Generally speaking you are 10/10 not this year. I have always asked to have my return reviewed but faced more blockages & non available reviewers through your system I almost used "BLOCK'S" but I still chose you guys but ask you to make access to reviewers less complicated

Will use again
Pretty happy with the step-by-step process. I still printed guides from CRA to help with interpretation, but Q&A was helpful.
Next year I might try paying just for Basic upfront rather than Premier and see if it covers my needs (& if not, would upgrade online at that time).
The online submission to CRA was way easier for 2017 versus the last time I used turbotax in 2013, so that was a plus.

Gets it done!
Worked well except it froze a couple of time.
The first time I had not yet saved so lost all my work. TGhe second time I didn;t loose anything but 5 min while I restarted the software.

Non-registered investment accounts
No rollover from the previous year's tax return occurs. Account information and splits have to be re-entered each year. Changes made in forms do not carry over into Easy Step.

Not as good as previous versions
I was expecting this year's version to be as easy to use as previous years. It was a little clunky. I had to enter a lot more information to get started and flipped back and forth between menus more than usual.

Good except for Capital Gains
This software is easy to use except for Capital Gains using T5008 forms. If you have have joint accounts with your spouse, you need to enter separately and divide the amounts.
Information what each box is for is not available .
When I wanted to check what was on on S3 supp form it did not show all the transactions (but had a line with a summary total) I found that very irritating and difficult to check my entries.
I think the option for % like on the T5's would be very helpful.

Improved but still difficult
There are fields that are locked on the T1135, so that if you make a mistake, you can not correct the mistake. I consulted the help desk. This fellow was helpful and apologetic. He explained to me, that I now had to mail the T1135 because TurboTax could not process this form. See incident 932765348. The software developer needs to fix this problem.

Almost there
Overall, I found the Turbo Tax Premier very helpful. However, I also found that the section on moving expenses could have been more user friendly and enhanced. I found myself referring to other sites and CRA webpage on a few occasions, and I thought the information should have been automatic within the Turbo Tax program. The cost for the Premiere is getting a little steep, so perhaps you could review this and reduce the price.

-Suggest to add a line at the end, once taxes are filed: Congratulations, your taxes have been filed with the CRA, DONE! and allow return to beginning of software opening screen.

Missed out on discount
I originally purchased the Standard version of Turbo-Tax and after starting my return realised that I required the Premium Version. I had received an email that qualified me for a 15% discount on purchase but it would not transfer to an upgrade, only purchase of a full version. Disappointing.

As good as tax accountant
First year I use this software. Purchased Premium Edition at Costco. Did spouse and my tax return. Cheaper than my accountant at 550 per year. A learning curve was required using the forms as opposed to easy step but that's because I hadn't done my taxes in over 10 years. Will use next year for sure now that I am familiar with software.

Frustrations with Turbo Tax
I have used Turbo Tax for the last eight years and each year hope that it will have incorporated obvious improvements. But no such luck.
Unlike another tax preparation software, Turbo Tax does not autofill for the other spouse, on schedules such as Rental Income. The details have to be entered for each spouse, in spite of the fact that the spouse data needs to be entered at the top of the schedule. Ditto for jointly owned investments, for the interest or dividend income. I don't understand why the schedules are not completed for the second spouse with autofill.
I also do not understand why I am advised to contribute to an RSP when the program should know from my birthdate that I am now over the age limit for RSP contributions-- and have entered RRIF income data.
I think these frustrations would be quite easy fixes; I don't understand why they continue year after year.
I may look for an alternative tax prep program next year.

ensure your early entries are correct
Take time to ensure you are answering the first questions correctly such as CRA balances, investments outside of Canada as the product does not allow for easy correction. The software handles most situations extremely well

a small stumble
This was my first time donating shares to a charity and I had some difficulty figuring out if I needed to enter the disposition on the T5008 form or not. I finally determined that the T1170 form pulled into the gains/losses form but it took me several hours muddling over this situation. A bit of narrative when I was seeking help would have been appreciated. Overall, it went well.

missing links
I have used QT then Turbo for a long time. It has guided me through the information entry requirements and sorted the tax info for allocation and optimization, etc. - Enhancements and changes to TT make TT at times and places loose links to parts of the integrated software.

Occasional Annoyances
The interface is a challenge to newcomers, but quite elegant once you've figured it out. Can't imagine tax season without Turbotax!
I dropped a star from the overall rating because it seems to create a new annnoyance every year, often in the Review-Before-File feature. This year, I tried to enter accommodation cost in a senior's residence, and it refused to netfile because I hadn't entered "property tax paid", when there was none. I tried every possible variant of entry on the worksheet; same result! Since the accommodation costs did not affect the net payable, I just left out the claim. Needs to be fixed.

Issues with T5008 & T5013 box 210 Carrying Charges
T5008 auto entry was confusing & not useful for the following reasons: 1) My securities firm provided Box 21 information only and box 21 info that was provided was the proceeds of disposition after the brokerage commission was removed (i.e. outlays were not included in the Proceeds of Disposition; 2) Box 20 "Cost or Book Value" was not provided and to be consistent with the traditional format for calculating Gains/Losses it should be the Adjusted Cost Base (ACB); 3) the T5008 entry screen box "Type of Investment" was confusing because it did not have the choice for Losses but just Gains; 4) It was unclear that if you entered info in T5008 screen that it was duplicating some of the capital Gains/Loss information that an individual enters (this is not explained up front where an individual could make the choice to either use the T5008 screen or enter gains/Losses manually before finding out that the information is being duplicated).
Carrying Charges from Box 210 on T5013 entry screen do not automatically transfer to the T691 E "Alternative Minimum Tax" form at line 10 (I had to enter this manually)!

adequate tax software
Tax returns are never easy and TurboTax can be helpful. However the help can come with drawbacks. Wish TurboTax software was compatible w/ Linux OS. Had problems again w/ Windows. Had to dump OS and reinstall due to update not compatible w/ software.

When in the review mode and the fix or explore button is pressed, there's no easy way to return to the page before pressing the button. I've had to restart the review process several times after wandering off into the fix/explore jungle. Fix this please.

Help system sucks
I have used Turbo Tax and its predecessor for many many years. However, the help texts have become very simplified, not providing any real value. Doesn't mention where a particular value on a form may be coming from, doesn't explain what it may impact, and doesn't explain the pros/cons of perhaps making that deduction. I realize they are now trying to sell the service of the review and audit defense for stupid money, and by making HELP meaningless promotes the use of those expensive services. But I pay for PREMIER version in order to get more advanced service as part of my purchase. Didn't see that.

Somewhat convinient
2 problems:- had hard time searching for some questions in Help menu. - your T776 form doesn't have extra fields for line 9270 (unlike competition software) Where do you suppose I put deductions that don't apply to other lines?

Need to be sent to the form T2222 Northern Residents form if you have been a resident of an A or B area in the past several years. There should be a prompt at least in the Easy Access area of filing. T forms boxes shouldn't be filled in if it isn't necessary for Turbo Tax
