keeps getting better
I've used this product for my last 5 returns, and with each year it gets easier to use. I would prefer to see the choice of children, as opposed to kids, in the "your family"section of this survey.

readability
I have found TurboTax easy to use and gets me to the correct amount owing. My problem is I find it hard to read. The print is small and light coloured. I would like to see it in a larger, darker black. There is a lot of space on each page to make the print larger and darker. It would make the use of the software a lot easier.

Compare multiple years?
I have used TurboTax / QuickTax for the past five years. It would be nice if you could compare multiple years, instead of just this year's return to last year's return. Also I noticed that when I go to print my return it still prints the blank forms even though I told it not to.

I've used this program for 5 years now and really like it however here are some additional suggestions:
- allow user to increase the font - it's very, very small
- improve the optimizers - I find them way too confusing to use and I don't understand the results

Good could be excellent
I have been using Turbo Tax or what it was before for many years and always been pleased with the results. My one pet peeve is that you can't use a back button to go to your previous screen but need to go to the T1 General to start all over again. Thanks for this product. It is a huge help.

Help could be improved by referring directly to line numbers in the tax forms so that you know where to enter information, or where to look to see that it has been entered as needed.

Turbo Tax Standard
I have used Turbo Tax for many years in the US and the Canadian product is newer for me. I feel the US version is easier to navigate through. I can say that the guide in the US Turbo Tax is far better for tax saving tips. They even have many video clips built into the software of tax advisors explaining key concepts. None of this was available in the Canadian product. If you do not already know where and how to save, then this software will not suggest or help you in anyway. An example of this for me is the Northern Living Allowance. I was never asked or guided to it..if I did not know to look for it I would have missed out on some good money. That's a big deal. I really did like the flag feature which helped me get back to sections for follow up. However, if I forgot to flag something I found it difficult to navigate back and find the sections. Employment expenses were inputted into the Income section rather than deductions. A better Turbo Tax product has existed in the US for many years now, so I'm disappointed that this Canadian version does not measure up. There's no need to reinvent the wheel.

Program needs a few fixes
I found it difficult to find the page to correct a mistake made for charitable donations. I had to go back a few times to find the page and take off the double entry. There should be an edit tab or the ability to change an entry on the review.
I had a huge amount of difficulty finding and trying to get the .tax file to attach to the CRA site. It was very upsetting. I had the same problem last year.

Navigation of program
I found more difficult to use the software this year. I had difficutlies opening the program to continue or to update information. The 2010 version was easier to navigate.

I got hung up a lot on trying to enter restricted fields as it wasn't apparent that you had to populate the information in the T slips first. I kept double clicking fields that took me to other restricted fields and it got me very frustrated until I finally caught on.

Constuctive Feedback
The medical expenses portion should be made to carry over to next the year with the choice of a 1 year optimized claim period. Entering all medical expenses to be then instructed to remove some in the case of too many expenses to reduce payable tax to zero is counterproductive. All carry forward expenses could be waiting for me next year instead of having to enter them yet again. Cheers

downloadable for the Mac Please
We would find Turbotax so much easier to use if there was a downloadable or CD version for the Mac which is also compatible with the latest MAC operating system. We would not use a "online only" version.

Can't Live Without It
I have been using Turbo Tax for well over 10 years now and wouldn't do my taxes any other way. Especially anyone who has a fairly basic return this is the only way to go and I don't know why anyone would pay someone to do their taxes when you can do it yourself so easily. Only thing this year beware of the tax audit review warnings at end as they are misleading. Call Turbo Tax and verify before you waste a lot of time on them.

Minimal glitches
Only glitches I remember:
1) I could not make the text size larger on the monitor screen;
2) I neither entered medical expenses nor said that I would or wanted to, but the Review said that I had entered medical expenses;
3) I don't know if the problem was me or the flags, but the flags sometimes seemed to not work.

A few improvements needed
CRA Netfile page-Do you have no income to report? Double negative and confusing as it lists interest income that you have reported.
Some of the smart tips require going back to previous pages and then you have to page through to get back to the smart tips page. Recommend page flag so that you return to the smart tips screen once finished checking for missing information.
Otherwise the program works very well

Dad can do it - you can too
This is about the 5th year we've used Quick Tax (well, it's called TurboTax now, but you get the idea).
It couldn't be easier: clear & concise instructions, help screens available for each and every tax line number, tips and other tricks, and a smart help feature that catches if you enter too many digits (ie. if you forget a decimal, it will ask "are you sure you earned xxx MILLION dollars?")
Being able to flag pages means it's easy to go back to particular flags at any point during your return. You can work on it over a span of days, and always find exactly where you were. VERY useful indeed.

Riddled with Adds, Overly Cumbersome
I just finished my taxes. How annoying! I paid money for this and had to deal with advertising throughout the process. Also, I found the interface to be very cumbersome. I had to enter something on the forms and each line I tried to use told me I had to double-click to enter it somewhere else. On the easy interview side there were questions within questions which made it hard to find things. I've used TurboTax and QuickTax for years and have worked for an Accounting Firm. 2011 marks the most annoying time I've had with tax software!

User friendly

Much Better than Pen and Paper
Main problem there was no summary of taxes deducted. There is a summary for income from various sources and this is helpful.
I had left out 1 major deduction and it took some time to find the problem. If there hjad been a summary I would have noticed earlier there was a deduction missing.
Anyway a whole lot better than pen and paper. I was able to try various combinations in short order and saved over $400.00, from had I just gone along with the first pass. Thank you.
