Cumbersome
I have used this software for over 20 years including prior Quick Tax. last year I used the online method, premium, and just found out after I had purchased the cd/download version this year, that I cannot access the carry forward information from online to the download version.. not happy with that.Also found that the donations form was somewhat confusing. did manage to figure it out, but could have been a better layout. Medical form and donations form could be a little better.

Gone Down Hill
I have been using Turbotax for over 10 years.in has become increasingly hard to understand. I started my taxes this year using "Standard" it insisted that i needed to upgrade to "Premier". The only thing that change is that I got a lot more irrelevant questions.

Quality decreasing
Over the past few years the quality and ease of using has lowered. I like to enter all my information myself and therefore use the Forms method. There are several forms and line # that will not allow me to do so.(i.e installments, the flat rate method for employment expenses, etc) The only way to correct is to use the Easy Step method which I do not like as it is very time consuming. Printing the confirmation page uses 4 pages s/b 1 - formatting needs to be corrected

Needs Fixes
Program kept indicating Rental Property Income; I do not have rental property income. Went back several times to go over my data input and couldn't find any errors. Yet the program wouldn't let me Netfile unless I put in rental property address. I attempted to put in a dummy address so I could at least Netfile, however it wouldn't let me do that either. As a result I am having to print and mail my return.

Gets the job done
I have used the program for decades. The best part is it populates all your previous year's data. This saves a lot of grief finding previous tax losses and gains and rental property depreciation etc.. Also the rental income and expense section is easy for a Canadian property. I find it time consuming when entering foreign investment income from even simple common share ownership because I have to calculate all the exchange rate info so it can be entered in Canadian dollars. Seems like a simple thing that should be automated.

Poor help service
See previous comment. Good support is vital and this year I had difficulty in getting well trained support and understanding each other. Accent is hard to overcome in tech talk. The first help tech. ran out of ideas and had to give up. The second help tech also could not make the program run. We had to solve the problem ourselves using the large library of user comments.

Not as Good as Previous Years
Had a few problems with TurboTax this year. Program did not flow as well, and on occasion took me places I'd been much before. HelpSearch was at all helpful. Kept asking me to confirm something I'd already done a few times. May look elsewhere next year, which is sad considering I've used this program for many years.

Unnecessary Versions
For all personal income tax should be ONE complete (no locked items) in the 'Standard' version. Only when it goes beyond personal income tax filing like small and higher business tax filing, or for more than the 8 returns, it seems fair to offer more complex version and charge some more.

Turbotax - MyCRA import: too buggy to believe!
I have been using Turbotax for many years. I had to graduate to the Premier version because rental property income was removed from the standard version years ago (sad!). This year I was in a rush, so I tried to use import from my wife's and my MyCRA accounts. BIG MISTAKE. I spent 2-3 hours trying to get import to work, doing different combinations of things (I have a computer background). I only got one set of data imported. I have been using pension splitting for a few years now. It is surprising that when importing returns from previous years that that option is not preserved for the current taxation years. I buy tax preparation software to help simplify and lessen the time required to complete this task. Too bad Turbotax does not do better with its offering!

Is Premier really worth it?
With a bit of previous tax filing experience, I don't see the need to upgrade from the standard package even if your family has a fairly complicated tax profile.
Love the tax software, just don't know if upgrading is worth it.

i found a software error
there is an error in the calculation of capital losses from other years. 1989 - 1990 has 75% where it should be 66.66% and 1991 - 1999 has 66.66% where it should have 75%. I spent more time than I wanted to trying to relate this information to TurboTax. I am hopeful that I will receive consideration for passing along this valuable information.

Printing confusing
How do I print the worksheets and forms. I tried but it kept printing the entire package but not the forms. Very confusing instructions and sort of duplicated also. Not satisfied I got everything printed but wasted over 60 sheets as kept printing over and over again. Sad. Wasteful.

Programming Error
There is a problem with the calculations regarding net rental income. With two people sharing the income, it either doubles each share or halves it. We sent it in with the lower number and will have to write to the CRA to correct it later.

its okay
You ask questions that no longer apply,I am over 71, i can no longer able to contribute to an RRSP, yet you tell me how much i can contribute and also ask to optimize the amount with my spouse. This is a computer program, it should not be that difficult to make the adjustments in the program, once you know my age.

pension splitter
I completed my taxes using all optimizers available. I used the recommended dollar amounts, reviewed the results and filed my taxes. Later I again reviewed the filed taxes and was uncomfortuable with the pension split amount. On a working file I decreased my taxes by $64.00. I adjusted the tax split by working with total split income of the two of us bringing the income level closure to equal. The split I used with was lower than the max split allowed. I changed nothing else. I will refile my taxes to get the overpayment back when the CRA time line allows. Why did this happen?

First Time User of Premier
I have used TurboTax Standard for 10+ years and have decent knowledge of the Canadian tax system. However, in 2021 we sold a property in the US for a large capital gain so I upgraded to Premier expecting it to better handle the complexities of this one time event. I was disappointed that it really offered nothing more than the Standard version for this situation. Waste of $.

not impressed
I've been using this platform for over 20 years and I found this year the most stressful. Information was not as easily forthcoming, some carryforwards were not complete. I'm not sure I'll be back next year.

There has to be a better way of entering information regarding securities especially if you have over 200 trades for the year. I spent hours selecting the type either "capital gain" or "investment" after I was instructed to fix this at the end of filling out my return before I could send it via net file. Even after all that time, I still was instructed to fix it. I am about done with this program!

One Big Flaw
I need more than 3 lines for the Form T1135 (Foreign Income Verification.) I know it's been complained by many, and for many years. I don't accept that it's still not provided. Canada is perhaps not your primary focus then.

I do returns for my niece and her partner. They have rental income. Last year, everything was fine but this year TT kept coming up with an incorrect figure for net income. Finally decided to file with incorrect info. Maybe CRA computer will find it. If not, will correct it with the CRA later.

Acceptable
An acceptable product. What is unacceptable are spelling errors throughout some pages; please fix this. Please make the netfile return count window bigger; no reason to have it so small.

Need Improvement
I am a long-time user of Turbotax, but over the years, it has not improved noticeably. Because of program glitches, I had to call 3 times to get the errors fixed. The online help was quite good and not too difficult - so that is a big plus.
