having all the T slips, so you still have to check that against your T slips. It is annoying especially if you are trying to do your return quickly/early. Also it does not automatically split T3,4, and 5's 50% with you partner which means you have to go into every t slip and do this

Windows interface a bit clunky
Used TurboTax now for coming on 10 years. In general I find it easy to use, but have noticed over the last couple of years that the forms interface doesn't scale well on Windows 10. which is annoying
A couple of examples
In forms view titles are in tiny font, which I can't increase & also bottom of screen get blocked by status bar - which means I have to disable status bar while using it.

Need Better Feedback Portal
Have experienced 2 bugs in Premier version, yet Support was unable to accept my screen shots, only text. ITC value incorrectly transferred from previous year and 2017 version erroneously displayed a higher tax owing simply when reaccessing ON248 and T1General screens. Paid Revenue Canada the high tax, then was refunded later.

T5008 data
T5008 and other data slips were submitted to CRA electronically. On printing my return, I found that the capital gain/loss data from the T5008 had NOT been entered. I went back to the T5008 input sheet, entered the fact that it registered "capital gains" (I had ignored this question the first time), and then found that the correct data was entered. Is this a glitch?

Very useful, but there is a learning curve!
Have used for several years. There is a learning curve, since lots of irrelevant screens, for most people, but I suppose is necessary for completeness, and to catch outliers. Could improve by having subsections that you enter only if relevant to your tax situation. Overall very useful, since I can complete and file without being in the country.My Account with CRA necessary, but now must become authorized rep even for spouse in order to download their tax info. Also joint account info will not download to your own if no authorization for your spouse!

Used for 10+ years
Like being able to switch between the easy & forms methods and the pension splitting tool. Trouble sometimes in using the help function to understand tax rules. Forms down load from CRA to turbo tax did not work. Seems to be a lot of forms for a print file copy.

Pretty efficient
Given the investment resulting Capital gains, dividends, and interest; turbotax Premier did a good job at putting it all together.
Problems: CRA may not have all your info wrt T3 and T5008; worst some were erroneous and it was more difficult then expected to make corrections in turbotax. Terminology remains a challenge.
Turbotax should come also in French or better bilingual for cross-examination.
PS: There are french people outside Quebec!

Pretty good, except....
I have been using Turbo Tax for a number of years. I am glad to see the software is improving each year. There is still room for improvement. e.g. The name and address of the co-owner of each rental property got written out every time a back button is pressed. Those information should be kept if user just wants to go back and review the numbers.

It could be better, little disappointed this year
I've used Turbo Tax in the past, and it was better than this year's version (2018). This year's version has a bad knack of being repetitive (it happened like 3 times), which was particularly annoying. Should simplify area for investors, it is more convoluted than last year's version (which is surprising, since it should be the opposite).

Why Not Available for Macs
Used this product for years on the only Windows based PC in the family. Every tax season have to reacquaint myself with the PC - waste of my precious time. And do I really want to replace my verging on unreliable PC just to do tax returns? If no Mac version, why not make the online version the same as the desk top version. I want to be able to toggle between my forms and Easy Prep as some decisions can only be made with direct info from the tax forms. Come on Turbo Tax!

Solid Tax Software
TurboTax is almost a joy to use. Admittedly I am hooked because of the ease of importing year over year, but it's also a time saver, which is great. I find the price for Premier to be a little high, but I suppose it becomes a business expense for those who need to buy it. Overall, I'm a fan.
