Tax change with life
I appreciate that TURBO Tax now more easily excepts a yearly sum for medical receipts ,as this has always been a problem for me. I noticed that it did not want my May 2013 to April 2014 period this year though. In the future pension splitting may be an option as my wife's income has increased by CPP.

Useful and consistent
We have a simple family return to process (2 adults, 1 youth) and so TurboTax more than meets our needs. It covers the basics (upload all income forms applicable and then add donations) and then provides next-step logic for balancing contribution/receipt claims in order to maximize the return.
The tooltips get in the way on occasion but I'm glad they're there since, between them and the contextual help, I never felt like I had a question without a trustworthy answer close at hand.

cost of item should be lower
well year after year the program has little changes exept for the percentages of federal and provincial tax. this program should be much cheaper.

Language and Vocabulary
I like Turbo Tax and I have used it for 3 years now.
But I still have difficulties with filling in the charts when I don't know what is being asked for .....eg I didn't have any idea as to whether a stock sale was an investment or a capital gain....?? The phone line was excellent in bailing me out so kudos for the helpline.

In the RRSP, should indicated the deposit date of RRSP contribution, so that users should be aware is that over or under for the present tax year, or, is that qualify for the tax year. I had experience that and need file T1 adjustment.

Good but confusing
Overall the product is fairly good guiding the user through the various form.
HOWEVER.. navigation and printing can still be greatly improved. The product prompts the user to save 3 different versions of the file in what seems to be a never ending loop.

My reliable choice for 10 years
I have use quicktax/turbotax for the past 10 tax returns and am very impressed with the program. They continue to improve with innovative tweaks to make the experience as smooth as possible.
I have not tried other tax software, and I would not be comfortable switching at this point since I carry depreciation which it automatically imports from the previous year, but also because there have not been any reasons to switch.
A couple items that I would like to see made better: an option to swap which return is the primary/spouse as it does impact some of the logic.
I have had trouble with the "optimizers" where the suggestion did not give me the best result.
Minor complaints considering how easy it has made doing and filing my tax returns.

I made a charitable donation (under $100) in 2013 and wanted to carry it forward to 2014 tax year. However, TurboTax did not allow me to carry forward my 2013 donation to 2014, but it carried, on the same tax return, my donation from 2012 to 2014. I tried to fix the error by reviewing various screens (e.g., Deductions, Review), I edited, deleted, entered in 2 boxes (as the software suggested), accessed "Fix" when I saw a warning about my donation. I finally was able to see my donation on the Donations Schedule being carried forward from 2013 to 2014, but when I went to "Print & File", it showed that it in fact was NOT carried forward. I ended up having to delete my 2013 donation altogether and will try to enter it next year, on my 2014 return. My 2012 donation was carried forward to 2014 on the same tax return without any problem.

Time Saver
TurboTax is definitely a time saver. If you have the least bit of special circumstances (rental property, tuition, capital gains etc.) it will you save you piles of time over doing it by hand. I can remember using paper, and finding an error somewhere early on and having to change every subsequent calculation. With TurboTax, once you catch an early error it changes the rest. I wish their support was a bit better, and their online community often has questions that go unanswered. I will buy it again next year though.

Not a joint return
Beware, if you're filing with your wife, it's not a joint return even if TurboTax acts like it is. I got a big refund but my wife owed. The TurboTax refund window makes it appear that you're getting a net refund, but the returns are filed separately. I didn't file by the deadline so interest on my wife's owed amount occurred. There could be penalties as well.

The only problem I had with Turbo Tax this year is the filling page repeated itself. After I filed, it come back to the same page and I wasn't sure if I had actually filed, or if something had gone wrong.

Leads you through all the steps
I have used Turbo Tax for many years and like doing income taxes for family and friends. Turbo Tax makes it easy. A little laborious having to fill in the tax situation for everyone but that way I do not miss anything. Some improvements this year.

Please amend
When you need to correct something, it does not take you back to where you were. Need to go through whole thing again to get to point where you needed to make correction.
I have a small business and claim auto expenses. Your program only does this through mileage %. It is too confusing. Can't you simplify this!
Otherwise the program is good. Just a bit complicalted at times.

Very Effective Program
I was a financial accountant for thirty years, preparing my taxes by hand and with professional tax preparation software for clients, my family, and two companies. Since I retired from the office and moved on to other things, I started using TurboTax and found it very accurate. The prompting makes it really easy to use, even if you don't understand taxes, and I feel confident that nothing is being missed.

2013 Turbo Tax Premier
The product was excellent for data input and updating. I found that what if scenarios worked very well for me. They revolved around whether to claim deductions on my wife or my return.
However, I found filing quite onourous, with all the review items and warnings, and questions that I was asked during the NETFILE process regarding source of income. It should be possible to go through the helpful hints, warnings etc. before actually filing.
The biggest difficulty I had was with the printing. Just after I had filed I was getting the condensed version of the tax retun printed, and not the full return for my records. I then had to select all the forms individually to get my entire return printed. When I went back the following day it printed my return as I expected the first time.

Good Programme --- 1 suggestion to improve
I have used Turbo Tax for 5 years and did my first net file in 2013 with the 2012 return. It was easy and this year`s net file was even easier. One thing that I think would make a big difference to those with foreign income is a link to the Bank of Canada exchange rates for various countries. It would make preparation that much easier and accurate.

Lack of Middle Initial display
The only issue I have with the software, is the lack of displaying the middle initial during the process. Both my wife and I have the same first name, so, it makes it very inconvenient not seeing the middle initial during the fill out process.
