Not as good as previous years
I've been using Quicktax/TurboTax for 15+ years. This year, there were bugs in the CD, needed two calls to the support centre to get it working. Software prompts weren't as good as before, some outdated/odd information. It doesn't feel as well researched/supported as before... but it's still better than doing my taxes by hand!!

keepsasking smae question???
why does it keep telling my that my return has changed and do I want to save it again. I save it again and then it asks the same question. Your return has been modified, do you want to save it? I already did. Why does it keep asking this?????

Errors in the software handling of T4 data
Have used this software for years. All is fine until your return becomes a little more complicated, like when you retire. The help is net very helpful and the software made mistakes in filling the schedules using T4 information. That turned into errors during the final review. If you want to rectify the errors and override the values, you are warned that you are no longer able to E-file. All in all, I was very disappointed.

Looping
the system keeps looping back after filing and asks for NAICS codes. These codes are not available from the Statistics Canada website as their site is presently down. Why don't you have theses codes in the TurboTax package. Google works for getting these codes.. This failure, on your part stops people from Net filing today.

I am still not clear why the premium was recommended. I have a regular income and expense stream, with only a dozen mutual funds. seems like a wasted purchase beyond standard.
Secondly, the capital gains from sale of mutual funds could be calculated from the T5008 schedule, or following schedules. Not clear which to use and not explained well.

Glitch laden
Rental property details have gliteches. Does not overwrite the new information entered. Keeps on going back to the previous information. Also rental summary for joint property holders varies even if specified as 50% holding for each. Percentage holding keeps on disappearing and allocates 100% to the first holder.

confusing and glitchy
The interactive guide is confusing "do you have a T4A?". Apparently the T4A my son has is not the first T4A they talk of.,
Printing is confusing Got one set of popups for CRA submission for my son but didn't get same version for me (name_2017_CRA)
Took as long as doing it by hand. Warnings pop up "If you...." but you can't find out If the IF you, applies to you!. So much for the interactive .....

Very Disappointed!
Some kind of error that will not let me send my wife's after I efiled mine. Wont let me print a proper copy to mail. Lost and very disappointed. other years it was great. but this time is stinks. will not buy again.

Works but could be improved
Does the job but has problems. It did not properly process the import of T4PS and in one incidence it allow me to exit without saving the changes. I also found it difficult to report problems.

Worst Experience Ever
After using computer-based tax-prep for many years, TurboTax 2017 was the worst, mostly because TWICE it hung in the process of interacting with CRA.

T5008 not covered well
I found this years program much harder to negotiate that in years past. The explanation of T5008 requirements lead me to do the form when I did not need to fill out the form as I have managed investments. I was paying capital improvements on stock twice.

software works like mud
cant believe how difficult to move around forms. The process to net file is horrible. Trying to end and save file is cumbersome and onerous. I will not use your product in 2018

Not backward compatible
Turbotax is a so-so program. It makes lots of mistakes unless you have very simple taxes. But, the absolutely worst feature of it is that the current year version cannot open old returns. There is no excuse for that, and it can cost you lots of time.

Disapponted this year
I've been using TurboTax for many years but I have to say that I've never encountered so many program errors like this year: from incomplete sentences to skipping forms on the spouses return and jumping straight to summaries... I hope the Intuit people will take their job more seriously in the future.

Turbo Tax 2017 - meh
I don't know exactly what you guys did this year but, the ease of use wasn't nearly as good as years past. I've been using this program as far back as the Quicktax days. This was the worst year.

business part is confusing
I have used Turbo Tax for a number of years. This year upgraded to Premier. I found the Business part confusing and difficult to change if you make mistakes. For example initially checking 'Professional Income' and then realizing it should be business other results in the Professional income forms continuing to be part of the package. Difficult to get any help on this.

Not as good as previous years' version
I have used TurboTax for over 6 years. The 2017 version was the weakest one yet. There are a lot of nice changes in how data is entered with the "automatic" method. However problems started when none of the optimizers appeared. I have the Premier edition of the 2017 software which has the optimizers included. It took some playing around to get the optimizers to appear. The charitable contributions and health expense optimizers took the "usual" approach and assigned the deductions to the taxpayer with the lowest income (me). It should have checked that I had no taxable income because I did not work during 2017 and don't have a pension plan. The deductions did not help my return. When I switched the deductions to my wife's return the tax refund increased by 27%.
An error alert kept re-appearing saying that clicking the button did not work because "the server was busy". The first time this happened, I found Windows calculator was open and TurboTax did not like it. The dozen or so other alerts were "false news" for real.
There is a small probability that some of the problems might have been because I use Windows 10. I used Windows 10 and TurboTax 2016 last year without problems so it has to be TurboTax 2017 at fault. In summary, TurboTax 2017 has some nice features if they were done properly. Instead, I found this year's version had sloppy programming. I am a CPA and have done hundreds of tax returns with different tax software. Doing my family's tax returns this year is among the most frustrating returns I have done.

Return Good but system has glitches
After return filed. i cannot continue it brings me back to file page. Also keep on getting some script fail. Like the program but for last 5 years never had a problem.

Too many script errors
This year's version was very annoying. With every press of a button to move forward I had to resolve multiple script errors. This made the whole process far more tedious than usual.

Needs work
Lots of serious issues with the basic functioning of the program. I would recommend this product (since I had to answer the question) only with reservations.
1. Often when double clicking on a cell with a value determined elsewhere, the program did nothing instead of directing me to the appropriate form as claimed.
2. On line 301 of Schedule 1 Turbo Tax would not permit me to access the required Federal Worksheet to sort out the age amount tax credit. (Could I claim this or not and how much?) Turbo Tax was incapable of providing any information on this item. I had to go directly to CRA to get information and worksheet.
3. While reviewing the forms I often found blank cells that obvious were not zero. For example, line 235 on the general form was blank, but lines 234 and 236 were not equal. And there were many other examples on several forms. On occasion the information would mysteriously reappear How can one properly review their work when some of the information is not showing? I have used computer financial worksheets since the mid 1980s and have never seen something as pathetic as this.
4. Similar to the financial blank cells, other information such as my address and language preference would often disappear.
5. Impossible to input my email information - Why?
I have used Turbo Tax for many years and was generally very pleased with the process. BUT for 2017 my experience was NOT satisfactory. Dropping information and showing blank cells which contain data is not acceptable.

Not user friendly
I have used this program for a number of years and find it less and less reliable. Pop up correction of entries by default overrides entered data after a cursory analysis (similar numbers must be typos). Not easy to follow how the Easy Step panels work and there seem to be anomalies between the correct treatment and what is applied. I spent an inordinate amount of time checking things this year and don't trust the program's logic. I also had terrible trouble getting it to work in a reasonable delay (after entries) and there help line was useless. They can't actually diagnose problems and basically default to suggesting uninstall and reinstall which is extremely time consuming and provides no benefits. I'm going to look for another way to do our taxes next year.

GLITCHES!
I cannot get the program to exit out and start a new return after I finish and submit...it keeps going back to the return I just finished and asks if I want to save the changes and even if I click yes, it keeps cycling back over and over and won't let me start a new return! UGH!! I have never had this problem in previous years but it's awful this year...there were a couple of other things that were glitches as well, but this was most frustrating!
