good value
Turbo Tax is a pretty good way to file. And the price isn't bad either. It is more economical with TT than public programs on the street-very important at tax time!! Filing in the comfort of my home is great-can be done all at once or bits at a time.

overall good
Mild to moderate annoyance - certain things do not save or revert if go back into them. medical expenses reverting to spouse if go in and edit /add/ even look at them. even after the program wizard has optimised for one partner. The same with the rental property - every time i go into it i have to put in the percentage of co-ownership it reverts to 0%.

Works well
Seemed improved over last year, with easier transfers between EasyStep and Forms and back. Still needs work to allow splitting of forms such as T5008 which are joint income or joint expenses.

Good for basic return - complex returns confusing
I liked the feature of being able to import all my forms from CRA into TurboTax. Handles the basics well. I struggled with investment income and capital gains/losses. I had to re-enter info that I entered earlier and it was not clear to me how a capital loss would be applied to a previous year's capital gain. I did this but don't know what happened...

Made Taxation Easier to Handle
It is very good however the primary areas you could improve are the investment reporting. You do not provide clear explanations of items nor do you have them covered in "?". I had to go out on the internet for simple things like the abbreviations used for reporting like PTI, SHS and so on. Two sections of the reporting (T5008 + Shares and Mutual Fund Summary) appear to be the same thing? But all in all it is getting much easier to file a return ... Thanks

No Product Loyalty to Customers
Returning customers should get credit for years using the system. Can't wait for a good competitor. I will remember nobody cared if I was loyal.

Needs a few tweaks
If the Intuit Co. could figure out a way to carry forward the real estate supplier info from the real estate statement it would save a lot of time not having to re- input all the supplier info required by the MRQ.

confusing income splitting
there is no indicator that you have to file a return together in order for the optimizer to work. i had to call turbo tax to get the ans.

Program is satisfactory for my purposes. Perhaps program could allow percentage distribution of capital gains for joint assets as opposed to recording capital gains for each partner.

Still some awkward features, after all these years
Turbotax is a fantastic product, which I have used for years. It has many very convenient features, but nevertheless there are still some annoying aspects.
- There should be a prompt to ask whether the taxpayer wants CCA calculated for their property, rather than automatically calculating it. I rent part of my principal residence, and so need to manually remove all the CCA charges against the asset.
The T776 form requires clicking through several panels to complete all expenses, prompting each time whether there are more expenses. This seems awkward to me.
These are not fundamental complaints, but small things that hopefully will be addressed in future years.

Worked as expected
The program worked more or less as I expected since I have been using TurboTax for years. The only thing that really irritated me was that if you print a 2-sided pdf to transfer to another PC for printing, you have to break up the file because the enclosures page is on one side of the first page and the fed tax is on the other - but you have to break it up because you don't send both. Somewhat irritating

An unbiased review
Generally good, but sometimes confusing. For example in the T slips section, info is entered for T5008s. Then later on, we are asked to enter the same info in the capital gains profile. TTax should make it clear that the info should be entered only once

Pretty smooth but
Had quite a bit of trouble handling the sale of our vacation home in the United States. Initially double counted the capital gains because I entered it as the sale of a property and then had to reenter the info on the Foreign Tax credit worksheet to get credits for the taxes we already paid in the U.S. I think we eventually figured it out, but I'll still be contacting a tax professionally after the fact to make sure I didn't screw it up.

premier
encountered a problem with 2017 premier addition in printing out returns to be mailed to CRA--had to travel to second location to get disk and put disk in again while program reconfigured settings for printing return.
never had to do that in any previous turbo tax year.
Wasted a lot of time trying to get program to print CRA mailed return.
as a result I could only rate turbo tax with 4 stars for 2017.

Medical Expenses
Medical expenses are automatically applied to lower income partner. In our case forcing it to go on the higher income return gave us a larger refund. Can't the software be designed to calculate the best option?

T1135 form
The program is fine. However, in the T1135 it kept telling me to do Section B of the T1135. (over 250K in foreign holdings)
I did it so many times I got tired trying to find the "problem/mistake", with the warning that I might not be able to file electronically with the "Error". I finished, without a solution, an lo and behold, it was accepted without any problem. But I wasted some 2 hours going around in circles|!

2017 tax return
very clear and concise tax program; this is the 3 rd year I have used turbotax and it has gotten better than the previous programs. Minor issue is you need to go into pull down menu to start a new return because clicking on new return at the end of a completed return does not work.
I have also purchased the Corporation tax package and the phone support has been good.
