Stocks Disappointing
I have used TurboTax for at least 10 years.
It doesn't get any better to use. I thought that the TT Premier was supposed to handle stocks - it says it does but each year I am disappointed. No way to put in stock information and no easy way to handle stock buys/sells, Capital gains/losses, capital carry backs etc.

Did not identify Netfile error
The product is good, except that I had to spend time on the phone for support because the CRA did not accept the Netfile. The program gave no indication as to what the error was. The correction was to remove the code from the prior year's Notice of Assessment.

Clumsy Easy Step
Easy Step is just frustrating for all the time it takes, its "EASIER" to use the forms.
Also, the deliberate sharing of donations among spouses does not work using forms, and can only be accomplished through "easy steps", but it is confusing at best.

More than a little wonkie
things that are wrong are:
[1] if you use online last year you can't carry it forward into the desktop version this year.
[2] Also if you check that you will be e.g. deferring spin-off capital gains you can't uncheck that later....without a lot of trouble. This has implications for your ability to netfile so yes it's important.

Good product
I would have given this product a higher rating. I have used this product for years but because I need the additional features that standard does not have, I buy premium. But premium provides for 10 returns and I am only filing one. So I would give a 5 star rating if it was half the cost. Feel over paying for multiple returns when I don't need it.

Needs improvements
Very frustrating not being able to read the text under the Headers at the top on my Surface 4. Increasing text size had no effect, same problem when doing Review and Netfiling.

Robust but annoying
The program is fairly robust and gets the job done, but it's filled with many annoying and unnecessary things, particularly marketing ploys. I've been using it for years and this might be my last. I know you're shocked right, a service with marketing ploys! For example, when net filing asking you how you would like to pay and offering you options through them (that you pay for). It's none of your business how I pay but one has to select an option before you can proceed, primarily to collect marketing info. Had an issue with not being able to fill in some boxes, turns out (after lengthy call in for support) it was because my screen zoom was large enough ... really? There are many quirks to the program that could annoy the novice user.

Improvements Needed
I am a retired Chartered Accountant. I used Turbotax in 2019 and it worked ok. I bought it again for my 2020 tax but was not overly happy with its performance or ease of moving from some of the information schedules back to the T1. The roll forward process is not adequate. If you did your prior yrs return on Turbotax the roll forward process should autofill a lot more schedule information on the current years return ie fill in the T5 info, RRIF/RRSP info, T4 info, medical info, that you entered on your prior years return. This refers to the names of the payees etc not the dollar amounts recorded on the prior years tax slip. I also found that the pension splitting optimizer did not work. I had to do the optimization calculation manually. Overall I was not happy with Turbotax this year and would not recommend it.

Going downhill
I have used TurboTax for several years and have really liked it. But to be honest, I was a little disappointed with it this year as I didn't find as easy to use. I also found a glitch with the Climate Action credit and had some inapplicable warnings show up that sent me on a bit of a wild goose chase. I hope it improves for next time or I may look at another program.

what's could be better!
It would be better if:
you could open more than one individual return at a time, not all couples file as a couple.

Complicated
Would like to have some examples of scenarios. Such as CCA for Investment properties, Employment expenses, Why/When/what is Minimum Tax? I've never seen this on my taxes before, why was turbo tax prompting me for it?

turbo Tax premier

Forget Help
Using TurboTax Premium (Canada) problem using netfile (Does not help with the resolution and the problem does not make sense) Phone long distance and wait 40 minutes - no other facility for problem resolution. Should have an email problem resolution facility.

OK...when it works.
The product is 'ok'....but yet again this year as in past years, it was released with bugs in it that required uninstall and reinstalls. When you do this, of course worry that you may lose data you'd already entered. This sort of thing occurs EVERY YEAR. Don't release the product until you know it works!!!!!

Rental and Foreign Tax Credits
For foreign tax credits there seemed to be discrepancies between the worksheets/schedules and what was entered in the Federal and Provincial foreign tax credit line/box.
T1135 form returns again this year with only three lines available in section 2 - had to send a hardcopy to CRA again.

2020 PROBLEMS
I HAVE USED TURBO TAX FOR YEARS. THIS YEAR THE PROGRAM WANTS TO CHARGE THE COUNTER SUMMARY TWICE ON THE SAME PERSON. IF IT DOES THIS AGAIN NEXT YEAR I WILL BE SWITCHING

Some very good but check, check, check!
Basically the system works but the auto-fill part leaves something to be desired. It put CRA data in the right place but missed some data; it jumbled up the Quebec forms, mixing data from 3 RLs. Have used TurboTax for years; this was the first time I was so darn uncomfortable.

It is OK
TurboTax Premier handles vanilla Premier Edition features very well. The help access cannot be better. It was great. The areas that are not really great are the handling of Joint non registered investment accounts. Specifically Capital Gains and Losses and T5013 and T1135. There is a lot of extra keying, checking and validation that is required for those 2 areas.

Annoying issues
Entry fields for a series of similar rows (e.g.medical expenses) do not allow copy and paste from an earlier row into a new field. Big waste of time retyping the same info multiple times.
T1135 form does not allow expandable rows when more than the 3 provided are necessary. This has been a problem for years and TurboTax continues to fail to provide a fix.

A bit disappointed
Not enough help to provide explanations to understand what choice to pick e.g. how to choose T5008 income type (investment or capital gain). Help in general usually just link to cryptic or even irrelevant index material.
Navigation can be improved (e.g. after going back to fix something, there should be a choice of jumping back instead of having to go through all the intermediate steps.
Seems not worth the cost to upgrade from Standard to Premier.

2020 version is messed up
We've used TurboTax Premier for many years, but the 2020 version Easy-Step has many bugs (ex. tax owing amounts changed several times during review, when no other amounts were modified).

Problems
I have used Turbo Tax for many years and have always found it helpful. This year I have run into several issues with the program.
The program set the Netfile form to 0; which caused lots of problems when Netfiling. There is no mention of the fact you have to be online to save and print your taxes; which again causes all sorts of problems.
Error code TT403 kept coming up with only one of my returns; after I did the latest Turbo Tax updated. I was told it was because my computer needed to be updated. However, after I updated my computer the error code still came up for the same return. I had to reenter all the data for that return and save it like a new return.

COULD BE BETTER
Very frustrating without the ability to do more then 2 Moving Expense Deductions. I had to manually do the return because of this. Other then this it is excellent. Please add more then 2 Moving Expenses.

2020 taxes
Turbo tax is okay and handles most common situations. However it is not explained or easy to claim a foreign tax credit on US rental income. It was very difficult to get any help or information and to navigate the forms. Took a lot of redoing to get it correct. I would have thought this was quite common. If there is a better product Id use it instead.

No improvement in years
Several changes are needed. When reporting T5 earnings from USD account, program does not have place for conversion rate. When reporting T1135, if it needs more rows, there is no way to add.

Good Tax Guide

Stop Bugging Me
I'm trying to prepare and do tax returns. Stop bugging me with all these pop up garbage. Here is your review. I have used this product for 10 or more years, I don't need any extra messages, rating, assist with my returns. So give me the option to never see this time wasting material.
