Handy but not perfect
I use TurboTax every year, and it is quick and easy to use. I like the way it calculates everything for me, finds tax breaks I wouldn't necessarily have thought of, and can process mine and my husband's at the same time. For the most part, I just need to enter in all my forms, however, this year there was a problem in my dad's return. He had excess RRSP contributions which the program automatically took as deductions even though my dad is retired with no RRSP room. Luckily I saw this problem, but I was unable to change the form, since deducting 0 would automatically revert to the whole amount. Finally I deducted 1 cent, and calculated the taxes that way. TurboTax is easy and helpful, but you need to be aware of what you are calculating, and not completely reliant on the program.

Election to stop CPP
this area is not well prepared. when you try to elect to stop CPP on self employment the software gives you the run around. You should be able to do self employment separately but only if you elect to do on employer deductions...
I had to delete the whole return and reenter to see if I could get around it and it would not let me.

Time + Savings = TurboTax
Love the program for income splitting. The Errors section is a nightmare at times, when explanations for how to fix errors are incomplete. As well, when Netfiling, instructions for how to locate the .tax file are weak. Otherwise, this is a good way to do one's taxes, provided you have lots of time and computer skills.

program problems
I would love to recommend Turbo Tax but it seems that every year there is a gliche somewhere in the program, i.e. fitness amount even after amount was entered did not populate to the dependant credit summary, Turbo Tax did not open easily - had to click several times and lastly, problem trying to netfile my return. I believe this should be checkedthoroughly before putting it out in the market. There are lot of disgruntled and disappointed people as viewed by all the comments I kept seeing.

TurboTax works
I started off filling out tax returns by hand... first in pencil then in pen. I've been using this (and its predecessor products) for many years now and have remarked on the gradual improvement over time. Every year it gets a little easier even though our returns get a little more complicated - now that's heading in the right direction!
There are one or two places where the flow is a little stilted, the questions are a little confusing or the answers needed are a little unclear, but the product catches any glitches later one and mostly I have no problems.

Great Product
I have been using this product for as long as I can remember (before QuickTax became TurboTax). I've always been pretty satisfied with how easy it is to use. An improvement would be to be able to print out or save in pdf format the detailed tax summary and the year over year comparisons.

Worth the Investment
This product provides a simple, and clear path to accomplish something that every Canadian needs to do every year with very little pain. There is no excuse not to try to do this exercise on your own. It is great to share with other family members and really costs very little for the size of the return you may get.
Effectively, I would say this investment is big bang for your buck.

Little Harder this year
I have always enjoyed Quicktax/Turbotax in the past. However, this year's new Family Caregiver amount was not addressed clearly in the Easystep interview. If the person in question was a spouse then it was straightforward, but if it was another eligible family member then it really wasn't easy to enter. Please make it easier for next year.

Who needs a wife?
With TurboTax I no longer need to ask my wife stupid little questions about what things are and what they mean to my tax return.
And she LOVES it! Life is good, I just got home after a cruddy day at work, dreaded doing my taxes and here I am, a half hour later and I am relaxed and done. Of course, it would have been better if I had not owed, but hey, that's government for you.

Good Buy
This product is very good for filling out your tax information. I had a major problem with the NETFILE portion of this program, in fact, took 2 days to figure out what was wrong. I thought I had all the TurboTax updates but turned out I didn't. I was very frustrated and wished I had a phone number to call for assistance.

Netfile video didn't work
When getting to the final stages of filing, there is an option that offers a video of what to do. Unfortunately it did not work. The internet browser screen would start downloading lots of random characters but no video came up. I tried a few times and always the same result.
Other than that, the software was ok to use.

Watch for RRSP Errors
Asks if you want to claim provincial credits/HST, then when you answer positive, another screen says your family income is too high. As you've already imputed your family income, when it comes to HST /Prov. credits, system should tell you if you're eligible to apply. Also Unused RRSP should not automatically be shown as a deduction as this info could be wrong (which was the case for me-tried to explain problem last year, same problem occurred this year, which I had to manually override)

Support Survey
The survey following my support session failed to appear. But I would like to give Nitish B an excellent rating for resolving my problem. Fairly painless

Reliable & Time Saving!
I have been using Turbo Tax and its predecessor for several years and I sure do not miss the days of drafting forms, following the tax guide and doing all the calculations myself. This is a huge time saver and gave me confidence to keep preparing my own tax return, all without incurring fees from professional tax accountants (sorry guys).

Want to scroll thru screens
I have used Quick tax for many many years. The one continuing drawback is that the tool is not very user friendly when moving back and forth thru the return. The "go to" function is not as good as it could be.
Suggest being able to scroll thru pages that already have input, vs having to re-confirm on each screen.

Satisfied, Once Suggestion...
Generally satisfied with TurboTax. Have used it for years, never had any trouble. Easy Step wizard is great for beginners. Only suggestion is that the optimization wizards should select the option that eliminates the scenario where one spouse has a balance owing and one spouse gets a refund, if the total combined refund is the same.
The scenario I encountered was around charitable donations, medical expenses, etc. (the items you can allocate to one or the other) where either of us could claim the amount and it made no difference in the total combined refund, but the Optimizer didn't recognize that one of us had a balance owing. It would seem to be more 'optimal' if the total combined refund doesn't include one of the spouses to pay an amount.
Maybe an improvement for next year.
