Useful Tax Software
I have used TurboTax for about 10 yrs. Generally it has been a good experience with some problems with corrupted software but which was rapidly rectified. Having a couple of small companies which I did T2 returns for and several personal tax returns we have saved an appreciable amount of money. In addition I was able to get some of my family members to understand the tax system a little better and to their credit have since started doing their own tax returns.

I did not find it very easy to use, there is really no support other than online predetermined questions. Warnings are very hard to resolve, there has to be an easy way.

Like the program very much, just to many add on. The box to add directly from the government always comes on when you open a saved taxed. The tax review by a professional at the end is bothersome. Let me say NO once and that's it, not that it always comes ON.

confusing
Had no idea where to enter my capital gains loss it had a spot for my capital gains but not the losses and every time I went back it took me to business investments which is not what I had anyway I took the hit and we will see what I get for a return if anything I can use it next year

Has shortcomings
The program runs a constant script error that prevents some functions from working. Especially the left hand side of the screen. Having to get rid of the scrip notification error two and three time for every page is a real pain in the neck. This is the second year in a row this has been a problem.

Needs improving
Given your market dominance, I am annually surprised at the shallow search functions and information. It is as though you are afraid to be clear so as to avoid criticism.
A user has to know too much in order to find things such as how to claim medical travel expenses.Also, the review function should recognize whether you have optimized various things rather than repeatedly warning over what has been attended to. This program can be greatly improved.

Some Glitches This Year
I usually use Turbo Tax to do my taxes and have found that the Help button was very useful. This year I could not get the Help button to work in the blue field in the upper right hand corner. I wasted lots of time trying to find an alternate way to locate the help I needed for answering my questions.
Also, another glitch was Printing my own copy at the end of the process. Usually it asks if you want to close unused forms before printing but this year it did not. I ended up having copies of several blank forms which I had to throw out. The question was asked for saving the PDF copy of the return but not on printing it.
Usually, this has never been an issue on previous years. I still like using Turbo Tax though. I find it easy to do my own taxes using the program.

I found Turbo Tax very informative for Capital Gains or Loss Portion.
We sold a Rental Property and got through the forms without any problems.

Improve Rental Investment Section
Hi there,
Each year the software does a good job of transferring the info over and that saves lots of time. It would great if the partnership info names from he previous years could also be transferred over - its a big pain having to type it all back in repeatedly. Also, when I went back top make a change in the expenses, the fields suddenly all went blank and all my previous entries were lost. Seems like there may be a few bugs in the rental property section.
Other than that, I did not get help on the section where you could enter the credits for the kids activities.

Good software, but has a few bugs
Good software, but same bugs the last few years.
1) With multiple rentals,Turbotax changes the Property# & duplicates +/or drops rentals off. This results in me having to repeatedly rekey info. This happened the last few years. B4 I clicked 50% joint ownership, but data was always halved again, despite me keying both ways.
2) Turbotax asks to suppress blank pages yet still prints.
3) Turbotax changes data when going back to just check on item, so must continual verify all the #'s to verify they weren't modified unwittingly.
4) At the end of the day, the program is thorough & does save time.

Corrections needed.
On 'register for email' screen says 'Once the CRA has processed you tax return'.
On Netfile confirmation page, left button on bottom says 'Print Your'.

missing some stuff
trying to get to actually talk to someone at turbo tax is beyond frustrating. It was easier for me to get the government on the line than them. As near as I can tell there must be some forms that you don't get with the program such as the t5008 form. Google was much more helpful that turbo tax.

Feedback option missing
System indicates that you can use this tool to file a past year's return, however, doesn't provide a link. We have this situation and don't know how to do it, however, your system indicates that it is possible. HOW?
On filing the return, there is only two options for signing up for a CRA account or staying with paper. We signed up for this two years ago. System should provide an option of "we are already registered with CRA"

Minor Issue + Great Product
Schedule I on Quebec tax return caused a very minor issue. Taxpayer lived and paid tax in another province during 2016 (yes I meant 2016). TurboTax would not accept $0.00 in either 2016 box and thus I was unable to upload the return to Quebec. The workaround was easy. Place 0.01 (1 cent) in each 2016 box. 2017 prefilled accurately. I suspect that this glitch will be patched shortly however I just want to get the tax return finished. I have been using TurboTax for years plus its predecessors. I would never switch to another product.

Improvement Idea
One improvement that I would make is with the print option. You can not print the detailed tax summary without using the print screen and pasting to a word document. I call Turbo tax and this was the way that they told me to do it.

OK but some difficulties
It's too often unclear whether the program automatically divides a joint-with-spouse (50%) income/expense or whether one has to manually halve the sum and enter half on each return.

One problem
I was unable to electronically send a Quebec tax return because Schedule I, tax year 2016 data, was $0.00.
This was correct because in 2016 the taxpayer was living in BC and was subject to BC provincial taxes and not to Quebec taxes. TurboTax appeared to fill in the Schedule correctly. However, that should not preclude sending in the tax return electronically unless this is Revenue Quebec imposed restriction. TurboTax did its job well but it appears that Quebec Schedule I needs to be amended to show where the taxpayer was last domiciled for the prior tax year.
