This year found the program very confusing, asking to enter information with no way to ask what this field means. Just not very user friendly for people who buy the program so they can do their taxes stress free. This program needs more thought. Could have done my taxes with the forms from Canada Post and would have been likely more explanatory. Not happy with Turbo Tax this year and have been using for years.

More confusing and lengthy than last years
1. - I've been using Turbo Tax and it's predecessor, Quick Tax, for many years now, and found this year's to be lengthier (more time consuming) and somewhat confusing in answering all the questions correctly or where to put specific information. This comment relates specifically to completing the investments section and filling in some boxes relating to the T3 and T5008 tax forms. Although all the forms were auto-fill through CRA, I still did not feel confident that I entered the investment account "Fees" in the correct area, and was unsure of the expenses and charges box in the T3 area. Perhaps this is something that the financial institution should be looking into and issue some sort of tax form for these fees and where exactly to enter them.
2. - Another issue, at the end of the process, was the section on receiving communications from the CRA , a third option should be offered, this being that I already have an account with CRA and are already receiving communications by e-mail.
3. - Having purchased the Turbo Tax Premier edition for the past few years, I have been generally satisfied with it's ease of use, until now. I should not be asked to purchase further options to get tax help. I did purchase the "Audit Defense" in the event that I made a mistake.

Feels dated and has some key gaps
The Easy Step interview doesn't support T1170. If they made it clear that you had to fill it in manually in forms mode, that would be fine. But they don't. It took a 40 minute call to support to get the answer. Also, the Foreign Income Verification form is limited. Why can't you add rows?

It will do
Difficult to use if self populating as no notice is given for cost price of sold share. If one does not enter cost price the proceeds are identified by CRA as a capital gains!!!!! Quick tax support very week. If you have a complicated return best go to a CA, otherwise this package more than good enough

I required several help sessions with a real person to complete the tax return. Both real people were very helpful but getting to talk to them is difficult. It turned out that the CD version needed to be uninstalled and replaced from your website. Not expected or enjoyed.

It kept asking me to add info for a sale of a home when I had clicked no. (had purchased a home) also printed out a whole pile of pages related to TOSI ( split income ) with no useful info and I had clicked no for split income so not sure why this came up

90's software
The Canadian turbotax looks like it was written in the 90's and the interface was never updated. It is hard to move around in the easystep interface and you often end up on an earlier step, and then skipping ahead to get to the screen you wanted. The forms interface is very complicated, unuseable for input, and really only useful to see what the form will look like when submitted. The US Turbotax is much much better.

Advice for new investors
I think that the advice and suggestions for new investors is very limited. I had to contact CRA and Revenue Quebec because the information in Turbotax was not enough. We need more detail for investors and some useful suggestions.
I did not notice the difference between Turbotax Standard and Premier edition. Turbotax Premier was not as useful as I was expecting.
Please improve your Premier edition. It is too simple and basic. New investors need more detail and better explanations

CRA link up can be difficult
I did mine and my husband's taxes together. I elected to link to the CRA site so that info would automatically be uploaded to Turbo Tax. There was no problem autofilling my husband's CRA info using his log in and password, but then I wasn't able to log in to my CRA account because they said I had to be a representative. This was annoying. I had to manually enter my own T4 and other data.

Poor file control
TurboTax is a very good program except for the saving of files. Several users, including myself, have had difficulty with corrupted files when saving the return. I would recommend that Intuit investigate this. I would also recommend a back-up file feature that would check for irregularities prior to the back-up.

works but there are issues...
file save bug not addressed despite numerous complaints by users
very difficult to get timely response for questions or problems
expensive - if you just have a few investments to enter, this should be able to be done in the basic version

Not the easiest
This was my first year using this product and the data entry wasn't the easiest, especially if you have T5008 info.I'd prefer having a table and not having to bounce for each line of entry.
Some of the required fields required knowledge and would be nice if there was a hotlink explaining that they were asking and what the terms meant.
If you have kids you should start data entry with them as their information may feed into your form(especially if they are dependents or students). The software doesn't tell you to enter your kids info first and if you don't there's a lot of duplication required. The software has numberous occasions where it asks duplicate things/entries and that is annoying.....

Turbo Tax Premier
Overall the program is easy to use and takes no time to complete a return. The only problem that I experienced was a never ending loop at the end of the process after I filed the return it doesn't exit out of the program just goes back 4 steps and repeats itself.

It is OK
I have used TurboTax Premier and Business Incorporated for many years. It was a struggle for a number of years because the support is not great and takes a long time to reach a satisfactory answer. This is why I give a 3 star for overall rating and value. I do wish there is a competitor product so I could compare and perhaps that would make me change the rating. Also if there is a better, efficient, and more knowledgeable technical support, my rating would go up for sure. It does an adequate and smooth job if your return is not complicated. This is why I would still recommend it.

Some aspects of Turbo Tax are great transferring data from one year to the next, but on more complicated aspects like splitting of a jointly held investment property the program always went toward a formal partnership. Since the turbo tax program has this information from one year to the next, why can it not pick up where the last information came from. This reverting to the unwanted partnership prevented the tax return from being filed until we went back in to make the correction --for the third time. This definitely needs work.

Overpriced
I think Turbo Tax Premier should be sold to do only 2 returns for a much smaller amount. It is hardly any better than the standard but is required if you have any capital property.

TurboTax Issues
This was my first time using TurboTax Premier and I did have several issues. I had to enter medical receipts twice and I cannot see what the program did with pension income split and the tax benefit results. This should be visible to the user. It was a good program for me as I have foreign dividends and foreign capital gains. Overall a good program with a few tweaks recommended from my experience.

Problems I experienced this year
I have been a TurboTax user for many years and found it easy to use, but this year I experienced problems in two areas:
1. Reporting Capital Gains
Easy Step did not advise me that I do not have to manually enter the stock sale information, since it is already on the T5008 slips. It resulted in confusing information on Schedule 3, which took a lot of time to sort out.
2. TurboTax calculated the Capital Cost Allowance on my three rental properties automatically and claimed the maximum CCA on Property 1. I had a lot of difficulty in finding how to change it to what I want.
Everything else was straightforward.

2018 Premier has bugs? Disappointing!
Users of TurboTax for several years. This year's edition flagged errors that do not exist. Not easy to navigate. Progress path not easily accessed to go back to different sections. Not flexible when it comes to split charitable donations between spouses. Disappointing considering we've never had this much trouble before.

Good but it is 2019
This product is good for early 2000 but has not received a significant improvement since then. The User Experience is still clunky and needs to be revisited so that it is easier for people to follow what is going on and find opportunities to complete their taxes for the best return possible.

Disappointed
I have used Turbo Tax for years. However, this year I frequently found the program confusing and cumbersome. Some sections, such as the form on rental property, were extremely confusing and thus, time consuming.
