Worst purchase ever
This tool keeps crashing on CRA file transfer without timing out or requesting to cancel from user manual input. At one point my tax was corrupted.

terrible product. Have used for more than 20 years. Very slow and frustrating. seized up on numerous occasions. printed the wrong return numerous times. kept asking the same questions over and over. was very wasteful of paper even when finally printing the correct return

not as good
I have used Turbotax many years... never had so many issues , particularly with conflict between firefox and turbotax.
I am using the downloaded version... no historical info is available from online version I used previously... like 2 different companies ... poor integration

Use cautiously
For the second time CRA have reassessed my returns due to 'missing' T4s. My printed copy of the return shows the needed data but CRA auditor remained steadfast. TurboTax does not provide proof of what was 'transmitted' to CRA.

Careful
I submitted a 2021 return for myself and my spouse by deadline. Paid for audit defense, filled out a survey, got a confirmation.
Fast forward, no sign of my money or return, BUT the charge for audit defense was applied on the deadline.
Now I had to re-submit my already submitted return for myself & my spouse which also reduced the tax return count.

Some Confusion and Margin for error in TurboTax
Simplest return? Then you are fine but the Software does allow you to make mistakes. often chooses or unchecks boxes that you have already dealt with earlier and why it teases you with a larger return than you end up getting once you have to tell it (yet again) that you are married (after you have already entered marital status at the beginning of the return is beyond me. I believe marital status is brought up a couple of times before getting to the infamous "Canada Workers Benefit". It tells you there is no harm in claiming it even though you have already reduced your taxes payable or increased your return by the mystery $1395 "Other Credit" I had no clue about much earlier in the return so I claimed and it reduced my return by $1200. No harm? lol. Or if you skip it forces you to correct via the Error message before you file. I just think the handling of a few things within this software over the years allows you to make mistakes or misleads you a bit. Medical receipts for example...I have always claimed on wife's higher income return and refund goes up but at some point if you allow the software to perform the "optimization" of medical expenses it automatically assumes you want the claim on the lower income Spouse and returns the claim to lower income spouse even though much earlier you chose the higher income spouse to maximize the refund amount as you went along. Why the software doesn't detect that you have already accomplished a legitimate increase in the refund amount earlier by claiming in this way is another mystery. If not caught after optimization your refund is decreased by the software and you might be non the wiser (or scratching your head as to wear a few hundred bucks just went). You do have to fiddle with certain credits and who claims them with "trial runs"...the software will allow you to hurt your own return if your not careful. Another more recent question that had me scratching my head was the warning about the Climate Action Incentive credit, asking you to confirm that you lived outside a Census Metropolitan area? I never claimed I did, I do not... so that is why the checkbox was left unchecked earlier yet in the review it seems to be directing you to check the box? What am I missing here? I could go on about strange "glitchy-like" happenings and handling "brain farts" in a few small areas of this software over the years that at least leaves the amateur tax person scratching their heads in confusion and leaves a few things unclear or questionable for such a person and they definitely don't leave you feeling so foolproof using this software. I'm sure some pro "mathletes" programmed the software to make flawless calculations and it may do that well but there is no "human factor" transferred by the humans that made the software and that leaves a larger than acceptable margin for your own human error that may just net you a more horrible refund or have you owing unnecessarily. I'm hiring a professional from here on out. if your return is more difficult or you have a business steer clear. I paid well over $60 after taxes just to ask a question and had someone join me on screen mirroring to answer. I assumed it would be an entire return review as the option suggested. What a HUGE Rip off.

Frustrated
I have been a Turbo Tax user since 2010. Last year, with Covid and lock downs, I used the online version. I found out this year that I could not import any of the data or relevant information from the previous tax year(s) and had to search out and re-enter manually. I also found that many other customers suffered the same frustration. Fix this Turbo Tax or I will go elsewhere!

lots of promises
i mistakenly purchased the online version thinking i could go online and download turbotax. the online version is stripped down and forms are not available. i contacted turbotax and was sent a link so i could apply for a refund and i could buy the download version from them right away.
4 calls and promises and a month later and still nothing. i gave up and went back to costco and got a refund. although intuit told me the refund could onlt be done through them. we shall wait and see. i have been using turbo tax and before that quick tax for over 30 years. this will be my last year with intuit.

irritating feature
I pay a premium price to get a programme designed for investors. In this day and age a sensible investor will invest in several overseas locations. I can not efile or even fill out my T1135 on my Turbo tax programme because it only provides space for 3 countries and my portfolio includes investment in 12 different countries.

Not easy to follow. Have to go to google in order to find definitions. Gives the option to close forms not used before printing then doesn't close them so end up printing a bunch of empty forms. Have been using TurboTax since 2015 and seems to be getting less user friendly.

The medical optimzer insisted on MAXIMIZING how much the CRA gets. Imported T-slips had correct info, but summary showed zero dollars. Forced through the review/warning/tips more than once, and all but one were a waste of time. Buggy software.

Difficulties
I Found it difficult to enter data for a husband and wife, jointly - especially for investment income. The T5 and T3 investment income requires entering each income component rather than just recording the totals in each info box. This is a colossal waste of time which duplicates the info already received by CRA. Competing the T5008 to indicate a 50/50 split for cap gains/losses similarly was made difficult as the allocations didn't seem to stick and I had to do it at least twice for many. Ditto for the income type. I believe using the guided method and entering all the investment info for one spouse and indicating a 50/50 split should have been the answer but it didn't seem to be. I also didn't like the many interruptions to "offer" me assistance (at price) or move me up to a more expensive product. I am looking to see what other tax prep software providers are offering. I don't need a multi-return product. I only do ours and should be able to find something for half the price I paid..

Deteriorating quality
have used Turbo tax for a number of years now. Have to say, this year, there are a lot of bugs, lots of going in circles. Printing on netfile - 4 pages with only 1 page of any value. Printing returns, ask to depress printing on forms with no info.... wasted a ton of paper and ink on virtually blank forms. very clunky this year. i will look for another product next year

Unnecessary
Why do we file taxes when the CRA already has this info?
Response from Intuit Canada:By Intuit TeamMarch 29, 2022
Hello. When an employer, government entity, or financial institution issues you a T-slip for anything – employment income, investments, pensions, social assistance – a copy is sent to the CRA. This information is then used to file a tax return each year.

premier version is not worthy it
When using the standard version, it asked me to upgrade as I chose the "capital gain" option even though it's just simple stock buy/sell. So to be on the safe side, I did the return using standard edition, upgraded to premier edition and then did the same return again from scratch. Both came back identical results! So I wasted $45 for nothing. Will never buy again.

Be careful while using optimizers
Optimizers used changed the refund amount that was only retrieved by closing the return and start from scratch again... reversing amounts never brought back the original refund amount.

this trouble once before and had to replace the software. As it is Apr.30 I ignored some obvious problems (like not balancing the capital gains between out 2 returns even though I honestly checked them SEVERAL times. Will probably get another intuit tax software next year but if I have trouble i will try someone else.
