Yet Another Tax Year!
Several years ago I took a course on tax preparation. Having that knowledge made walking through the software easy. When I was in doubt the "Help" button was very helpful. At one point I was thinking about taking my return to a professional. Then the forms I needed appeared.

Quickest way to do taxes

Quarterly instalments
When being asked for the maount of quarterly installments the question should be: What is the Total of your insatllments for 2012. Otherwise some users may only insert the amount of each quarterly installment. I know I did initially. Thank you

Suggestions
Please allow a means to fix the locations of icons at the bottom. They are all jumbled and get re-jumbled every time the program is opened. Especially required for joint returns.
Also, there is no way to exit from this review panel.

HST Accounting
Everything is easy except when you come to the accounting of the HST/GST for business income. It was not clear enough how to calculate the amounts to put in if you have an election etc.

I have used TurboTax products for a number of years to file my taxes, and they made a BIG difference in understanding my tax situation, ensuring I get the best return, and ease of filing. My only criticism is that the font is somewhat difficult to read -especially as I get older! I would recommend changing the font colour ro black, and either making it larger, or providing an option for magnification.

"Take me to" could use more tweaking
1. I found it difficult to get back to review pages I was looking for. In particular, carrying charges for investment fees, and investment claims.
2. Turbo tax is very good if you have a form with boxes and can just plug in numbers. but if you are claiming capital gains with out a form it is not easy.

A learning process in progress
Learned quite a bit about income tax can and can'ts by using the Easy-Step-thru method (used to use Forms method).
One flaw tho when it comes to printing a copy for records. There are much too many unnecessary pages printed (waste of paper) when only the basic pages with pertinent data on them are needed.
I'm a retired senior for many years now.

Needs Mac version, or I won't ...
I was very disappointed when I purchased this on my Macbook just to find out I couldn't download it. I do my families taxes (8) & I don't want to do them online. I am really hoping that for 2013 taxes you will have a Mac download/cd version available.
I would like to stay a loyal customer all you need is a good techi. :)

Easy Filing
This is the 3rd year I have used TurboTax and I don't know how I ever did my taxes without it. My only advice is to be very careful about what answers you give in the personal tax information section. One misplaced tick can make a big difference on your return. Luckily I noticed the error on the form view before I filed! It was very easy to fix and easy to make any changes along the way.

Why not for Mac computers?

Freedom to complete taxes on my time
I've been using this product for 5 years now. I work as a book keeper so am comfortable completing our uncomplicated returns at home. With a job, 3 kids and a house to run I like that can file my taxes around my crazy schedule, from home, in a pair of yoga pants ;). I did have to go hunting for the Northern residents deduction as it didn't prompt for it, but it was easy to find. 2 returns completed and net filed in less than two hours with a school run in there, well done...

Great program except this year there was a problem with the address not accepting the period. (I.e., St.)
This was not stated in the instructions, so time was wasted figuring out why the address was incorrect. Fortunately, there was a link to common questions on the page where I discovered the problem by reading other customers' remarks. The link to common questions was very helpful.

Logic Tests
There appear to be some basic logic checks missing. When doing a return for a single person between 50-55 I don't see why there is a review comment about the Ontario Senior Homeowner's grant/benefits. Similarly, the program provides a review comment about a CPP agreement that clearly does not apply to someone in that age range. There was also a review comment about optimizing charitable donations, which was obviously not applicable to this person. You provide "Smart Tips", but a lot of your review comments are "Dumb".

Good program - but could be better
Good program and it is easy to use. But it should be a bit more smarter than it is now.
Every year, after collecting all my income, it asks me whether I want to apply for the various credits, WITHOUT making any recommendations. So, I have to waste my time to go to the government site, enter all my income and other info which I already entered into TT for them to tell me that I don't qualify. Then I go back to TT and have to say "No, I don't want to apply".... C'mon.. Very unnecessary. The most laughable complaint is it asking me whether I want to apply for the GST credit. I say "Yes", and select person, then the next screen tells me that "Based on my family income, I don't qualify"...... :-[.. Really?? Couldn't you tell me that on the same screen that asked me the initial question?
So.. Generally, the program is good. But, whoever is programming the Provincial component of it REALLY needs to rethink the user interface experience and the "smartness" of the application.

Great prompts - easy to use
My second year using the product and it is quite user friendly. My return is fairly straightforward.
Allows you for uncertainty: you can enter an amount and software will prompt you later to review. Lots of additional info if you choose to access it.
My only "complaint" is with last year's return. For whatever reason, my return was not saved on my computer although Turbotax had all the infomation on file and automatically transferred to this year's return. Not sure what I did incorrectly. Didn't have that problem this year.
