Still needs work
TurboTax seems to have fixed some of its long term errors in the 2017 version but they are still missing some Forms from the master list. Also some of the warnings and "opportunities' are of little value and just confuse things.
Still easier then filling in the tax form manully but you must run thru the entire return to insure TurboTax has not made errors or forgot to mention items.

BUG IN HOME OWNER LOAN REPAYMENT
I have used this software in past years, and I am generally satisfied. However, when a bug / software error is encountered there is no mechanism to report it and get it attended to. This was the case this year in relation to Home Ownership Load Repayment. The software did not recognize the data input and reported an error.

Fair with poor navigation
It got the job done, but not in a fun way. In a couple of places prompts did not fit on the buttons making it a challenge to navigate.

2017 premium
THE 2016 TURBO TAX PROGRAM WAS EASER TO USE THAN THE 2017 PROGRAM... I HAD ENDLESS TROUBLE GETTING THE PROGRAM TO COMPLETE THE PENSION SPLIT BETWEEN MY WIFE AND MYSELF. EVENTUALLY, I GOT GEEK SQUAD TO SORT IT OUT FOR ME. THIS SEEMS TO BE THE TYPE OF PROBLEM YOU GET WHEN SOME INDIVIDUAL DECIDES TO IMPROVE THE PROGRAM WITHOUT CHECKING ALL THE POSSIBLE USES.

Only Good - Optimizers not working
For the past several years, I notice both donation and medical optimizer are not working well, sometimes it try to maximize but used up other credit without telling you. So I have to manually adjust several times this year.

The one draw back I found with the product is of having to go and find carry forward prior years information. it should be an option on the screen like it was in the oast.

The program seemed to have problems this year.
I have used Turbo Tax for many years and has been an excellent tax program. I seemed to have more issues with this year's program. I wasn't able to input numbers as easily as before and struggled with the program.
I called in twice to customer service and they were fantastic. When I explained my struggles with the program, the customer service representative knew what I was having difficulty with.
The program is generally quite good but seemed to have some glitches this year.

not worth the extra for premier
premier was not needed to do my return although it recommedned it multiple times, t5008 does the same thing as investment gains and losses. In fact it is more confusing for turbo tax to ask you both when you are not supposed to enter details from both since it will double gains or losses and be incorrect.
Not worth the extra money this time around, was not a great guide that i was expecting for the extra money.

not really impressed this year
Usually buy the standard edition but got the premier this year because of buying a rental property. Seems fairly glitchy. Saved our returns once but got prompted 2 more times to save it again. I asked to purchase a review and audit protection. I was billed and paid for the audit protection right away and later on was asked to pay for the review and audit protection again even though the audit protection payment already went through. Although i didnt get the confirmation number printed or wrote down because the screen disappeared before I could. so I didn't get my return reviewed and dont know if i got the audit protection or not. Not really impressed this time and have been using quicktax/turbotax for at least 10 years without any problems.

not as good as last year
I have used this software and the predecessor QuickTax for over 20 years. It should be a lot better. Cannot enter in 476. Had to workaround this by doing the interview to access the field there. What a waste of time. Fields with new data do not show new data unless you save file and close then re-open tax file. A real nuisance. That has not been a problem in past years. The character resolution is poor on larger screens.

Bugs and poor support
I had big problems with extremely slow processing. Online support no use and very difficult to get to talk to a human being (9 to 5 weekdays too!!) Had to explain the problem I entered again to the live agent, they don't seem to read what you write before calling you. After lengthy discussions suggested reloading from download which was zero help. Still found a number of issues entering data. Some panels have no help. So called communities not accessible with a problem statement. Not sure I'll buy again next year.

Errors
Not as good as previous years. I've been using this product for many years, and for some reason this was the most difficult. I was continually getting an error message popping up with every screen...no shortcuts back or forth. I was disappointed, considering the price!
I do believe it has bugs.

Some unclear Parts
I had capital gains and never could find the section that one uses to apply this years gains to past years losses. A real bummer as I had to submit my tax return without being able to take full advantage of deductions that are available to me.

Premier was not worth it
After the tool recommended that I upgrade from Standard to Premier the Premier features turned out to be useless. Add insult to injury they did not even respond to my support questions. Best to use Basic or Standard and do own research .

Lack of help
Entering data is smooth and easy.....if you do it right.
I ran into 2 instances where I got an error which wouldn't let me proceed. So I tried the HELP feature. In each case I was shown an overview of the section I was in but never directed to the error I had made or given advice on how to clear up the problem.
e.g. I'm trying to file my return and have to select an option to File with CRA or print and mail. I try to select file with CRA but get a little circle with a slash through it. I can select the mail option but don't want to.
What do I do now?

Updates of CRA forms
I am having trouble downloading form changes in order to print my return. Your instructions to click on Help then click on Check for Updates doesn't show, nor putting that message in Search area doesn't work either.

It is a good basic package. I don't like the fact I can't read the forms as they are filled in, using the automated system. Being able to go between the form being filled in, and the quick method easily would be a big help.

Problems printing 2015 after install 2016
No matter what I do , I am not able to print my 2015 income taxes AFTER purchasing and installing the 2016 software.
I bought the Premier edition of 2015 and was able to complete taxes. Finally ready to print after hours and hours and hours of doing calculations for rental property and business and NOTHING.
Very very annoyed.
I can not find my 2016 disk and not even sure installing it will fix my problem with 2015. This should NOT be happening !!!

don't upgrade
I started with Turbotax Standard edition and after I entered my information it recommended that I upgrade to Turbotax Premier. After installing the upgrade there wasn't any noticeable difference. There were no extra recommendations, or extra help. Don't waste any money on their recommendations.

Challenges I faced
Have used Turbo Tax for many years. Every year I am hoping that issues are resolved to no avail. There is virtually no useful place for help. It is not intuitive at all. Rental income calculations are very hard to split with spouse. No explanation for why Netfile is not possible. No clarity on why some forms do not appear. Charity donation Wizzard gives wrong information.

RRSP Available Contribution Room
In the Easy Steps method the program asks for the amount from your Notice of Assessment (A*), but unfortunately it enters as (B*) and deducts it incorrectly as an unused contribution. A software error that can only be corrected by opening the the form and entering the actual (B*) amount.

good with some glitches
Overall works fairly well and support is available. There were some unique situations the software did not handle and TT should make users aware before they spend time trying to remedy. For eg , joint preparation did not work when donations get split or carry forward. For some reason not all boxes from T5008s are transferred in autofill and need to be manually entered.

Good product, with one annoying flaw
This program leads the user on a step by step process of filling out a tax return. It is clear, comprehensive and thorough. It helped me identify tax savings and provided tips for next year's tax planning. I moved this year and it helped me identify all the moving expenses that I could deduct. I am also a partner in some rental properties and it helped me identify the expenses, calculate the Net Income and Capital Cost Allowance, and divide that among the partners for each property.
My biggest criticism is that there is no auto-save function built into it. I find that an astonishing omission for a product of this complexity. I had my tax return mostly complete, after 10 hours of work, only to discover the next time I opened the program, that none of what I had done was saved, and all the data entry had to be redone. It took me another ten hours to redo it all! Next year, I will be looking for a product that will periodically save my work.
