Lots of work arounds
Loading and log in worse then last year especially for non techie. Help function a waste of time, fortunately I did not need it as questions are well worded. Print function at end printed 2 copies of my wife's return instead of 1 for each of us.

Not worth the upgrade
I have used TurboTax basic for years. I had a couple of changes this year and was prompted to switch to Premier. Definitely not worth the extra money.
They have changed the medical information input system and it was much more difficult to navigate than in previous years. They took out the arrows which allowed simple maneuvers to and from each individual input. This really slowed the process down.

TurboTax Premier
The Premier version makes it much easier to enter investment info, but it is not clear on where income is placed on the forms when income splitting options are chosen. Income should not be placed in the income from self-employmnet box if no self-employment is indicated in the profiles.

Less value, higher cost than previous years.
After completing this year's return, the Netfile option did not offer a specific link, but instead sent me to the general CRA home page containing a long list of links, none of which offer the specific option of Netfiling my return. After successfully Netfiling my return for several years in a row, it appears I may have to print and mail this year's return. Very disappointing. Over time, Turbotax has gotten more expensive and offered less. Also disappointing is the fact that there is no help phone # or online chat for Turbotax software assistance. If you are a customer with questions that aren't already listed on the help menu, you are on your own.

About Turbotax Premier
I have used this product for over 15 years and every year I wanted to change to another product but too lazy to find an alternative. If you are starting, look for other packages because the support from TT is horrible. You have a question and call support, it take a long time, and most of them are terrible, they don't know the answer and drag you on, or they terminate the call, or they say: ask your accountant. Well, I am asking where in TT to enter this item, you are supposed to know if you are in support. Anyway, I hardly call help but the odd time I called, I had terrible experience. CRA told me to inform TT as there was a bug in the software not flowing the amount through. There is no phone number/email address to report this bug. So the same bug is never fixed.

OK mostly but some improvement needed
Filling in the requirements for Form T5088 is not easy. I suggested last year, and again this year, that a relatively simple programming change would make selection of investment type and sharing visible so that review is much easier. This is a no brainer!

Helpful BUT
Had trouble downloading slips from Revenue Quebec. Entries were all screwed up. I had to enter all slips by hand from CRA and Revenue Quebec for the software to work . Wasted a lot of time.
Could not access some worksheets such as:-
- taxable amt. of dividends
- Age amount
- Federal dividend tax credit

Bugs this year
There are bugs encountered this year in Business Income and Capital Losses that were not buggy in previous years. It cause me to have to do work-arounds and was a waste of valuable time.

Good for most tax returns but not user friendly
The Canadian version is not as well-developed as the US version. As a dual filer (US and Canada) the coordination of the two tax filings is cumbersome under even the best of programs. A few pet peeves (Canada version): in forms view the font size is extremely small and navigation is awkward but I do like the switch between forms for the two married filers; the interview for developing the Foreign Tax Credit is poor, basically requiring computation offline and then entering the developed amounts in the program's entry forms; moving backward (to correct an entry for example) requires traversing the entire interview again even though no other data has changed; the charitable deductions section is poorly designed especially for those with both US and Canadian donations. For dual reporters a feature that allows import of data from the US 1040 to the Canadian T1 and vice versa would be nice, I create 'synthetic' Forms 1099 and Forms T3/T5 to assist and keep track of what I have done (in case I ever get audited). A good Excel Workbook helps (I have a template I use every year).

User Interface for Errors Needs Improvement
Your user interface for error messages definitely needs improvement. I use the Easy Step method to complete my returns. When I tried to Netfile my Quebec return, I was presented with an error message that prevented me from doing so unless I corrected the problem. The actual data shown on the screen was 100% correct. I tried changing the data shown in multiple ways. Each time I did and tried to Netfile, nothing worked. I was presented with the same error page. So then I tried creating a brand new return and imported the government data again. Again, when I tried to Netfile with Quebec, the exact same thing happened. So now I felt I had no option but to print out my Quebec return and mail it to them. I ended up printing out around 40 or more pages, some of which required a signature from somebody who works in BC. With that being the case, I decided to go online and see if I could find something related to the error message I was getting from TurboTax. I found variations but nothing specific to my exact problem. When I ended up doing was to access the Forms Method option and look at the actual data entered on the various forms. I found the problem. It was either the Import option wasn’t properly working and importing incomplete data, or, the data being imported wasn’t updating the correct locations within the form in question. When I spotted the problem causing the error, I fixed it and after doing so the Netfile process for Quebec completed successfully. Making the change not only did it fix the problem but also reduced the amount of tax that was owed. I actually wasted around 7 hours of my time trying to resolve the problem. All of this effort wouldn’t have been required of me if your software would have brought me to the actual form with wrong data on it. I could have immediately made the correction and filed my return with Quebec. Please contact me if you need any further details. Thank you.

Desability tax credit
Be sure to scroll down when you are completing the DTC form. There are questions that are automatically populated with the answer NO and this will greatly effect your return (ie. no DTC credit).

It's ok, but....
I have been using this program for decades. And so much of it seems comfortable. Except, when you run into a question or have a new tax wrinkle, the help functions are simply pathetic, geared for professionals, not for the general public. Even the menu necessitates detailed knowlege.
Yes, if you purchase serivces of an expert consultation you will be well served. But that is an additional substantial outlay. Frankly, CRA does a better job withe help menus than Turbo Tax. They should up their game of suffer the consequences of having an uncompetititve product.

It is ok
Every time we do our taxes, each year,
your section that says "do you want to skip the blank pages to print" we enter YES
and your software still prints the blank pages.
Please fix this problem.

Simple for Simple Returns
It's helpful and fairly simple to use. But going back and forth between different parts of your return is annoying. Some of the deductions and expenses aren't clear. Overall it doesn't give me the certainty that I've completed my taxes correctly. A good product if you're mainly dealing with employment income with few expenses and deductions.

Phone Support is Terrible
I have the Premier edition of Turbo Tax. I had two questions about box 25 and 34 on my T-3 slip ( there was no box 25 in Turbo Tax ) and the source country of income lists just USA, and Country 1 and Country 2. I tried a few times to call support but the automated assistant didn't understand me and kept hanging up on me.

Needs Work
Bought Premier version that promised no-cost real-time help. Apparently as a practical matter not easily available. Tried to use online TTax help; was redirected to a service that identified itself as an accredited TTax partner. They asked for $2.00 on my Visa (???) Ok, allowed that. They tried to take $71.00. My bank intervened fortunately and locked my card. Also my PayPal account was locked. TTax has a security problem!!!
There MAY be a problem with how the 15% set aside for US Social Security is recorded. Somehow the entry was logged in two places as a deduction to income. CRA didn't like it. I know this is Canada but a better explanation is needed regarding where/how US Medicare insurance payments are treated since they are wrapped up in Social Security.
The process for re-filing is convoluted at best. It took several attempts at finding the way to get that done.
As a user of the US version of TTax since it was a DOS program on floppies the Canadian version of TTax seems much more difficult to use and navigate than the US version. It has a way to go.

Premiere vs Standard
Upgraded from Standard to Premiere to help with investment income. There didn't seem to be a difference in this section. I spent more time on Google looking for definitions and terms. The community button was useless. Never pointed me in the direction of my question.

WANTED CD
I wanted a CD, bit just a down load. Very Upset !
Irritated that the rental version comes with extra return capability. One or two is sufficient.

Major Flaw that Benefits Turbo Tax Profits
As an honest person, I try to abide by the laws and requirements. This year I found Turbo Tax very frustrating to deal with. The Federal Gov't wants you to report Interest from Banks even if your weren't provided a Tax Slip for Interest Earned. In order to do that, Turbo Tax insists you move up to Premier Edition at over $70.00. And if you're doing taxes for yourself & Spouse and reporting Interest on both, Turbo Tax insist on you paying $145.00. I personally have been doing Income Tax Returns for 50 years, and I'm not impressed with Turbo Tax's action. I talked to a Tax Expert, who didn't help me, but quietly disconnected our call. Turbo Tax needs a Sales Office with a Phone Number so you can talk with a Real Person for an acceptable Solution.

It works well for net file
This is very good for simple returns. The investment parts need some work; especially the T5013 and the S3-SUPP forms.

Need a bit more help
I find it easier to see a T slip, then enter it, rather than to be asked if I have particular slips. I did not know how to get out of the interview mode. I got there accidentally. It would be nice to search for a line in the help. Or the help to have a link to go to the required form. I end up emailing other for help. I haven't figured out how to join the on-line community. I was glad when Turbo eventually answered my phone call. I started off in on-line Premier. But unknown to me, there was no forms mode. I was having problems entering things. I didn't like being quizzed. I needed help for the answers. I started over again using the download version. More options to find things.
