Same old interface
Mediocre Interface. Feels like its written for Windows 3.1.

For the very non computer tech people, this was difficult. Hard to understand and to take it all in.
A start up list before you start would be suggested. I thought I had everything in order ready to go until we started. Back to the tax people next year.

Very Confusing
I found that this program was confusing in the area of income splitting. I purchased the Premier addition for that reason. The program should fill out the spouse's portion after you indicate that you are splitting income, investment income, Capital gains and losses.
although it may do this in the background ( not sure ) it does not show on the forms, so you don't know what is or isn't being split or even reported.

Some good, some bad
TurboTax should take info I enter (ex: 0 dependents) and adjust additional fields in conseqence, but it does not. Does not group data entry in user-friendly fashion. Even had additional info to enter when starting to file online (unacceptable)!

I have been locked into Turbo Tax for several years. Although electronic tax completion has its advantages, Turbo Tax let me down this year, as I was forced to re-enter all of my tax info a 2nd time due to a glitch in the Turbo Tax software. I wasted an hour of my time.

Bugs need fixing!
I have used QuickTax and now Turbo Tax since their beginning and never had experienced any, any bug issues until now. NOT impressed! Quality has gone downhill this year. On the fence to buy again unless you can assure customers that all bugs are fixed.

note that dispositions cannot be pro-rated!
turbotax needs to take the proportion calculator and apply it to dispositions similar to investment income - would have made my life easier!!

Logic Needs Tightening Up
This is a prime example of a product that takes all sorts of time to ask you lots of up front questions and then ignores your answers to ask you all over again. For example, if you say you don't have any RRSP slips, you're still asked about recording and optimizing them! Very annoying - the programmers need to pay more attention to the logic and workflows - if I've said I'm single - why are you asking me again about my martial status?!? If my age is such that I don't qualify for some deductions (and you already have my birth date up front!), why offer the choice of trying to claim it????

difficult
Used the Easy Step........found it difficult to navigate through our two returns. Also found it difficult to review and to amend input errors. Feel I may have unintentionally filed an incorrect return. Although I have used TurboTax for about 4 years this will probably be my last time.

Frustrating to Use
I have used Turbo tax and some of its predecessors for many years and usually have found it simple and easy. This year I am very frustrated. I have experienced pop up boxes that don't close and printing the return for filing is not easy. If you follow the instructions you will never print or at least it is not obvious to the user. I also did the final return for my father who passed last year. You could do some work to customise the return to make it easier to do a final return. Overall I am not impressed with your product this year.

Best Purchase Ever, NOT.
Easy Step and Forms are locked and not easy to navigate. Couples features are locked in Easy Step and does not allow adjustments as if you were to do the paper format. Took about as long to enter data and play around with the software as it would doing it by hand on paper.

Works but unbelievably slow this year
Bought the installed version. Very slow naviagation, 3-4 s per page when doing the questionaire.
Constantly asks me the same warning questions even though I went through this before.
Netfile was simple and good.
The slowness of the software made it almost impossible to stand using.

I find the 2012 product very slow. It took twice as long to complete a simply return as it did last year.
I can't print from Turbo Tax because it won't recognise my printer. thank goodness for PDF files because they print no problem

Some big shortfalls
I've relied on Intuit for years but every year, I begrudge how much more efficient it could be, from small to big things. The way the cursor highlights everything rather than a point when clicking on a box, how hard it is to go back to a specific page.
A big problem (seems only this year) was with calculating rental income. The program doesn't seem to take into the many expenses (repairs, office expenses) in calculating net income. I had to just enter my gross income as net and null all the expenses. I hope I don't get audited for this peculiarity.
This experience has undermined my faith in the software. If they've missed this one, who knows how many other things they've missed.

Not Too Good
I found that this version was difficult to move around in and after ammending info you had to mess around going through the various steps to return to where you were. As an example if you use the optimizer and then go back where you were it is not user friendly. Not enough info and too many steps to move around. I didn't find this with previous years. When asked for help it wasn't TurboTax answers that are given and that is what one expects not a collection of blurbs from other people. You didn't do a good job and wasted too much of my time.

Avoid use of TRANSFER
Information that is "transferred" from the previous year becomes locked-in and cannot be removed. If situations change and something from last year no longer applies such as being "self employed" then tough luck. One has to re-enter everything from the very beginning including the personal information. There is no ability to copy and paste or edit.
I had to enter all data 3 times before I could get around this problem. Took hours. What a waste (time, printer paper, & printer ink).

What about Stock Tracker
Been using Quicktax for years, originally went to Premium to get the Stock Tracker product. I appreciated being able to use it again in 2010 with Turbo Tax...but now it gone. Not too happy.
Will stay with Turbo Tax until someone makes something better. Miss the Quick Tax.
PS... it should be able to optimize Tuition transfers better.
