turbo tax
would be greatly improved with standard tools like copy/paste for filling in medical expenses and like forms/dialogue boxes.
Also should be more intuitive - use default year for example when entering dates

Still basic
Having multiple returns open simultaneously would be a great feature and take Turbo Tax out of the DOS based configuration. Helpful when completing returns for your spouse.

not as good as usual
I found that the program did not carry forward some of the information such as addresses and language preferences on some of the returns. This involved having to make changes as we went through the review process.
My biggest disappointment in this years program was the size of the numbers as you enter data, the small numbers until you move to the next box allows for input errors that have to be redone. As we age we need larger print, not smaller.
I have used this program for years and in some ways I feel this year was a letdown but then again there were some new things that I found very good, so I have to say there were both good and not so good changes for this year.
I hope you can make the print size larger for the 2014 tax returns and look forward to using TurboTax again next year.

Aggravating
Why can't T 5008 and T5013 forms be easy to fill out, it seems dumb that you can't enter some of the info on to the forms that is on the slips. I'm thinking of getting out of investments because this is becoming such a pain in the butt to try and figure out

Generally good, but a few bugs
Overall the product is helpful and an excellent way to keep track of tax information from year to year.
However there are a few bugs and places in the product where it does not retain information - most notably in the wizard which will erase information and force you to re-enter it if you try to go back. (This happened for me in the rental income wizard, where it lost information the second time around even after I saved).
Another place where it is incorrect is the foreign income summary form where the total shown in the UI does not take into account the exchange rate so it does not match the information which is eventually used for the form.

I really like the ease of the program and how it works BUT please leave out all the ads for all the other programs available. This is rather annoying and delays the efficiency of the program.

I decided to try this software package and I wish that I hadn't - it is not user friendly, too many advertisements for other products to purchase, and I do not feel that it was good value for what I paid.
I used this product only because I paid for it but for any future years I will not use TurboTax again

Calculations - income or expense splitting
There seems to be errors in the software related to interest revenue splitting amongst spouses using percentages in the software. The calculations does not occur and I had to calculate the amounts manually. This is when you used the combined returns option. Also, the software can be deceiving in the questions. I had to return several times to ensure that the figures were correctly entered. Sometimes they were not.

Good Purchase
Product covers all of the basics and is reasonably easy to use. Helpful to load info from last year's return and to provide advice during tax preparation.
Two items needing improvement:
1. One screen required that I select "more boxes" to enter further info for my income slips. Almost missed this.
2. When NETFiling, product required me to go back and check all of my "interest and other income" slips and ensure that they added up to an amount that TurboTax had already totalled. I had to re-enter data that TurboTax already had!!! I was not happy having to do that.
Otherwise, the product is pretty good.

issue with jointly-reported income
TT does not easily allow one to duplicate input data when jointly filing spousal returns . For example, if spouses jointly hold an investment account 50/50, or have a joint farming operation, , TT should automatically populate the other spouse's return after the first spouse's data is entered. At present it requires manual re-entry of data in the second return, which is a needless shortcoming.

Good but could be a bit better
I find it impossible to check that I have entered information from the T Slips other than to look at the forms where they are entered - which is a bit onerous.
There is a form when Net filing that says the interest income total should match the one shown. How the heck is anyone supposed to get the totals to add up to only the 4 categories shown? How would I know from the source total given, where that total came from.
The questions below are "strange"? I quit filling out this form.

Mostly the program is very easy to use, but some items are assumed, therefore making it harder to claim. ie: assuming that a person wants to forward donations when you do want to claim for this year.

Dependants income
When asking for the allocation of UCCB Turbo Tax should then ask for the dependants income. Later in Turbo Tax I got an error message basically saying Do you confirm that your dependant has zero income. Yes or No. Well, an UCCB allocation was already made so neither response was really correct. Its hard to find where to enter the dependants income. I was really confused on this one.

Great product , many improvements this year. But as always there is always some glitch. After about 3 hours doing a business return turbo tax just decided to quit working and shut down.
I was very disappointed when I reopened and found I had lost everything I had just done.
An automatic save or a popup reminder to save every few minutes would have saved me a lot of grief.

I have used Turbo Tax for several years and found this year some what confusing. Because I have used it before I could go back few years and confirm the mistakes the program had made or I did because I was confused. This was the first time I had to call to get problems solved.

Mixed Value
For the price, I find this product falls a bit flat. I found parts of the process clumsy, and some part of the process just plain goofy (esp having to account for income from Canadian sources, although the income was actually foreign, just before netfiling).

Did it help?
This was the first time I have tried using tax return software as I have always done my taxes manually in the past. I found it helpful in some ways: it was nice to have all the calculations done for me and to have an instant tax payable/refund figure to refer to. It was nice not to have to try to make neat readable entries or to have to make a copy to mail and a backup copy for my records. However I found it restrictive in some ways, as I could not make clarification notes against entries , and surprisingly, I found it did not really make the tax return process much easier or quicker. Filing tax returns is a pain no matter what way you tackle it! The hard work is in gathering all the data you need and ensuring it is entered properly and ensuring that you have taken advantage of all possible tax reduction opportunities. The software tries to make that easier for you but it is much better if you know what you are doing yourself. I still ended up mailing my tax returns so I could gain control of what was actually sent and be sure of what was sent.
Would I use it again? Yes I probably would.

problems on site
1. if moving, turbotax can alter the distances entered! have to go to forms to correct
2. programme didn't catch that students get to claim deduction for months in school for books and education
3. if defer first-ever charitable contribution system, programme forces an error by calculating the 2013 Super Contribution 25% ... had to remove manually.
4. the helpline was helpful, but you really need to know your tax stuff to help guide them; when you do, they get it and can escalate to get answers for you. if system worked well, wouldn't need to bother them

Turbo Tax
Turbo Tax should be able to calculate automatically in areas of splitting income, medical expenses, etc. and put the information on the return that gives the largest tax saving.
Turbo Tax does not explain on each individual return that you enter only once any amount that is split 50/50 with your spouse, so as you go through each return and enter data, if you enter an amount for your spouse and split 50/50 then go to your return and answer the questions you actually re-enter the same data, thinking this T-5 we split 50/50, so you enter this amount and indicate 50/50, only this creates a double entry and you are paying on the same amount twice. Following Turbo Tax instructions, this is a very easy mistake to make.

Not as reliable as past years
Although Turbo Tax is the best tax prep software for personal use out there I found it not as good as past years. There are too many little glitches that the average taxpayer doesn't know about. The only way I got through our returns successful was my 14 years experience working in a tax office.

Glitches
There are some glitches that make the process very frustrating. I actually think paper was almost easier and faster. I kept trying to imput km. distance for a move and the software kept defaulting back to a different number that was not within the 40km needed to allow the moving expense deduction. I finally had to go to "forms" and fill it in, so much for the fast and easy steps. The Q & A is helpful, if you happen to find the one that relates.
There is definitely room for improvement. This should be so much easier.
