Great - was able to upgrade
Excellent - I originally started with Standard but Turbo tax found my need as Premier & allowed to upgrade instantly for the difference in cost -which is great without making you buy new.

Makes Tax Time Easier
Without TurboTax I'd probably have to get an accountant to do my taxes. EasyStep makes it so much easier to prepare my own taxes.

Family Tax Guy
I look after filing 3 generations of family tax returns from my Mom's to my kids. Hopefully I am around long enough to do the grandkids as well. I have a finance background and a reasonable understanding of tax. Initially I was unsure about using these software packages but they do save a lot of time. This is the 3rd year I have used it now and I find TurboTax has gotten much better each year. It handles the broad array of various tax issues and scenarios that my family throws at me. I use the Premium product it works great. I definitely recommend using it if you are looking at investing in a tax reporting software.

Excellent Product

Does not auto fill
I did both my wife's and my return.
It allowed me to auto fill(import) all federal slips but did not give the option to auto fill(import) her federal slips. This was not corrected despite repeated calls to Turbo Tax.
Clearly this is a glitch. Even for joint filing this option should exist for both partners and not just one by allowing us to click
on either name.
I hope it will be fixed for 2018, I have used Turbo tax and its predecessors for 18 years and would like to continue to use it.

Still my ideal way to do taxes
My biggest complaint still remains the optimizers, I don't understand why they recommend me to cause my tax payable to increase. Maybe you should save them until the entire return is complete before going into it, and if charitable donations, RRSP, medical expenses, etc. affecting each other should be one big optimizer screen with multiple tabs, and a summary tab with slider for each. Also, there needs to be more explanation for non-intuitive results and robust checks to flag abnormal situations.

well worth the modest price
I used one of the free tax return versions last year to complete my family's returns after several years of having them done by an accountant, since our returns are now less complicated than they used to be. However, the free version didn't offer any suggestions for determining who should make deductions, such as is available with the optimizer tools. The optimizer tools in Turbotax are invaluable. Plus it also makes several suggestions and forces you to check for missing information, etc., which the free version I used last year didn't do (and I made a mistake). Some of the navigation was a little clumsy, such as if you wish to find the details of entries already made. However, the main panel will always lead you where you want to go. I am so glad I used Turbotax this time. It really helped maximize our returns and I love that I didn't need to fill out any individual schedules. Optimizers rock!

Separate tax owing or refund
The tax owing or refund on the left side of the tax return should show the tax owing or refund for each individual person. When doing returns for myself and my spouse the left side of the return shows NET tax owing or refund for both people combined. This could lead to paying the wrong amount for the person owing because the refund for the other person has been deducted from the first person's amount owing. Confusing.

Worked as you would expect
Been using it for over a decade, it's my default choice to do my taxes. Have some moderate complications but find I'm able to sort out what I need to get the taxes filed right. Haven't had a problem ever.
