Contaminated disk
I have used TurboTax for many years now...and it has been getting more user friendly. I complete my taxes and that of my daughter. However this year I have had an apparent contaminated disk which has caused me no end of grief. Inputted data disappeared, I was not able to change data - even with the help of TurboTax online/phone help to a point that I had to accept incorrect data and make an amendment. Finally my return was so corrupted that I had to completely redo a completed return. I spent many hours and endured MUCH frustration on this years taxes. I was told by one consultant to not purchase a disc but rather download the program to avoid this issue again.

My Experience with TurboTax
Overall, it has been a helpful package.
I found though that at times it changes my previous selections as I move back and forth between screens during the "Easy Step" process, and thus it changes the estimates of tax refunds. As a user, I had to be very mindful of what I would consider this as an in-efficiency. I hope it be fixed in future years!

needs fundamental improvement
You should have a forms view of the ENTIRE return of the return filled up to any point just as UFILE does rather than the haphazard piece meal view you provide. I and a lot of people like me would find it much easier to keep track of what is going on rather than your program leading the filer like horse with blinders on.
Your current setup cost me close to 10 hours or so in puzzling through details for my assurance of no no errors. I discovered an error in pension splitting and capital gains that saved me $2000 after an agony of checking.
This major shortcoming mars an otherwise good product

great product, but...
nice product, but tips and warnings block out
the actual function of auto filing.
I missed it by accidents because of clicking through the warnings which did not pertain to me.also, starting a new return option is broken, and just sends you back to warning and tips option.

Not worth it
I have been using Turbo Tax for many many years and thought this year to use Premium for Stocks and rental income but I didn't find anything difference from regular program.
I paid extra money for nothing.

Using it for more than 10 years without problem. 2017 Premier got some unexpected problems/errors while trying to simply save the files. Not a good sign when a good product takes a bad route!

rental property
Rental property information kept deleting if I left it and came back. I had to start the rental property portion over again each time. The rental property is co-owned, it isn't clear how to enter the information regarding percentages for revenue and expenses.
For the price of the Premium edition (in order to file for rental properties), it would not have been much more expensive to hire an accountant.

Printing Challenge
There was a glitch trying to print our returns that took a few hours to figure out. Ended up a software error that required the program to be deleted and reloaded. It was a pain, but after a couple of hours on the phone with a well meaning support staff the problem was fixed. Better QC in the implementation would have helped but the service was great.

Great but not perfect
Does a great job certainly for most tax payers but has room for improvement for complex issues. For example, rental for property split between spouses is not automatically shown and transfer of form copies the first name and info. Many over rides are required in provincial schedules making return ineligible for net filing. Such as in medical expense limit for dependent even when no disability amount is claimed. Also deducts dependent income again when expenses split between siblings; has issues with tuition fees to carry forward, etc etc.

Good but still crashes
As long as you save your file every few steps I think it's great. Problem is the software still crashes from time to time and loses your work. This year it crashed during Netfile and lost the work of the previous 30 minutes.

GOOD BUT COULD BE BETTER
Generally a good Tax program, but it still misses a bit. [1] The working bit was OK, except it did NOT link to my 2016 return which also used TurboTax. So I could not get some 2016 data in and still continue to the end of 2017. [2] Not enough opportunity once finished to review the return before finallizing everything. [3] I saved all (I think!) but wanted to just print selected pages - I could not see a way to do this. So I ended up printing 23+17 pages - more than I needed. Print menu did not count pages before printing - or let me select from ll the pages just the ones I wanted to print... Surely these are easy things for fix -my previous Alberta software did it well....

Not as Good
I feel TurboTax has dropped the ball this year. There have been several errors such as the upgrade in which I had to manually do it myself where in past years the upgrades were a "one click" operation. Also found the ability to do two (spouse) forms kind of clumsy for some reason. Overall I feel TT needs to step up and get things functioning cleaner or I will shop elsewhere.

Capital Gains Complicated
I sold a rental property. I would have thought when I entered the amount of sale on the Rental form, either calculations would be done or there would be help as to where to go. This area needs major changes to help us that aren't accountants.
Another area that needs changing is the printing. I like to use both sides of a page and that option doesn't seem to be available.

Needs some fixing.
1. TurboTax said there were invalid characters in the name and address (which were carried over from last year). There were not any invalid characters or spaces, but I could not netfile until I selected an option to "delete ALL overrides". Fortunately the return did not require any overrides, so "removing" them did not cause a problem for me. But the program was all confused and I still could not get to netfile. I wasted well over an hour because TT was "not responding" when I selected Netfile; I tried every which way to get there (even repeating the full review process). Finally had to close and re-open TT several times before it finally went to Netfile. 2. When I am working on a return I cannot see at the top or bottom of the screen which tax return version I have. FYI this information is visible at the top of the screen in the UFile program and is VERY helpful. 3. I wish your list of all the returns available to open looked like the computer browser lists them rather than the 3" high text that's actually more difficult to read at a glance and requires scrolling to see the other returns available. I find normal-sized text so much quicker and easier to read than the gigantic text you use in so many places, that requires a lot of scrolling.

Frustrating experience
TurboTax autofills the wrong street address (adds RR1) and when I edit it to correct it, it autofills the incorrect mailing address. I use my middle given name. There is no way to enter a first initial and a middle given name.

I've been using turbo tax for years. If you have straight forward taxes it works fine but as they get more complicated this program becomes difficult.

Not so easy fill the blanc
Did not like the way the forms were filled out this year. It gets very cluttered and sometimes confusing when filling out forms for both when doing a combined. It was better in former years when you completed each person individually and did not have to jump back and forth to complete a section.

Good and not so good
More automated and as such, is quicker and easier to use....but along with the ease in downloading your tax slips from CRA comes the inability to discern what may be missing. It is also more difficult to actually read and manually make changes on forms. Plus it limits the use of the 'back' button (traps you in segments), so you have to return to the beginning if using the 'easy entry'. eFile is much more user friendly though.
