Need better help and support
Some of the instructions in the Easy Step method aren't quite clear. The Support and Help options aren't much better. Netfile option was much easier in 2018 but I couldn't purchase the tax review option because it was sold out by early April? Really? Disappointing performance on that one.

Transfer from Previous year and help
There was no transfer of all out tax info from previous year that TurboTax used to do. We had to all the info all over again! On context help is not helpful or effective. Support group hard access quickly. Answers from tax professionals should be compiled in detail and be easily available to access.

Autofill on Medical Expense Form
In completing the medical claims section, there are many repeating items, for example the doctors name, the patient's name and the source of the medication, generally a pharmacy. The program should allow for an initial of the name be entered and autofill completes the rest. This would be a great time saver.

Options
There are places such as Net Filing where you offer to set up an account. There is no option if you already have an account with CRA. The same with automatic deposit. On my account I have had auto deposit for as long as I can remember.
There were one or 2 similar instances.

Less user friendly!
1. When saving the pdf for my returns (all forms) I have to click on each form - there needs to be an "all forms" option!! Not friendly!
2. When sharing my T5008 with my spouse, the T form only shows overall totals and it's for me. But the sharing does work! - it's confusing!
3. When I called for support on item 2, I was routed to the US (I live in Canada). Each call I got a different phone number for Canada, which didn't work!. It took 3 calls to get a Canadian phone number, which may be correct - I was so frustrated I didn't call the last one given! Also not friendly for Canadians! Please provide a Canadian number for Canadian users!!

FAIRLY EASY SOME ISSUES
The original net file was quite easy. Though I found out I had made some errors in claiming capital gains. In trying to do the changes for a filed return, I found I could not print a copy for the CRA as I needed to mail it in. I kept getting a "duplicate, do not mail copy",

Premier edition
More complicated than previous years.

TurboTax 2018
Excellent product. Expert help was patient, knowledgeable and friendly. Bought Premier version through a store, but my laptop does not have a CD download. This should not have been a problem, although I had done a portion of my return online before a TurboTax expert told me I should find the correct entry for store-bought product registration. I started my return three times but after breaks, I could never get back to the part of the return that I had completed. In the end I completed my entire return in one sitting and managed to file it successfully. Hallelujah and thanks, Turbo! Would like to have had return checked by 'live' expert, but Turbo website had message "We're sorry! We're having technical issues on our end. Please check back in a bit. We should have things up and running again soon." That message was there for several days. I had to send return in for expert to check online. That was OK. Anyway, thanks turbo - much better than trying to do it all myself!

Saves a lot of time.

Only one thing...
Make a MAC Version of the software. I hate having to use a computer running Windows. And please don't inform me that MAC users can complete their returns on-line. THAT is NOT an option!!!

Premier Version
The Premier version is very useful and I have been using it for a few years. However, improvements can still be made in the following:
1. Why is the T-5008 summary limited to 30 transactions? If you have more than 30 transactions, you will have to find your way into the Form and enter the items (e.g. investment type). Otherwise, an error will keep coming up and prevent you from filing. A TurboTax support expert could not identify this as a solution to the error and I had to struggle to find the solution.
2. Once you entered certain information in the tax profile, you can not easily delete the form even though later on you find that the form is not required.

2nd year is better
I had difficulty the first time particularly entering T-5008 transactions, foreign income etc. The second time around I think I got it right. Its tedious to write in Capital Gain for every transaction too bad I can't check beside each on the T-5008 list and enter "same for all". Also some check box reminder I edited that one on the list would be helpful. Thank you for the service.

needs one improvement
My biggest complaint is the inability to delete things no longer needed. For example, rental income from two properties stopped years ago, and I can find no easy way to stop these blank forms from being part of my annual tax completion process, and to prevent the empty pages from printing.

Easier every year
The product evolves but remains familiar enough that you don't have to learn new things every year. What has changed is the interaction with CRA. Gone are the days of entering incorrect data on incorrect lines. You lose a little understanding of all the tax changes but it is a lot simpler than it used to be.

product is good could be better
I have used this product for years, It is fine. However my wife and I share all of our investment income. YOU HAVE MADE IT EASY TO SHARE income on T3'S AND T5S by use of % allocation but capital gains have to be delineated stock by stock for each person, doubling the work. When I started using the product there was a way to copy one person's info onto the other's file, but it doesn't work anymore. Can't you fix this?

Very useful
I did my taxes with paper and calculator first and using this product as a test I caught a mistake which would have gone against me in the end. BUT doing it on paper also helped me catch an error I made entering data later. So be very careful when you type your numbers in!

Becoming too much work
Turbotax has over the years descended into becoming an automated tax form filler where you need to be a tax lawyer/accountant, and has lost the plain English (for example, what the heck is a, "20(11) deduction"?.
The CRA download works, but the results are scarily complicated and incomplete, which TurboTax does not handle well (T3, T5, and esp the T5008).

The interface to the CRA is klugy and does not work well at all. If there are any errors in signing on to the site, turbotax hangs without response. you can get out only after hitting escape many times and waiting for TT to respond, frustrating.

For entering T5008 information why is the Quantity of securities asking for dollar value. Also if you go back when entering to correct form will not move forward only opens a new entry.
Entering medical expenses has the same problem to me in that you can only go back in the entries but cannot move forward again. Other than this doing taxes was relatively easy.

One item that I noticed could be improved upon is where you click the tax credits that you can apply for. Anyone filing taxes for first time and not up to date with taxes would not know to click on provincial tax credit. There should be an explanation above on what would be automatically applicable and to what income level.

Darn good and easy to use. It is good value for money.

Rentals are flaky
Rental entries duplicate without notice and even if I enter co-ownership and 50% ownership it sometimes calculates that the entire profit or loss is on one return. It would be easier to have one entry with an 'allocate at 50% to each person' option. Other than that, this is a great application.
