turbo tax
Lots of glitches. Could not print my form through Turbo tax. Also saw warnings where there was none. Did get the job done though

Some areas are quite easy and make the process very simple--other places are more difficult for one who is not too computer literate!! Some more practical explanation is needed for we older folks.

Easier to use
Some additional description on someof the technical areas or child care areas would be helpful so that people know what qualifies and what does not would be good. Difference between child care camps and recreational functions is always grey

Only problem was with the mailing address. Address was transferred from 2011 return and hasn't changed. BUT, Turbo Tax would not let me proceed to Netfile without taking out the space in the postal code and removing the period from Dr.
Better instructions would save a lot of frustration.
If you knew there was a problem in transferring the address, red flag the problem and tell us how to correct it before we try to file.
A simple thing like this leaves a bad taste in ones mouth and doesn't look good on Turbo Tax !!!!

It was easy enough to follow the directions. There seemed to be a lot of extra clicking for things, but overall very easy to use. One problem I had was transferring student tuition credits to a parent. It was fine on the Federal schedule, but the Provincial schedule changed to a Spouse transfer (even though there is no spouse). It caused an audit last year and I didn't catch it again this year!

There was a mistake in last years taxes. When i carried over the data the mistake was also carried over. The only way to fix it was to start a new return and not carry over the data. The problem was with self-employment income.

good instructions
This program gives very good instructions. The only suggestion I have, is that when you go back to review something earlier in the steps, allow to jump forward back to where you were so you don't have to click through everything again to get to where you were.

You need to have the tax guide lines come up on the right for information. Then give client questions as examples. I found some of the comments where a little vague and had to search for gov't tax info. The prior packages were that way. Go back to it.

Good program, but poor help functions
I have been using this software for several years, and it is very easy and much faster to prepare taxes than paper and pencil. Be warned, though, that the help functions are limited. Mostly you get funneled into an "ask the community" FAQ page that is pretty much useless in asking anything more than very basic questions, and most of the answers have nothing to do with your issue. The "Ask Now" live help function doesn't work, or funnels you to the community FAQ page. So you're kind of on your own to figure out any issues, but with patience and a lot of searching, you can usually figure it out on your own. You still need an accountant or professional tax preparer to answer questions for anything more complicated than transferring information from T4's and other forms.

Used to use TT but for last few years have been buying the other guys. bought the other guys again this year. but it was, Uknow.... So also had to buy this year. Will continue to buy TT's until a good Mac version comes out then I can get rid of the PC too.

Another Tax Year Complete
I have been using the TurboTax or Quick Tax program for a few years. A person who is employed, has some investments and a RRSP account I believe this program works very well.
I like the Easy Steps method which takes you from one area to another. The key is to spend the time at the Intro level to make sure you put all the correct information in. You do have to read the heading carefully because sometimes the area you want is not listed, it took me a while to find where I had to put my T3 and T5 information. If you miss checking a box at this time it could cause you some problems later. I usually do myself and family taxes then go back and review to make sure I have everything covered.
For the basis taxes this program works very well.

First Time User
Being a first time user it took me almost as long as doing my taxes on paper and I had a glitch the first time around (not Turbo Tax' fault) and had to start over when I was almost done. I was used to seeing what each of my deductions was but using an adding machine and my paper forms was able to figure out what Turbo had done. They had made all claims for me that were possible - I just wasn't sure what they had done. Had no trouble uploading to Canada Revenue and will definitely use this program again.

Great, but some features missing

Good Choice
